“Is your step-uncle always like that?� Amy asked, hugging her friend as she got out of Adie’s car “I’ll see y’ tomorrow probably yeah?�
Cody nodded “yeah, see y’ tomorrow� she waved as Amy went back to her house. She rested her head on Mike’s shoulder, “it is ok if I stay with you guys isn’t it?� she asked, looking at Billie Joe & Tre.
“Yeah, course!� Billie Joe turned round in his seat “just the problem that there’s only two beds, Tre’s on a camp bed & Adie’s sharing’ with me,�
Tre laughed, still high, “you’ll have t’ share with Mike� he winked, before hugging her, “don’t worry yeah, we’ll take care o’ ya�
Cody smiled as she closed her eyes, “Thanks guys, ‘n’ o’ course I won’t mind sharing’ with Mike�
½ hour later
“Hey, Cody, Wake up Hun, we’re here.� Tre gently shook her shoulders, “c’mon, Billie ‘n’ Mike have gone to sort our tip out�
“hmm….� Cody opened her eyes, jumping as she bumped noses with Tre, “Kay, thanks Darl.� she whispered, taking his hand as she jumped out of the car, resting on him as they walked through the punk house.
“what actually happened with Pete?� he asked, his eyes searching hers as he held her shoulder outside the door where Cody could hear Billie Joe & Adrienne laughing.
“umm…he called me a slag, hit me,� she looked up at him, her eye beginning to bruise, “I s’pose he just lost it, he wanted me outta the house for ages,� she responded as Tre hugged her again {If only Sarah could see him now} she thought.
“you’re one o’ my best mates, if y’ need me, I’m here yeah?� he whispered, kissing her cheek before opening the door, watching as Mike came over & held her. He turned away as he pulled his shirt over his head, lying on his bed.
“you guys gunna be ok?� Adrienne asked as she slid into bed next to Billie Joe.
“yeah, we’re good� Cody replied as she felt Mike wrap his arms around her stomach. “thanks for letting’ me stay here guys,�
“It’s no problem, you’d always be able to come to us,� Mike whispered as she turned to face him, closing her eyes as he kissed her.
Next morning
Jake walked down the stairs to find his step-dad sat at the table as his mother stood drinking coffee. “You bastard,� he muttered under is breath as he walked past him, purposefully knocking into the older man as he took his cereal into the living room.
“Jake, we eat at the table, not in there,� his mother called after him, “and where’s Cody, she’s not usually this late down, even on weekends,� fool she was she’d already been asleep when her drunk husband had hit Cody, “was it a good party last night then?�
“I’m not eatin’ in the same room as HIM!� Jake shouted “’n’ Cody’s not here, she left last night after that bastard hit her!� he walked back into the kitchen to through his bowl in the sink, glaring at the lodger, “I’m goin’ out!� he called, slamming the door behind him
At the punk house
Cody’s eyes flickered open, wondering where she was for a moment before the memories of the night before greeted her. Turning over she met Mikes eyes, “morning’ how y’ feelin’?� he asked, “the guys have gone to the kitchen, probably telling the others we got another new house mate,� he smiled, running his hand up her side.
“Ah, Mike that tickles!� she laughed as she shivered into him, “I’m ok, I guess last night was a good excuse to leave that hell hole,� she sat on the edge of the bed, feeling Mikes eyes on her.
“you wanna get your stuff later today?� as he rolled out of bed, going to kneel in front of her, “I think we’re meeting Jake at Christie road at bout 12.30�
“yeah, sooner the better I s’pose� she blinked back tears, determined to be strong as she stood up, grabbing her skirt & Mike’s shirt, watching as Mike walked into the bathroom. “I’ll go ‘n’ get some food, ok? See y’ down there�
As she walked down the corridor she could hear voices, she stopped as she recognised Billie Joe’s voice, “Yeah Tre & Cody had history, I think he still likes her,� he laughed, “Ow! Ok, ok! Tre quite hitting me! I admit it, Cody’s history ‘n’ you dig Amy now, I geddit!� she opened the door, smiling as they all became quiet & looked at her.
“Jeez, some shiner!� one of the punk girls said “y’ ok?�
“Wow, what a jerk! Want us to sort him for ya?� another guy looked over at her
“Nah, it’s ok,� she replied, looking around the kitchen, it was full of teenagers like herself & the guys, mostly dressed in worn clothes & with random body piercing. “Um..Tre, could I talk to ya?� as she sat next to him, taking his hand.
“Err…Sure,� he got up from the table, glaring at Billie Joe as he took Cody’s hand & led her out of the kitchen into the next room.
“so, what y’ wanna talk bout?� he asked, not looking at her face, “did you err.. Hear what Billie said just before y’ came in?� he asked, glancing up to watch her reaction.
“Um… yeah, but, in the past yeah? Peeps move on, I have Mike ‘n’ you dig Amy yeah?� she smiled at him, “like y’ said last night, we’re mates, there for each other whenever, ‘n’ I just wanted to saay thanks, or knowing me I never will. You’ve always been there for me, so, just so y’ know, I do appreciate you, even if I act like a grade A bitch sometimes,� she hugged him as he nodded, walking up the stairs back to his room.
“’n’ I appreciate you too� he looked back over his shoulder.

“Dood, sorry we’re late� Billie called out as they jumped out of Adie’s SUV. Cody ran over to hug her cousin, “Hey there! Y’ have a good night now you’re outta hell?� he smiled down at her, “wanna get your stuff later?�
“yeah, get outta there for good,� she smiled, “do y’ think he’ll sell Timber?� she linked with Mike & Jake as they walked together along the road. “Only, I’m supposed to be doin’ a riding camp with Sarah ‘n’ Amy in Summer, can’t do if got no horse,� she laughed.
Cody nodded “yeah, see y’ tomorrow� she waved as Amy went back to her house. She rested her head on Mike’s shoulder, “it is ok if I stay with you guys isn’t it?� she asked, looking at Billie Joe & Tre.
