Without A Bass Player, chapter 1
While in a deep sleep, he was dreaming. Sweet Children was on a huge tour with Gilman legends, Operation Ivy. Everything was perfect, the crowd was screaming, and the lights were shining. It was just awesome. It was all great until there was a loud beeping noise.
Mike Pritchard woke startled, but still sleepy. He reached over to his run down nightstand and hit the "reset" button on his alarm clock.
"Damn." He said, barely audible to himself. Summer was over and he was starting a new year at school. Mike wasn't very fond of school, but he didn't think he could amount to anything without his education. His best friend of seven years, Billie Joe Armstrong, disagreed with him. Billie always told Mike that Sweet Children was going to get somewhere, someday. Sweet Children was a band, not just any band though, it was Mike's band.
Mike jumped out of bed to get ready for school. Downstairs he could hear Billie's mom singing, while most likely making breakfast. Ever since Mike was fifteen he had been living with the Armstrong's and even paying rent. His parents had moved away from the Bay area two years ago to escape earthquakes. Mike's mother knew how important Sweet Children and music was to him, so she let Mike stay with Billie. She knew they would look after him as their own child.
As Mike was getting a new shirt on, he heard a voice in the corner of the room.
"Turn that fucking light off Mike!" Billie said in an annoyed tone.
"Just get up dude, it's time for school." Mike replied as he walked over to Billie's bed.
"I already told you yesterday, there's no way I'm going back to that damn hellhole."
"Come on!" Mike jokingly yelled as he punched Billie in the arm. Billie slowly climbed out of bed.
"I hate you, Mike." Billie said with a smile.
When the boys finally made it downstairs, Mrs. Armstrong had already left for work, but left food for the two boys to eat. After eating, and grabbing random things at the very last possible moment, they headed outside to wait for the school bus.
The bus was late as usually, and as always, was very crowded. Mike ended up sitting next to some pretty red head who was wearing a Ramones T-shirt. Billie wasn't as lucky though. He ended up sitting next to some weirdo who thought they were a cat.
Billie was a little weirded out, but he still talked to the cat-man.
"Hi, I'm Billie." Billie said a little cautiously.
"Meow?" The cat man replied as he began to lick the back of his hand.
"Hey my name's Mike." Mike said to the attractive girl whom he was sitting next to, while holding out his hand.
"Hi, Mike, my name's Ginger Knowles, I'm new to this town." She said as she took Mike's hand and shook it.
Mike didn't know it then, but Ginger was going to make a huge impact on his future.
