What a father should be, chapter 3

Tre put money in the vending machine, pressing buttons for a twinkie. Mike had gone to call Billie during the recess of the case, seeing how it had gone. Zach had asked Tre for something to eat, so he had gone out to get twinkies for all. He fumbled for the handle to Zach's room, stuffing twinkies in his mouth and managing to push open the door. Zach was on the floor, trying to pull himself up. Tre dropped his twinkies and ran quickly to him, kneeling down beside Zach. He turned him over to see he was crying from pain.

"Zach... Zach what are you doing?" Tre asked, trying to prop Zach up against the wall. Zach blushed and tried not to look at Tre.
"I need to go to the bathroom... I thought I could make it before you got back... " he said quietly, playing with a candy land piece on the floor. Tre looked sadly at Zach.
"Well... why didn't you push a button for a nurse? They'll help you?" he suggested, trying to get a better look at Zach. Zach turned to him and shook his head.
"No... no it feels bad when they do it, like they're annoyed with me." Zach explained, looking into Tre's eyes and seeing again the sweetness he'd seen before.
"Do you want me to carry you there? I mean, you can go by yourself right?" Tre asked, hoping the answer to be yes. Zach nodded quickly. Tre nodded back and gently picked Zach up off the floor. He opened the bathroom door and sat him down, then leaving him alone and sitting out in the empty room. After a while, Tre heard a flush and then sniffling.

"T-Tre?" he heard.
"Yeah? Zach are you alright in there?" he asked, walking to the bathroom door but not sure whether to open it.
"I can't walk... " Zach whispered. Tre opened the door and saw Zach on the floor again, sitting in his hospital gowns and fiddling with his hospital wristband. Tre walked over and carried him back to the bed. Zach smiled at Tre politely, and saw Tre was nervous.

"Thanks Tre. I thought you were going to make fun of me." Zach said, looking uncertainly at Tre's eyes. Tre looked hurt.
"A joke? Why would I make fun of that? I would never make fun of something you were embarrassed about Zach, especially something like that." Tre said softly, looking sadly at his lap. So that what Zach thought of him.
"I know you wouldn't. But I wanted you to say it yourself. You're really nice when you want to be." Zach said, holding Tre's hand. Tre beamed.

"I am?" he said, looking happy. Zach laughed. He looked like a puppy.
"Yes you are! And you're a lot of fun!" Zach smiled, as Tre laughed and crossed his eyes. Zach giggled. The nurse came into the room, and brought Zach his lunch.

"Now why would we need a sandwich when we have twinkies you eeeee-diot! LOOK! Twinkies cannot be broken!" Tre exclaimed, twisting the twinkie and throwing it at the wall. He picked up Zach's sandwich.
"This... THIS... look at it!" Tre said, shaking the sandwich. Zach laughed hardly, and Tre pulled apart the sandwich and poked the peanut butter.

"WHAT IS THIS???" he yelled, and threw the sandwich dramatically at the door, only to slap Mike in the face, who was entering at that point. Mike stood still for a minute or two, feeling the peanut butter soaking into his face.

"I'll come back later." the nurse said, walking out. Mike pulled the half of a sandwich of his face and threw it on the ground. He looked furious.

"TRE!!!" he yelled, running at Tre. Tre grabbed a twinkie.
"THE TWINKIE! YOU CANNOT GET PAST THE TWINKIE!" yelled Tre, shaking the twinkie at Mike.

Zach laughed and hoped Billie's day was going as well as his was..
