Rodeo Rocker, chapter 3
The next morning…
Sunlight danced around her room as she gazed around, still drugged up with painkillers. Her eyes drifted off the poster of the mustang herd to rest on the picture of Jake; herself; Mike; Billie Joe & Tre, she’d had her aunt blow it up at work so it looked like a real poster, it still seemed weird her cousin’s three best friends were in a band & making a name for themselves in the punk scene around their home town in Rodeo. It annoyed her that her friends couldn’t understand why they were her favourite band, why wouldn’t they be, she’d known them since she moved to California to live with her aunt Maddie & Jake from England when she was just three years old.
Hearing a knock on the door she slowly dragged herself out of bed. “Morning’ sleepy head,� Jake greeted her, trying not to laugh at his cousins bedraggled hair “such a pretty sight in a morning’.�
“Well I didn’t get as much beauty sleep as I’d hoped for!� she snapped sarcastically before biting her tongue, “sorry, blame the drugs, n the broken bones� she managed a slight smile
“Well, I thought I’d better tell ya that the guys are coming’ over in about a half hour, ya might want to get dressed.� Jake winked “or Mike won’t know what’s hit him,� he added cheekily.
“Is this catch up time? Now that Sam’s Finished with ya?� Cody asked as Jake nodded, laughing. She didn’t know anyone as possessive as her cousins ex-girlfriend, she gave him a really hard time about hanging with the guys, saying they were a bad influence ‘cause they just smoked dope all the time, “Gord, remember her face when I told her I was dating Mike?� she laughed “or when I told her we didn’t smoke dope all the time, that sometimes it was sniffing it?�
“yeah, she hit the roof, told me I should look out for ya more, as if you couldn’t look after yourself, I got soooo much earache cause o’ your cheek,� he replied over his shoulder as he left the room.
1 hour later
The sound of laughter greeted Cody as she walked down the steps, nearly tripping over Mike’s skateboard.
“Hey guys!� she called from the kitchen as she dropped toast onto a plate & went through to join them in the lounge. “So, what’s the joke? I could hear y’all from my room!�
“Oh, just something the chars outside were saying’ to Tre,� Billie Joe explained “They had quite a chant going’ till one of ‘them met Tre’s fist,� he laughed before starting up the chant as Mike joined in “Tre Cool, he only has one ball… He lost the other in a circus fall!�
Cody & Jake burst out laughing as Tre leapt on Billie Joe, making him fall off his chair “OW! Guys don’t make me laugh, OW!� she cried, holding her sides but still laughing as the two boys rolled around the floor.
“Tre, that was a bit forward, he’s got to girlfriend now, you got to contain yourself!� Mike called to Tre as he wrapped his arms around Cody’s waist, pulling her down onto his lap.
Jake looked at Mike you know, this calls for a pile on but it looks like your tied up.�
“Or he wants to be!� Billie Joe’s muffled voice came from under Tre.
“Haha, Funny guy for a midget!� Mike nudged his friends arm where he could see it moving, “that’s Tre you’re talking about, I’m more of a whip man myself� he joked as Cody raised a sarcastic eyebrow as if to say “in your dreams mate� before kissing him
