Can You Still Love Me If You Can't See Me Anymore?, chapter 1

18th July 1987, day 1.

Oh great another 'big family holiday,' I thoight to myself as we loaded our bags and tent. It wasn't even that big of a family holiday. It was just me, my mom, my dad and my brother sammy. Oh by the way my name's Laura and I'm 15. Well you don't need to know much about me. Anyway enough said, so yeah we were going on a camping trip in a place near the coast. My mom said it was really nice and that I would love it. Whatever, I thought to myself. The only thing I'm concerned about is not seeing any of my friends for two weeks, it would just be me, my annoying little midget of a brother and my mom and dad, hooray.

I sulked as I got in the car and put on my famous pout when my mom didn't let me take my beloved radio with me. I know, a radio, but it was about the only way I could listen to all my music as my mom and dad didn't really agree with me spending all my money on records or CDs, so it was goodbye to the Clash, the Ramones, the Stone Roses and Jimmi Hendrix for two weeks.

I was sitting in the car, I know it was the campsite was only about three hours away but even an hour on the car is oo long for me. All the way I had Sammy squeaking in my ear. "Let's play I spy!"
"No let's not."
"Pleeeease."
"Bugger off Sammy!"
"Mom Laura said a bad word!"
"Laura, I will not have that sort of language coming from you, especially in front of Sammy," my mum said in her usual 'tired of nagging' voice.
"Sorry," I grumbled and rolled my eyes. "At this rate I won't get past lunch," I said quietly to myself.

It was already 4 o'clock when we got to the campsite. "Isn't it beautiful?" my mom said in her artistic 'I'm inspired' voice.
"You kids are certainly lucky," my dad smiled.
"Yeah, we're going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere for two days we're sure lucky," I said sarcastically.
"Laura stop being so ungrateful," my dad said. "We've been planning this holiday for months."
"Yeah Laura," Sammy added. I gave him an evil eye, then sighed and crawled into my tent.

I took out a stash of sweets and candy that i had in my room for ages: black jacks, fruit salads the whole lot. "Darling, dinner!" I heard my mom say.
"Not hungry!" I shouted back. I then tried to quietly eat the huge bag of popcorn I bought a few days ago, then I lay on my duvet and thought to myself, this is only the first day and I'm already bored out of my skull.
