"Jovie Marie Ramone!" yelled Ramona Ramone, her mom.
"Yeah?!" yelled Jovie.
"Telephone!"
"Okay."
Jovie stumbled out of bed, rubbing her sleepy eyes. "What happened last night?"
She picked up the telephone. "Hello?"
"Howdy Jovs."
"Oh, hi Zooey," said Jovie, disappointedly.
"Hi Zooey," imitated Zooey. Zooey Claire was her best friend, since birth. So, naturally, she can always sense when something is wrong.
"Why are you so disappointed to talk to me? Are we still best friends?"
"Yeah Zo, course, I just thought that you were......."
"Billie Joe," finished Zooey. "I knew it! You know, you really should tell him how you feel, I mean, it's not as if he don't feel the same way about you."
"Yeah, Zo, I know that. I also know that there is a war goin on her in Berkel, and we are trying to protect him, Tre and Mike from it, and they don't even know what the hell is going on. Oh, and don't worry about it, I have already thought about telling him the truth about my real feelings, its just that, because I love him, I can't tell him, you know?"
Zooey sighed. "I know."
"Oh, and why don't you get over your completely visible feelings toward Tre and tell him what I told Billie Joe all those years ago, huh? You haven't thought about that, have you? Or how you would never live with yourself if something were to happen to him?"
"Talk to the hand, Jovie! You are not telling Em any of this!"
Jovie remembered Emily Erin, Zooey's big sister and a mentor to all of them. The reason she never told Emi to get away from Mike is because she was careful.
"Jovs, don't you even think for a second that she is more responsible, because she's not! She is obvious too you know."
Jovie rolled her eyes. "Talk to you at school.." and she hung up.
Monday was always hell at school, especially when you were outcasts. Jovie, Zooey, Emily, and their friend Adam, banded together to fight against the forces of evil.....at least until lunchtime.
Lunchtime was always when Billie Joe, Mike and Tre would show up, and try to bail the girls out of their miserable lives. Billie Joe slid up next to Jovie.
"Hey Jovie, how is your life so far?" he asked, smiling at her. God! He was so cute.
"Hell, how is yours?"
"The same. You comin to the show tonight?"
Sweet Children was having yet another show. He wanted her to be his lady love on this shoulder so he could show her off.
"Course, why would I not?"
"Will you go with me, you know, as a........"
Billie Joe tried desperately to think of a delicate way to put it.
"Escort?" she asked.
He smiled. "Yeah. Would you?"
She smiled and looked up into his beautiful green eyes. "Of course."
Knowing nothing about the urges she was going to have to go through.
"Yeah?!" yelled Jovie.
