Without A Bass Player, chapter 8
They walked up the stage, being lead by Kyle, and looked down at the crowd. The ones that did notice them walk onto the stage had very confused looks on their faces.
"Can I have your attention please?" Kyle screamed into the microphone. That got everyone's attention, especially since Kyle doesn't really need a microphone to make his voice very loud. "I'd like to introduce a new band to you all, yes I know that they're a little young, but who the fuck cares? This here is Sweet Children, you've might have seen them a few times around the club, so don't tear up the place if they suck, they're new." Kyle then jumped off the stage with great difficulty, since he was very overweight.
Billie strode over to the microphone and said. "Hey!" with a short wave, "I'm Billie Joe, that there on bass is Mike, and our drummer is Al. So without further ado, are you ready to rock?!" There was only a small applause as the crowd still had their faces set to 'confusion.' Mike searched the crowd for Ginger's bright red hair. When he found her face he smiled to himself and looked over at Billie to let him know he was ready.
They stated with the song that shared the name of their band, Sweet Children. As they played, Mike noticed a few of the confused looks change to enjoyment, which lessened how nervous he was. It was a good thing Mike didn't sing, he didn't think he would be able to move his mouth.
When the song was over, there was a much bigger roar of applause than earlier, which just really energized Billie. He was feeding off the crowd, and Mike knew it. Billie always loved being the center of attention, which used to bother Mike when they were younger, but he'd gotten over it by now. Billie was the youngest of six children, so Mike understood.
"Then name of this next song is Disappearing Boy. I know we've all felt this way before, and well, II really fucking hate it." Billie said to the crowd who were now moshing and dancing. Mike just couldn't get the fact that they were playing at Gilman Street through his head. He just kept thinking it was a dream, and he kept wondering when he was going to wake up, but he enjoyed every moment of it.
They continued to play for about and hour, when they reached their final song. "Hey everyone! You've all been great, and we hope to play for you guys again real soon! The name of this song is Green Day." Billie announced and the crowd went wild. Mike just smiled to himself and began playing.
Since the entire crowd knew what a 'green day' was, they all went crazy.
After the set Kyle jumped on the stage, again with great difficulty and screamed into the mic, "Thank you everyone for coming out tonight! Sweet Children! What did you think of them?" Kyle asked the crowd. "Would you like to hear them again?" The crowd then exploded with cheer.
When Mike stepped off the stage, Ginger ran into him with a hug. "You guys were amazing!" She told him and planted a giant kiss right square on the lips. It was like slow-motion for Mike, he couldn't have felt better, even on stage. He just looked in her in the eyes stunned. She just laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck. He placed his hands on her face, leaned in, and kissed her again.

"Yeah, I got home about an hour ago," Ginger replied into her green oval phone.
"That Gilman place is a hole in the wall, I swear to you Veronica, Seattle is the place to be." Ginger paced her room back in forth while holding the cradle to her phone in her hand. She was talking to her best friend, Veronica who lived back in Seattle.
"How was their band? They sounded like nails on a chalkboard, they fucking sucked, and yet, the crowd there thought they were 'amazing' ha!" Ginger said into the phone with a sarcastic tone.
"Mike? Oh he's a joke, and his friend Billie Joe is a total moron too. Mike gave me a tour of their town today, man what a crappy town they live in. I cant believe my psycho of a mother made me move here, when I heard California, I immediately thought of beaches and 'Valley Girl', but of course, we move to the shitty part of town." She looked into her vanity across the room and saw herself on the phone.
"What do you mean it could be worse? I doubt it. Anywho, back to Mike. Yeah he's a really good looking guy, but he's made some stupid decisions in his life, like being friends with ugh, Billie Joe and being in that stupid band. But you know what Veronica? I've got him right where I want him, I've got him right under my thumb."
