I've Been Living A Lie, chapter 4
*Still Billies POV*
I thought she didn't know, Mary never told me she knew. I was frozen to the spot, by the looks of it so was she until Tre waved his hand in front of her face. He looked round to see what she was staring at, and followed her line of gaze back to me. He smiled and jogged over to me.
"Heeeyyy Billie come meet Charlotte, Katie and Mark." He said attempting to drag me over but I stuck my ground. He turned and gave me a confused look. I pulled him away from the crowd to tell him. Tre and Mike were the only people who knew about Charlotte apart from Adie and our parents.
"Tre that's her!" I hissed so no one would hear. He looked at me as if I'd lost my mind.
"Who's her? What are you on about?" I sighed in flustration.
"Charlotte! That's my daughter!" Tre's eyes widened.
"I knew I recognized that necklace and she looks just like you. I can't believe I didn't realise. What you gonna do?" Tre rambled.
I looked up from nervously biting my nail, "I'm not sure but first I gotta ring Adie."
Tre nodded, "I'll go warn Mike."
"Thanks Tre." I said, then left the room pulling out my mobile as I wen. I flicked through my phonebook until I found her number. It rung for a few seconds until she answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey Adie it's Billie, I need to tell you something," I said swallowing hard.
"Um... Ok what?" She sounded nervous but curious so I decided to just say it.
"Charlotte's here... backstage, and she's got the locket.... I think she knows!" I said quickly.
I heard her gasp "What?.... but how.... shit!" She stumbled.
"I don't know but can you get down here?" I asked
"Yeah I'm on my way." She replied quickly and hung up. I sighed and ran my hands over my face. I remembered when Adrienne told me she was pregnant. We were still young and we weren't even married yet, but neither of us believed in abortion.
*Flashback*
I was on my way to Adie's like I usually did on a Saturday. I knocked on her door but instead of the smiling face I usually saw, I got a nervous one.
"What's wrong babe?" I asked her. She sniffed as if holding back tears.
"I need to tell you something." She whispered and pulled me inside. This can't be good. We sat down on her sofa and she turned to look at me. I felt a nervous ball form in my stomach
"I...I'm pregnant."
My jaw dropped "What?... but ....w..were too young!" I stuttered.
"I know but I can't abort it, it's not fair." She said, silent tears slipping from her eyes. I pulled her into a hug.
"There's always adoption..."
*End flashback*
And that's what we did and we never stopped regretting it. That's why we would visit Charlotte a lot, but when she was old enough to realise we had to stop. We left the locket though for Mary and Peter to give her on her 16th when we planned to tell her. That didn't explain how she had it now or how she knew. I never thought I'd see her until her 16th and now she was right next door. I decided to go back in the room before people got suspicious. I took a deep breath and walked in, I was almost immediately surrounded by fans for autographs. Usually this would have annoyed me slightly but now I was more than happy to be distracted. Soon the crowd had dispersed and I was busying myself by waiting for Adie.
She walked in the room and I noticed her also freeze at the sight of Lottie who had her back turned to us and was talking to some other fans. I looked back to Adie who had gone white. this wasn't a good sign. I rushed towards her but she had already fainted. Everyone turned when they heard the thud including Charlotte whos eyes widened at the sight before her. I knelt down next to Adie and tapped her cheek lightly. She started to stir I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see the familiar green eyes of Charlotte looking back she passed me a glass of water, I smiled in appreciation.
"Thanks," I said. She nodded slightly and gave a weak smile. I turned back to Adie and handed her the water, she graciously accepted, her eyes still on Charlotte who hadn't left my side. It felt strange knowing my daughter who I hadn't seen in 12 years was standing next to me, but it also felt nice like the part of my life that was missing is here. I was snapped back to reality when Adie stood up. I stood up too and the three of us ended up in a triangle looking at one another. Charlotte who was nervously biting her nails spoke up,
"Well.... this is awkward..."
