Getting Away With Murder, chapter 1

(Backstage after an interview)

"Billie, what the heck is going on?!"

"Now Tre, chill..."

"No Mike! Don't tell me to-"

"Hey! Don't talk to Mike that way!" Billie yelled with a piercing stare.

"Look who's talking!"

"What is the big deal?!"

"Wha-Wha-What's the big deal?! What you said in that interview was a big deal!"

*silence*

"Yah, that's right...just tell the whole world!"

"I thought...I thought you had already told everyone..."

"You thought wrong!"

"Tre, I'm sorry...I didn't know...."

"Sorry isn't gonna fix what you did! I'm going to bed."

(At the hotel)

"Ugh, I could just kill him!"

"Tre, it was an accident, and you were gonna tell the media sooner or later."

"But Mike...I just can't deal with this right now!"
Mike got up and stared out the window at the hotel across from theirs.

"Tre, Billie's intentions weren't to hurt you. He's really sorry..."
Tre turned to the window, too....

"MIKE! LOOK OUT!"

***
"Good evening, this is Ken Davis with a breaking news update. The popular band, Green Day, has lost one of its most memorable members. Tre Cool was murdered from his hotel room last night. The killer is unknown, but investigators are searching for evidence of the murder. We will alert you as more information is sent, this is Ken Davis from Channel 5 News."
***

(At the crime scene)

"Aye chief, there's no sign of evidence, but me and the gang are gonna keep searching. We've only been here an hour or so."

"Chris, you and your group put in a good hour of investigation. Why don't you guys head home?"

"But sir, we've just-"

"My crew can take it from here."

"Chief Hinson, I think we're on a roll...I can't stop now-"

"I said why don't you HEAD HOME?"

"Ohh...well...alright...ummm..thank you, sir."

"Don't mention it."
***

"Tre Cool had a great life..." the priest said during the rainy funeral.

"I can't do this," Billie whispered, and walked away. Adrienne ran after him.

"Billieee!! Wait!" Adrienne yelled, then panted,

"Baby, come here..."

Adrienne placed her arm around her husband with comfort.

"Adrienne, I appreciate you being here with me, but...I need to be alone for a while."

"Billie, just let it out...I know you weren't able to say good bye before the murder, but stay here and have a proper goodbye..."

"Adrienne, just leave me alone."

"Billie-"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Billie yelled escaping from Adrienne's grasp. He walked down the cemetary path toward the car, leaving Adrienne standing alone on the wet, stone walkway.
***

Billie sat with his head leaning against the steering wheel thinking about the events.

"Why....was it my fault that Tre died? Was it what I said in the interview? I didn't think he would take it THAT hard...."

*tap tap* on the window.

Billie jumped and saw a man standing outside his car. Billie slowly rolled down the window.

"MIKE?!"

"Unlock the door!" Mike demanded, then looked around frantically. Billie unlocked the door, and Mike quickly sat in the passenger seat, slamming the door.

"What the-"

"Billie...I need to know something."

"Mike, what is going on?? You look pale."

"Now, don't take this the wrong way, but I need to know the truth..."

"Mike?" Billie stared at him with fear.

"Did you kill Tre?"

"WHAT?!"

"Billie, you don't have to hide it. I just need to know..."

"MIKE! Are you accusing me of-"

"No, I'm not. It's the police."

Billie stared down from Mike's gaze, and Mike kept his eyes on Billie.

"The..the police?" Billie said stuttering.

"I saw a few police cars from the entrance to the cemetary parking lot. I saw few policemen standing near the funeral, and as I walking to find you, they were talking about how they needed to question you for the murder."

"Mike, we gotta get outta here."
