"I'm so sorry, Jovie, I really am, honest!" said Billie Joe over and over again to her. She had heard it so much, it was getting old, but she knew that he meant well by it.
They (Tre, Mike, Emily, and Zooey, Billie Joe, and Jovie) were once again sitting together at lunch as if nothing had happened. Zooey was staring at her big sister, who was making out heavily, with Mike.
"You know," said Zooey, with a worried expression on her face, "the end of the world is still such a long way away and all."
Emily stopped and looked at her little sister, "And your point is?"
"Well, if you don't mind, you're makin me and Jovs uncomfortable, could you tone it down just a tad?"
Emily looked at Zooey and at Jovie and then at Mike and smiled, "No." And she continued. Zooey rolled her eyes.
Zooey looked at Tre, he was smiling at her, "Zooey, I have something really important to tell you."
Zooey was not paying attention to what he was saying though, she was to busy looking at Jovie and Billie Joe, who were really close to each other's faces, as if about to kiss or make out or something. It would be a first, but a shock, all in all.
"I really am sorry," said Billie, sincerely.
"I know Billie Joe, you have told me so many times, I believe you and all, but it was not at all your fault." said Jovie, looking into Billie Joe's eyes.
"I should have stood up for you and I know it. I feel really bad, and you were going to cry, so that makes it even harder than it already was and the thought of you hurt in any way hurts me, don't you know that?"
"Yes. Billie Joe, it really is okay, honest, I'll be fine."
He looked in her eyes. "Okay, I'll never bring it up again if you don't want me to."
She nodded at him. "Mike and Emily are practicing CPR!"
Zooey, who had heard every word, knew Jovie was changing the subject on purpose. She was so proud of her. "I told her to tone it down."
Billie Joe smiled. "Mike is so lucky, I keep tellin him that Emi is a babe, he just says 'I know."
Tre, who had something really important to say to Zooey, that could change their future together, shouted, "Zooey I told you I have something important to tell you and you are being a bitch."
Zooey shut up and and Emily and Mike stopped making out to hear and Billie Joe smiled, because he and Mike already knew, because Tre had already told them that morning on the way to school. Billie Joe was pleased.
"Zooey, I-"
Just as he was about to tell her, Kelly Posinger of the A group (the popular cliche) came up to them, for once, and interrupted them.
"Are you going to the prom."
Tre screamed. Zooey smiled. So did Emily, Jovie frowned.
"I'm going with Tommy Rogan." said Zooey.
Kelly Posinger's eyes widened. "The most popular boy in school?"
"The most popular boy in school."
Tre's mouth dropped open. "The most popular boy in school?!"
Emily smiled. "Patrick Ross!"
Kelly once again looked shocked. "The second most popular boy in school?Omigod! Joveie you must be going with Kevin Staggart! Omigod! I would just die if you were."
Jovie rolled her eyes, Billie Joe looked over curiously. "Actually, I'm going to Dave Grohl's anti-prom party. Get away from our table loser."
Kelly looked disgusted, "You know Jovie, aren't you the same girl voted most likely to die young? You claim to be a relative of Joey Ramone's but everyone know's you're a liar! And now this new rebellion? You are really pathetic and you feelings for Billie Joe over here is really overexposed too."
With her entire table's eyes on her, she smiled, "Weren't you voted most likeyl to get pregnant by a loser and dumped all by eighteen? Aren't you what, seventeen now?"
Kelly shifted uncomfortably. Jovie continued. "I'll bet Kevin Staggart is lookin really hot right about now huh?"
Kelly glared at her, "You-You-"
"Come on Kell, your feelings for Kevin are becoming overexposed. Why don't you just give it a rest already?"
Kelly looked at Jovie and then at her table. They all started to laugh, except Jovie, who kept her smile on. Kelly's eyes filled up with tears and she ran from the table.
Zooey snorted, "Jovs that was awesome.....Tre, didn't you have somethin to tell me?"
The whole table looked at them again. Tre sighed. "Nothing. Nothing at all."
