Misery, chapter 4
Gina's dreams of green haired 23 year olds were shattered at approximately 10:30 a.m. She heard Jason stumbling around in the hall to answer the door that had received four sharp knocks. "Why the fuck do you have to come around at such an ungodly hour?" She heard Jason say with a hint of anger in his voice.
"Dude! It's ten!" Tre's voice sounded. Gina sat up at the sound of his voice. 'Time to tour New York' She thought to herself.
"Exactly." Jason mumbled. Gina heard him close the front door and shot out of the bed in the loaned room. She greeted the two men, self consciously aware that she was in the exact same clothes she had been in yesterday.
"Hey!" said Tre. "Ready to tour The Big Apple?" He asked, placing his hands on his hips. She blushed.
"I don't have any clothes." Jason sniggered at her remark.
"Shit, Gina, I have a whole bed room full of girls clothes." She cocked her eyebrows at him and Tre grinned like mad. "That a couple of my ex's left behind you twats!" He said irritably. Grabbing Gina's wrist, he led her down the hall to another bedroom. Piles of neatly folded shirts, jeans, skirts, and (to her amusement) thongs, lay scattered throughout the room. "Help yourself. As far as I'm concerned, it all belongs to you now." he said. She mumbled a thank you and the two guys left her to root through the endless piles of clothes.
She tossed a scandalous pair of bright pink panties aside nonchalantly and found a navy blue spaghetti strap that complimented her eye color. She placed this aside to wear and continued digging through piles of clothes. She threw a pair of khaki capris away disgustedly and came upon a pair of blue jeans with the knees torn out in her size. Perfect! She set those aside with the top and crossed the room to the closet. As she had hoped, it was filled with hoodies. She flitted through the pink ones to the black ones in the back. She grinned as she found a black one with a skull on the back of it and a small skull and crossbones design embossed on the upper left side.
Satisfied with her selection, she stripped off the old clothes and contemplated taking a pair of underwear from one of the piles. She delicately lifted a black and royal blue thong off the ground. 'I hope he's washed these!' she thought to herself and exchanged it with her old one. Five minutes later, she zipped the bottom part of the skull hoodie and looked around the room. The dresser caught her eye and she went over to it. She searched through all the drawers in hope of finding cosmetics which, mercifully, she happened upon in the second to last drawer.
She did her long black hair up in a messy bun and laced her eyes in heavy black eyeliner. On top of this, she dabbed some grey eye shadow and a hefty amount of mascara to finish it off. Neglecting all the lip gloss, she checked herself out in a dusty mirror, and satisfied, went to join Tre and Jason.
*TRE AND JASON*
Tre jiggled his foot impatiently, biting unconsciously on his thumb nail. Jason watched placidly and smirked at Tre's nervous actions. "Well I'd ask you if you wanted some breakfast, but it seems your thumb is pacifying you quite nicely." He said cheekily.
"Hhmm?" asked Tre.
"Earth to Frank Wright! Come back from Lala Land!" Jason said, cupping his mouth to amplify his voice slightly. Tre punched at him playfully and grabbed up a remote from on the ground.
"Come on, let's play. I'm in the mood to kick someone's" Said Tre, turning on the Nintendo 64 at the base of an ancient TV.
"Gonna be kicking your's then?" asked Jason, grabbing the other remote.
"Is that a challenge White?"
"Indeed yes Wright. So get your head out yo ass and play me already."
"You are so dead!"
*FIVE MINUTES LATER*
Tre tossed the remote away moodily while Jason sat, looking quite proud of himself. "Umm what's that Tre? Did I? I think I just did! Who kicked whose ass? That's right! I kicked your ass! Ha."
"Blow me Jason!" said Tre, crossing his arms and pouting.
"If your quite done. I'm ready to take the grand tour of the city." Said a voice from the corner. Tre whipped around to see Gina standing in the door frame. She looked amazing. Her hair was up and the darkness she had around her eyes illuminated them. She smiled almost nervously and Tre got up.
"GINA*
She stepped around the corner and cleared her throat but neither of the two of them heard her. "Umm what's that Tre? Did I? I think I just did! Who kicked whose ass? That's right! I kicked your ass! Ha."
"Blow me Jason!"
"If your quite done. I'm ready to take the grand tour of the city." she hear herself say. Tre turned at the sound of her voice and his eyes widened a little. His gaze made her uncomfortable and she smiled awkwardly. He got up and brushed the palms of his hands on his jeans.
"Yeah, sure Uhh Jas, I guess we'll see you later. Maybe we'll get together for dinner; me, you, Gina. Lisea too I guess." He said as an afterthought. Jason nodded and Gina waved good-bye to him.
"Thanks for the clothes and for letting me crash here!" she said. He nodded and resumed playing the game by himself.
Tre jumped down the stairs like a little kid. "I am going to show you NY like you have never fucking seen it!" He said gleefully. "Starting with one of my all time favorite bars for breakfast. They have this killer sticky bun, that if you ask for icing with it, makes a fucking killer breakfast. That and a nice soda or coffee or whatever the hell you want to drink. It's great!" Gina laughed at his enthusiasm and let him lead her down the street.
Countless cars honked at them angrily as they hopped on and off the road. "BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS FUCKERS!" Tre yelled as he flipped them the bird. Gina laughed the entire time until Tre showed her into a shabby little pub called The Safe Haven. It was dim inside but Tre led her to the bar and sat next to her.
"Hello again their Franky Jr!" Said a toothless bartender.
"Hey Teddy." replied Tre lightly. "Gina this is Ted Masters, an old friend of my dad's. Teddy, this is Gina McEwen. Friend of mine.' Ted extended an arm and grasped Gina's hand in his withered one.
"Nice to meet you sweety." He said and she nodded. "What can I get you kids?" He asked.
"Let me order." Tre whispered to her. "Two orders of your sticky buns with icing and two hot chocolates please." He said to Teddy.
"Sure thing Frank." Said Ted, disappearing.
*30 MINUTES LATER*
Tre sighed contently, pushing away his plate and gulping down the rest of his cocoa. "Damn good Ted, what do I owe you?" Ted shook his wised head.
"Nothing t'all Frank. It's on the house." Tre smiled at him.
"You sure man?" Ted nodded and Tre handed him a ten dollar bill. "That's for you man. Buy yourself a beer or something tonight." Ted thanked him and walked away to clean counter. Tre led a rather full Gina back outside. "Now that breakfast is out of the way. How bout New York?"
*FIVE HOURS LATER*
Gina had spent the most surreal day with Tre doing everything imaginable, from games at the boardwalk to strolling an outdoor flea market. Now they both laughed as he led her down a beach. "Tre! Where are we going?" She asked laughing.
"I want to show you my favorite place!" He said simply. Down the beach further, he showed her under one of the piers. "This is it. It's a fantastical view of the harbor, and the bay you know? I love just sitting here for hours. Maybe watching the sunset or dipping my feet in the water." He plopped down and dragged her with him.
"Shouldn't we be meeting Jason and Lisea for dinner soon?" She asked as he pulled her closer to him. She felt butterflies squirm in her stomach as he pulled her closer.
"We still have a couple minutes to be out here." He whispered. "I had such an awesome day with you Gina! I never felt this way with another person, not even Lis. I feel so carefree and happy, you know?" he said.
"I had a great time too, Tre! I've haven't had this much fun in a long time." She said. She looked up to him as he was looking down at her. She felt him getting closer, watching his blue eyes dance with the reflection of light off the water and felt hypnotized. She felt herself deliriously slipping towards the edge and then his lips crashed on hers like the waves on the sand, sending her over.
