A Taste For Suicidal, chapter 6

"I can't believe you're sticking me in here." I mumbled as we walked up the steps of the home.

"It's better here than hell, am I correct?" he asked, holding the door open for me.

I ignored him and went inside. "I mean, how are you sure that this place will make me 'better'?" I demanded.

"I'm not sure, neither is your mother, but that's a risk we're willing to take." he responded. He kissed the top of my head and ruffled my hair. "I love you Joey. Take care."

Then he walked away. I let my suitcases drop to the floor. What an asshole...A petite women in white scrubs approached me with what migth've been an over-cheery smile on her face. She greeted me in a high pitched voice. It made me want to vomit.

"Hello there little fella! You must be Joey!" she squeaked.

I cringed. "Yeah, that's me." I replied.

"Well you're going to be extra super happy here!" she cheered.

"That's just dandy...But please, if I'm ever as happy as you, shoot me." I told her.

I picked up my things and walked farther forward. She followed and eventually stopped in front of me again. I rolled my eyes. She was going to get very annoying very fast.

"So where's the fire Mr. Grumpy Pants?" she asked in a baby voice.

"There is no fire. But I can start one, if you'd like." I said. She just gave me an odd look. "Yeah, that's what I thought."

"...Uh...Well, you must be Joey the pyro?"

"No. I'm afraid I am Joey the cutter."

"Ahh, another cutter. Right then. Come this way."

"Joey, this is Melodie. She just got here yesterday." the women introduced me to one of my room-mates. I waved.

"And this is Kindra, Bailey Renee's younger sister. Bailey is a patient who has been here for six years but her sister got here a little under a week ago...And here we have Keith. He showed up today."

"Hi everyone, I'm Joseph." I said. They grunted.

"Well...I guess I'll let you all get aquainted. Kindra, if you wouldn't mind...?"

The younger looking girl spoke. "No problem Stacey!" she exclaimed.

The women nodded and left the room with a real smile on her face. As soon as the door closed the girl named Kindra flipped her off and cussed her out. Then she grabbed my suitcases and threw them onto an empty bed.

"Unpack. Lunch is in ten minutes and then we have class." she told me.

I made my way to the bed and began to unpack. "...Class?" I asked.

"This is one of the biggest mental homes avaible, so it has a working school system. You go to school only with people like us and attend lessons strictly with them. You also eat lunch and spend spare time with them." she informed me.

I decided not to say anything else. She smiled and sat down in a chair, picking up a book and reading it. It was a mere five minutes later and I had unpacked everything the lady had allowed me to have. I took a look around the room.

Quite frankly, the bedroom was idiot proof. I swear to you that ever single corner, crack or potentionally sharp object was either padded down or sanded off. No lie. Otherwise the room was alright.

There wasn't really anything on the walls, but books had been scattered about. There were four whicker chairs paired along a wide window and a table between them, a desk was on the opposite wall with a chair behind it, occupied by a black haired boy who looked about six or seventeen. He was messing around on a computer.

I saw three other beds beside the one I was sitting with end tables between them, all covered with plain white blankets and the tables having traditional looking lamps perched on top of them. A beautiful girl was laying across one of the middle beds, looking at a flat screen TV on the opposite wall.

This wasn't the kind of room I was expecting for a bunch of mental patients, to be honest with you. I guess I was expecting the crazy padded walls and such, like you see in the movies. I felt stupid for thinking so narrowly.

"Mel, do you want to head down to the lunch hall with me?" Keith asked.

The pretty girl on the bed grinned. "I dunno. This TV show is pretty damn interesting." she laughed.

"Oh come on girl, I'll make it worth your while." he whispered. I watched him crawl in bed with her. "How about a little kiss kiss...?"

"I'm terribly sorry to inform you, Keith, but I have relationship problems." and with that she pushed him off the bed. Then she leaned over the side and looked at him. "But I would love to have lunch with you and the others. Joseph, Kindra, let's go eat."
