Rodeo Rocker, chapter 11
They walked back towards Jake's house, linked together in a line as Cody started to sing "I'm breaking away, stay outta my way... " as Billie Joe joined her,
"Are they your new lyrics?" Mike asked, knowing that she always showed Billie Joe her lyrics before the rest of them.
She nodded, before joining Billie singing again as Tre started to put in drum beat noises.
"You're sure he's out?" Cody asked her cousin as they walked onto the street where their house was.
"Positive, he came out after me with his golf stuff, yelling at me how ungrateful I was, Smelly Git! Mom might be in though," he replied, reaching to open the door, "Jeops definitely in." as the dog started to bark on the other side of the door.
She gripped Mike's arm as he put it around her waist, with Tre putting his arm over her shoulder as she walked in the house, looking at the boxes at the bottom of the stairs, "looks like Pete decided he wanted your room for something'" Jake looked at the mess his cousin was staring at, "I'd packed all your stuff last night 'n' left it in your room, but, well, it's there now," he pointed at the cluster of boxes & posters as they all picked up something.
"I think a yard sale 'll be needed, coz, A) I'll be needin' money, 'n' B) no way will all this fit in our room," Cody laughed, blinking back tears as she walked out of the house, looking back.
Back at the park
The boxes were thrown into the back of Adie's car before they took their usual seats on the grass next to the road. As they sat around, chatting about a gig the guys had next weekend Mike looked over at a lone girl sat on the swings, "Hey, Jake, y' gotta fan," he whispered, nodding towards the girl who was staring at Jake.
"Oh My God Jake, it's Sam," Cody looked up, recognising the face although her hair was cut short & spiked with blue tips, "what's she doin here?" she asked as her cousins ex-girlfriend started to walk over to them.
"Hey Jake, can I err... join you guys?" she looked at the groups confused faces.
"Ah... sure," he looked up at her, "you err... look different, what's goin on?" The other guys looked up at her, trying to figure out what she wanted.
"Y' don't like punks, so why y' dressed like one? N' y' don't like us, so why y' here?" Billie Joe asked her {subtle as a brick} Cody thought as Tre hit his arm
"Err... I changed, thought y' might take me back, y'know, I forgive y' for ditchin me for these... " she broke off as she noticed Cody & Mike sat together looking cosy, or as cosy as you can look sitting on grass, "I see you two haven't changed, how y' feel bout that now Tre, your feelings changed?" she added, smirking.
"Not changed enough, you're still a bitch." Tre looked up at her, glancing at Mike & Cody.
"What was that for?" Cody asked, standing up next to Sam, glaring at her, "If y' only came back to start stirring again just clear off now!" she snapped, as Sam smirked again.
"Quite a temper haven't y'? Y' need to calm it a bit doll face, & possibly try to cover that eye, y look a ... " she didn't finish her sentence as Cody's 'Temper' got the better of her & she slapped Sam across the face.
"Now y' can join the shiner club!" she smiled sarcastically at the older girl, tossing her hair over her shoulder, walking back to Mike & Tre.
Sam took a seat next to Jake, ignoring the glares she was getting from his friends, as Billie filled Adrienne in on what had happened.
"Do y' fancy catching a flick next Saturday?" she whispered as she leant in to hug him.
"No chance!" he pulled away from her, "Y' hurt my friends 'n' insult my cousin, 'n' besides, Green Day gotta gig next Saturday."
"Fine, your loss, I thought you'd like me, y' know I made an effort for y' but y still can't see what's good for y'!" she got up scowling, hurt at the rejection, "Oh, 'n' your band won't go anywhere!" she shouted over her shoulder
"Yeah, I know what's bad for me though, YOU!" Jake shouted after her
"Ooops," Billie Joe laughed, looking after her as she stormed off, meeting another group across the path, "I'd say we were harsh, but... nah... "
"Tch, she's the one goin' nowhere!" Tre added, still scowling & looking a little hurt "We're on the way up 'n' outta here, 'n' you guys are comin' with us," as Cody leaned forward to hug him, he finally grinned, "Ahh, I knew y' still loved me," he laughed.
"Oh, all the time darlin', as a mate! The best," she laughed
"Are they your new lyrics?" Mike asked, knowing that she always showed Billie Joe her lyrics before the rest of them.
