A Hat Like That, chapter 1

I looked out at the ocean, a slight southerly breeze was blowing in wich made it easier to control the yacht. I sat back and waited for the wind to take me somewhere. I thought that I might just keep going and never go back, leave my damned life behind and just sail around the world, that was my dream. But I couldn't, there was no way I could go that far bymyself, I have no supplies and I'm too weak to stand it if something happened. But the thought of sailing around islands, all alone not a worry in the world, excited me. One day I will go.

The wind shifted, I fastend the ropes and sailed back to shore. Not much was waiting there, except my best friend, Bix. Bix ran up to me and licked my leg. I gave him a pat on the head. "Sorry buddy, but you're just not ready to sail, maybe next time." Bix barked and then jumped into the passenger seat of my 4-wheeled drive.

The next day at school, everyone was talking about the Year 12 ball. I had carefully been planning my dress, I made it myself. I just had no one to go with, wich made going pointless. Everyone was talking about their dates and I just nodded as if I knew what was going on. Poor George had no one to go with either, he was so sweet though. He hates the jocks guts and I've always thought of him as a friend. So I thought why not? It'll be fun. I asked him, he said yes. I knew he would, he wouldn't reject his own friend. We both had no one to go with and he thought it was a great idea.My dress will be put to use afterall.

I went home and put some Green Day on, thinking about my sailing trip. I could take Bix with me and sail p the west coast then over to Thailand. In my gap year, instead of going straight to Uni, I'll go. Start off in the summer and follow it over to California. This way I'll get Summer all year round. The daunting thought of sailing the pacific scared me, but it was a challenge. I don't know what'll do then, I could sail up to Canada and around there, but the whole experiance is not knowing where you're gonna be taken. It's the wind that will decide.
