Lonely Roads, chapter 4

It's not like he hadn't been paying attention. In fact, John had just finished having a double-shot of coffee (from the coffee house a couple miles back) and was as awake as he had ever been.

John had looked out of the window when the woman first jumped in front of the car. Well, she hadn't exactly jumped, it was more of a run.

His foot tried to slam down on the brake, but it slipped and fell onto the gas pedal instead.

There hadn't been a lot of blood when the woman connected with the car, just a dot or two.

Then John had ran outside of the car and kneeled beside the woman. She was talking, but not making much sense. "Mmmyyynnnn ssssgggggoooodddd," she had mumbled as John dragged her to the side of the road.

John kneeled beside the woman, who was looking at him, but at the same time, it seemed that she was also looking through him. John turned his head to look behind him, then looked back at the woman to find her outstretched, bloody hand right next to his cheek.

The last thing the woman ever did was caress John's cheek with her bloody hand, leaving her life's fluid on his face.

Then she died.

It was then that John had decided to make-up the story of how he ran out of gas and needed it, in case the police came and questioned anybody that had seen John.

Or the woman's body.
