His Little Drummer Girl, chapter 15

I could see Josh Street as I entered the park. From a distance he did really look like Billie Joe, just loads taller and his hair was dark brown instead of black. Of course he didn't wear eyeliner or the same sort of clothes Billie Joe wore but if I squinted a bit and didn't listen to his cockney accent I could pretend it was Billie Joe. Why was I being like this. Nobody was like Billie Joe..

We went over to the swing area where some of the older gang were on swings. There were other kids from our class nearby.

"Hey Franky," said Zoe a very pretty girly girl. "How did the weekend go?"

"It was absolutely wonderful wasn't it Charlie." I said to him. "Want to see our pictures?" Before Charlie could answer I grabbed them out of his hands and rushed over to Zoe to show her.

I was speaking quite loudly almost on purpose so that the older ones could hear. "... And this is me and Billie Joe Armstrong when we played pool. I beat him, twice. That's his wife Adrienne, she's really nice and Mike Dirnt. He gave me loads of bear hugs. He's taller than you would imagine and this is when we were at the gig."

The affect worked and before long Melissa Thornton was coming over closely followed by Josh Street.

"Hi there." Said Melissa. "Lets see then?" she said grabbing a handful of photos. "MMMMM looks like you had a great time. I'm not keen on Green Day myself" she said. "I like Eminem better. You like Eminem too don't you Josh?" she said fluttering her eyes at him but he wasn't looking.

"He's OK" said Josh. "Green Day are pretty cool. Can I have a look at the pictures kid?" He said to me. At least he asked.

I showed him and he was quite impressed.

"I've never been to a concert before, not like that anyway" said Josh. "Were you up the front?"

"Yep and I got to play with them on stage".

"Yeah, like" said Melissa sticking her nose up

"Its true. Here is the picture to prove it". I said showing her the picture of myself and Tre at Milton Keynes. I was on the drums and Tre next to me 'showing' me what to do.

"Yeah, ok. He's the ugly one though isn't he" she said giving the picture back and clearly not really interested at all.
"He's not ugly. How dare you. You're ugly"
"Hold on girls" said Josh. "Calm down"
"What was the most exciting part of the weekend then?" said Josh
"Well" I said, thinking about it. "Just the whole thing. Meeting them, watching them from the stage, chatting to them, being in the mosh pit."
"Whats the mosh pit?" said Melissa. "Sounds like it stinks".

"It's the part at the front of the stage where a bit is sectioned off. If you're lucky enough to get in there you get really good view and can nearly touch them."
"Wow" Melissa said sarcastically.
"It was a little scary" said Charlie
"Yeah someone spiked our drinks with alcohol and gave us an e-tablet" I said trying to impress Josh.
"Franky! No-one was meant to know that" said Charlie really getting annoyed with me.
"Really?" said Josh sounding a bit more interested. "Did it affect you any?"
"Not really. Just felt a little high. Felt a bit like I could fly and do anything I wanted".
"Hey do you two fancy coming to a party on Saturday. A friend of mines having a party. Anyone can come" said Josh
"Why not?" said Franky
"Not sure" said Charlie
"Oh come on Charlie" I said. "Lets go, I'm sure it'll be fine as long as we're back before midnight. We'll tell our mums that its Zoe's party. They won't know and my mum likes Zoe."
Charlie was he'sitant but I didn't care. I really wanted to go to this party with Josh Street. He seemed more and more like Billie Joe the more I spoke to him. They had the same colour eyes.
"It's a date then" said Josh. Meet in the park tomorrow and I'll give you the arrangements.
"Fine" I said. A date I thought. Melissa Thornton looked well put out.

Back home Mum told me that Tre had called. Can I call him Mum? I asked. Pleeeeease?

Well Tre did say you could but please don't pester him. Don't keep on calling him, especially if it's his mobile phone. It might not always appropriate and remember to think about the time difference. I think they are about 8 hours behind us."

"Its fine mum. May be I'll just send him a text message instead then he can pick it up when he can."

"OK then, but don't be too long as dinner as almost ready."

Sammy's POV
"Hi Jen" I said sitting down in an armchair with the phone at my ear "thought I'd let you know how the weekend went"
"And" said my sister
"Awesome. There are no other words to describe it. We just had a fantastic time. The guys haven't changed one bit and they made us really welcome. Adrienne is a fantastic person too."
"And?"
"And what"
"And what about Tre?"
I sighed. "Tre asked me to go to America with him. Francesca and me."
"And?"
"And I said no."
"WHAT?"
"Jen listen its hard to explain. I'm not ready.."
She interrupted me "what do you mean you are not READY? You've been more than ready for the last 13 ½ years. Are you insane?"
"I knew you wouldn't understand"
"I don't."
"Oh Jen don't be like this"
"I'm sorry Sammi but after all those years of moping after him you turn him down? What's to understand?"
I changed the subject.
"Anyway, you are one to talk, I heard about you and Mike"
She went quiet for a few seconds
"How is Mike?"
"Mike'sstill a lovely guy, they all are"
"Does he still give those bear hugs?"
"He does, but it sounds like he gave you more than a bear hug?"
"He told you?"
"Yeah. What got into you? You were dating Peter at the time. Poor Peter."
"Poor Peter. You try sleeping with him."
"Jen he's your husband"
"Yeah and things aren't going great for us at the moment. It's never really been right Jen"
"Yeah you were probably attracted to his money."
"No. He was good to me. Mike asked me to go away with him you know, all those years ago."
I was shocked.
"No! You're kidding me"
"No. I wish I had gone. But then I'm being selfish and I wouldn't have had my children. One can only dream"
"Oh Jen. I'm sorry. What are we like. Two sisters who fancy the pants off of two major rock stars." I laughed.
"Yeah but its more than that for you and Tre. You have Francesca. Did you tell him?"
"No. I told Adrienne."
"Its not Adrienne that needs to know" said Jen, it's Tre"
"I know"
"When are you going to tell him."
"Jen, I don't know. But it's going to have to be soon. I think I've made a decision about what I'm going to do."
"Yeah, and what's that?"
"I'm going to go to California and be with him"
"Good on you" said Jen "but you've got to pick the right moment to tell him."
"I know. He's coming over to Scotland in a couple of weeks and I'm going to try and arrange to meet up with him then. Its time... "
