Alot Can Happen In A Minute..., chapter 1
As Carlie sat on the curb outside the train station with her bag in the dark, she wondered how it had come to this. She was alone, cold and very tired. She had been stupid to runaway. She looked down at the ticket in her hands. This was her only hope and light at the end of the tunnel. She picked herself up off the curb and started to walk aimlessly down the streets of Sydney, trying to avoid dark alleys.
You see, Carlie had just run away from home, to see her favourite band and idols, Green Day, on their American Idiot tour. Why would this 17 year old run away from home to see some punk-rockers who would never even give her a second glance? Well I suppose it all started two years ago..
*Flashback to 2 Years Ago*
Carlie had just started year 10 with other things on her mind rather than school work - Green Day. So, as she started back at school, with Green Day songs constantly playing in her mind she realised just how different she was to her friends, and the other people around her. None of her friends liked Green Day, they were all into hip-hop kind of music but that didn't interest Carlie at all. She began to distance herself from her friends and spend more time alone. The next two years passed fast, Carlie continuously distancing herself, but still remaining in the top classes at school.
Carlie's best friend, Cooper, was awesome. He was 16 and lived in South Australia. She had met him on the internet and they had been friends for about 3 years. Cooper had a younger brother and sister that Carlie also talked to. Carlie knew she could talk to Cooper about anything, and vice versa. When Carlie was 17, she heard that Green Day were coming to Australia to end their world tour.
Carlie and Cooper had been planning for some time about going to see Green Day together. So, when tickets went on sale, Carlie went and bought 2: one for Cooper and herself. Carlie and Cooper had never met in real life before and Carlie knew she was taking a gamble organising this. But, Cooper had told Carlie recently that he was being abused at home and Carlie suggested that he come to New South Wales for a while. Cooper said that he would come to the concert then stay a while but would eventually have to go back home, much to his dismay.
"Where have you been?" asked her mother when she got home from buying the tickets.
"I went to buy a ticket to Green Day's concert.." said Carlie, lowering her eyes and preparing herself for the lecture on how she wasn't allowed to go.
"Well, you're not going!" said her mother, looking up from the magazine.
"Why not?!" said Carlie angrily.
"Because I need help around the house." said her mother simply.
"Mum! I can help you around the house the next day! Its only for a couple of hours!"
"No Carlie! You're not going and that's final!" shouted mum.
She picked up her magazine and started reading again, pretending Carlie wasn't there.
This was always the way it was with mum. She never wanted me to go out and have fun. So every time I wanted to go out, she made up lame excuse after lame excuse so I couldn't go. I stormed up to my room and slammed the door. I put on International Superhits! And skipped to Macy's Day Parade. As I sung the chorus, I got a brilliant idea- Run Away!
So I frantically grabbed my bag and emptied the contents, not bothering about mess at the moment. She chucked her most precious stuff in, like Green Day CD's and clothes. She decided only pack a little make up and she grabbed her hand bag just in case. She laughed at herself as she stopped to think about what she was actually doing. It was only a week before the Green Day concert, and she was running away. Would her parents be worried? She thought. Probably not.
As she stepped out of her room and into the hallway she heard her mother laughing into the phone. She could then make an easy escape without her mother noticing. She raced down the stairs and wrenched open the front door and stepping out, inhaling a breath of fresh air as she went. She walked to the bus station and then to the train station. Hitchin' a ride all the way to Sydney. The train ride to Sydney was direct so it wasn't a very long ride until Carlie was standing on the platform. A couple of old looking guys gave her a look that made her feel uncomfortable. As she pulled her bag out of the train station she realised that she didn't have anywhere to go, so she sat on the curb and started thinking..
*Out Of Flashback*
*Present Day*
As she aimlessly walked the streets she realised that had come to a dead end.
"Promise me no dead end streets and I'll guarantee we'll have the road"
Carlie pondered this line as she looked straight ahead at the wall. "Obviously this isn't the road then.." she thought. She looked left and found a house. She looked right and found an alleyway. She turned around and then realised that she would have to go down the alley. She took a deep breath and started down the dark alley. About half way, she thought she heard a noise ahead.
"Hello?" she said slowly but decided to keep on walking.
Suddenly, a man of about 30 jumped out from behind a bin and grabbed Carlie by the arms. She tried to scream but he stuffed a cloth with chloroform on it in her mouth. He stumbled closer to the road with her I his arms. She could feel herself losing her strength to the chemicals. The man knocked over a garbage bin which attracted the attention of some passers by, who saw what was happening and ran to help. Before they could reach Carlie, she passed out and fell to the concrete.
"Is she going to be ok?"
"Yeah. She just needs to rest."
"I hope you're right.."
"I'm always right! I'm Dr. Dirnt."
Carlie woke up to whispering coming from some guys by the bed she was laying on. Two of the men's backs were to her, but the one with his face towards her had black hair and frightening green eyes. He looked worried and concerned as he fidgeted with his shirt. The man that had talked last was tall and had brown hair. The man sitting next to him was a bit shorter and had reddish/brown hair.
When the man who had spoken first looked up and into her eyes, she nearly had a heart attack as she realised who she was sitting with. Billie Joe Armstrong. BIILIE JOE FUCKING ARMSTRONG. For those who don't know, lead singer for Green Day. He looked just as shocked to see Carlie awake as she did to see a celebrity sitting by her. The man with the reddish/brown hair turned around to see what Billie was looking at. Tre Cool stared blankly back at Carlie's wide blue eyes. Finally,. The tall man, obviously Mike Dirnt, also looked around at Carlie.
"Thank god you're awake!" said Tre as he ran to give her a hug. He practically jumped on top of her until Mike pulled him off to give Carlie his own hug. After he pulled away, Billie was next. When hugs were done it was time for introductions.
"Hey. I'm Billie, that's Tre and Mike. We are your rescuers!" said Billie.
"And also Green Day.." said Tre laughing.
"But, judging from this ticket we found you may already know that.." said Billie smiling.
Carlie turned a shade of pink as they all stared at her again. Suddenly, Tre jumped up out of his seat and started to back away with his arms raised infront of him.
"Tre..?" said Mike, giving him a questioning look.
"She might be a TEENIE!!!" yelled Tre. They all laughed at Tre, including Carlie.
"I'm not a teenie, just a fan!" said Carlie defensively after they had laughed. Tre breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down.
"So, are you feeling ok?" asked Billie.
"Uhhh, I think so. Just a few bruises and cuts here or there but I'm sure I'll live. If it wasn't for you guys who knows what would have happened to me." she said.
Tre puffed out his chest. "It was all my doing, of course!".
"Yeah right!" said Billie laughing.
"It was!"
"You were the scared one Tre. You didn't even want to walk into that alley, let alone save a girl." said Billie.
"A very pretty girl." added Mike, but only Carlie heard him.
"Who was the one that knocked out that jerk?!" said Tre.
"But Tre, who was the one that wanted some action from the unconscious girl last night?" said Billie, raising an eyebrow. Both Mike and Carlie were holding their sides in laughter.
"I did not!" pouted Tre.
"Guys! We have a minor in our midst, act civilized?" said Mike, breaking up the argument.
"Mike's right.. So what's your name?" asked Billie.
"Carlie."
"And why were you in an alley, by yourself?" asked Tre.
Carlie sighed and looked at her hands. "I ran away from home."
"Why? What happened?" asked Mike seriously.
"it's a long and boring story, one that I'm sure that rock stars wouldn't care about... " said Carlie.
"Well, we have the time. We'll order room service as you talk." said Mike.
Arlie started her long story. How she was a nerd, then a loner, then a social outcast. Her fathers abuse, her mothers bitchiness, the concert ticket, her friends, everything; up till last night. When she had finished there was silence, only the clink or clatter of cups and cutlery every so often.
"No wonder you ran away." said Billie, while Mike nodded.
Tre put down this plate and started bouncing around and jumping on the other beds, continuously screaming: "Can we keep her?!?!?!"
"What?" said Billie, turning to look at the drummer.
"Pleeeeeeeeease?" pleaded Tre with puppy dog eyes.
"Tre!" screamed Mike.
"What?" said Tre innocently.
"That's the best fucking idea you've had since you suggested that I shit off the balcony!" yelled Mike.
Billie sat on his chair with a look that gave a feeling of shock. Carlie looked back at him with the same look.
"Tre? I can't stay with you!" said Carlie.
"Why not?" pouted Tre.
"Because.. Just because!" she said.
"Well, I insist that you stay with us until you have some where to go, because by the sound of things you can't go home." said Mike.
"Mike's right." said Billie. The others all turned to Billie with smiles on their faces. Tre started jumping again.
"So ... will.. You?" said Tre after he was puffed out.
"I guess so.." Carlie said after a moment of thinking.
"Good! Its settled then. Now everybody, get dressed. We are going out." said Billie.
"My bag!" yelled Carlie as everybody started getting up.
"What bag?" asked Tre.
"My bag! I had it with me last night!" said Carlie.
"The only bag we found was your handbag.. Maybe we could go to lost and found?" suggested Mike.
Carlie held her head in her hands.
"Don't worry, you can borrow some of my stuff" said Billie.
He grabbed her by the hand and pulled her into his bedroom. He kicked open his suitcase and handed Carlie a "Ramones" t-shirt, black pants, and a pair of converses.
"The bathroom is just over there." He pointed to the right.
"Thanks Billie" Carlie said, giving him a smile.
"Anytime."
Carlie went into the bathroom and pulled her new clothes on. As she undressed and got dressed again, she noticed the bruises on her arms. They were sore to touch and had a blue/purple look to them. As she got dressed, she realised that the pants were a little long but she easily rolled them up. The top and shoes fitted well enough.
"Oh, here's a belt coz I'm assuming that the pants are a little big." he murmured from the other side of the door.
Carlie opened the door a crack and he passed her a studded belt.
"Thanks." She said as she treaded the belt through the loops and done the latch up. As she walked out of the bathroom she felt 3 pairs of eyes on her.
"You should wear Billie's clothes more often." said Tre slowly.
"Tre!" said both Mike and Billie in unison. Carlie just turned red.
"What? Can't I compliment?" Tre said, sounding offended.
"No! Because we all know that when you compliment you are hoping to get lucky!" said Billie laughing.
"Don't believe them Carlie!" Tre pouted as he put an arm around her shoulders.
"Enough! Lets go shopping already!" said Mike.
"Why are you so desperate to go?" asked Billie as he picked up the car keys and headed to the door with Carlie and Tre in tow.
"I need coffee!" said Mike as the others laughed.
After a 10 minute drive down the streets of Sydney they found a shopping duplex that looked appealing. They wandered around the shops, occasionally stopping to buy useless items.
"Ok, time to buy something worth while." said Billie, stopping the others.
"And what would that be?" asked Mike.
"Oh! I know! Handcuffs!" yelled Tre. A couple of older woman turned around and gave Tre a dirty look.
"No Tre.. Carlie needs clothes." said Billie, leading them all to a store up ahead.
They all entered the shop that sold a range of cool-looking clothes.
"Pick out whatever" said Billie looking around.
"I can only afford a couple of things.." said Carlie, feeling poor amongst the millionaires.
"I'm paying, so don't worry," said Billie.
"I wanna pay for her clothes!" said Tre, putting on a pretend sad face.
"I am!" yelled Billie like a 2 year old.
"Can I have a hug instead?" said Tre, turning to Carlie.
"Suuuure." she said as she hugged Tre. Over Carlie's shoulder to Billie, Tre was pulling faces evil then pleasure before they pulled away. Billie had a disgusted look on his face but turned away so no one could see.
"No let's find some clothes!" said Tre.
After half an hour of looking, trying on and deciding they had all gathered clothes for Carlie. They dumped them all on the counter and Billie swiped his card in the machine. Billie passed out bags for everyone to carry.
"Let's EAT!" whined Tre. Everyone agreed so after dropping their bags in the car they headed to McDonalds.
"Hey Carlie?" said Tre.
"Ya?"
"Can you Pleeeeeeeeease say 'G'day Mate?" said Tre.
"Why?"
"Because! You're an Aussie and I wanna hear it!" said Tre.
"No way!!" she said.
"Pleeease?" all three of them joined in with the pleading.
"Fine... G'day Mate!" she said unenthusiastically. But it was enough for them. Mike was holding his side in laughter, Tre was on the floor in tears and Billie had collapsed into a chair.
"Do I really sound weird?" asked Carlie.
"Uh-huh. Typical Aussie!" said Mike between laughs.
"Well, just so you know, most Australians don't say that!"
"They should... it's a classic!" said Billie.
"Carlie, say 'I love Tre Cool'!" said Tre.
Carlie just gave him the evils.
"You know very well I'm not going to say that!" Carlie said, crossing her arms.
"Oh please? If you don't I'll be forced to tickle you till you say it!" said Tre, returning the evil look.
"Tre, leave her alone. Lets order Billie!" said Mike.
They all walked to the counter and place orders the collected their food. As they ate they talked and laughed about the tour and plans for that evening.
"I think we should get drunk!" said Tre.
"I second that!" said Billie.
"Guys, what about Carlie?" said Mike.
"Hey! I'm 17! When you are 18 you can drink. I'm almost 18." Carlie protested.
"See? Don't worry, I'll make sure she doesn't drink that much. Anyway, she looked older than 17." said Tre.
"Yeah, relax Mike. A few drinks can't hurt!" said Billie.
But how wrong he was.
