You're A Blur In My Dead Past, chapter 12
Three weeks later, I woke up to three heavy 'thuds' landing on my bed, and on me.
"What the fuck?" I yelled, opening my eyes.
Mike, Tre and Billie all lay on top of me, smiling.
"Happy Birthday Mags!" they all shouted.
I grumbled and covered my head with my blankets. "It would be nice if I got to sleep in on my birthday"
"Too bad" Mike laughed, ripping the covers off my head.
"You can all go to hell" I mumbled, attempting to rescue my crushed legs from beneath their bodies.
"Ooh, someone's in a cranky mood" Tre mocked me.
I threw my pillow at his head and smiled. "Not Anymore"
"I need food" I said, leaving my room and wandering down to the kitchen. I laid a hand on the fridge and noticed a piece of paper stuck to it with a magnet. I picked it up
[b] Megan, James and I have left for Mexico. I left some money in the drawer and I stocked up the pantry. I promise we'll come back for you once we get settled.
Love You lots, xo Mom [b]
Like fuck she loved me lots. I crumpled up the paper and threw it across the kitchen.
"FUCK!" I yelled, fighting back tears.
This always happened, just as my life was starting to look up, something shit like this happens and it all goes down the drain. I guess on some level I was expecting this to happen, especially with my mom. This was the 4th guy she's run off with in the past, say, 2 years. She would just leave me a wad of money and escape half way across the world.
I don't know why she even bothered having kids if she was just going to abandon them. It pissed me off to no extent. She would always just turn up two weeks later and expect me to feel sorry for her because the guy left her. Not this time.
I picked the paper off the table and turned to the classified section. I scanned the apartment rentals to find one that was cheap, and close to school. My eyes stopped at one particular one, 200 a month, it was almost a five minute walk to school and it was even closer to Billie's house. Perfect.
I ran up to my room where the guys were still sitting on my bed, wrestling over a lollipop that they had found. I ran into my bathroom, changed and dug through my closet for a suitcase.
I started piling all my t-shirts, pants and the rest of my clothes into it. I found another little bag and stuffed all my makeup, hair brush, toothbrush into it and stuffed that into my suitcase. I remained oblivious to the guys the whole time.
'Crack! ' Billie sat on the ground, rubbing that back of his head which he had apparently hit on my chair.
"BITCH!" he yelled at Tre and jumped back on him.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed the lollipop out of Mike's hand, unwrapped it and popped it into my mouth. They all whined in unison.
"Aww, Mags"
I picked up my suitcase and left my room. They all chased after me, falling down the stairs one after the other. It was like watching an episode of the ' Three Stooges'. I laughed while I pulled open the drawer and pulled out the money my mom had left me. $300.
"Mags, where you going?" Mike asked me as he walked into the kitchen, rubbing his shoulder.
"Getting an apartment" I said, more calm than I felt at that moment.
"What? Why?"
"I can't stay at home anymore. I need stability in my life and all this shit with my mom isn't where I'm gonna get it. I found a cheap place near Billie's house."
"You can stay at my place. My mom would love to have you!"
"No, Mikey. I don't want to burden anyone."
He frowned and hugged me. "I'll come and see you everyday"

The four of us were walking along the side of the street on the way to my new apartment. I was holding Mike's hand and listening to Tre and Billie argue behind us.
"Fuck Tre! Stop pulling hair out of my head you fucker!"
I looked back quickly and saw Billie shove Tre, who tripped and fell onto the pavement. I turned back and helped him up.
"What's your damn problem BJ?" I asked him rudely.
I wiped Tre's arm and noticed the scratches that started to bleed.
Billie shrugged and started walking in front of us. I turned, shook my head and caught up with Mike.
"Its September next week Mags" he whispered in my ear.
"Oh, damn. I forgot."
I sighed and handed Mike my suitcase and ran up to Billie.
"Hey Billie. I'm sorry I snapped at you. I forgot what was next week.
He shrugged again and wiped something off his face, I guessed it was a tear.
"S'ok Mags. It's not your fault."
I smiled slightly and wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

I struggled to open the door to the apartment when we arrived. I pushed on it and finally gave up. I took a step back and kicked it in.
"Damn door" I mumbled.
The stench was like one giant wave when you walked in. I covered my nose and looked around. The walls were a blue color tinged with a little green and yellow. The wood floors were falling apart and a stain was in the middle of the floor. There was a beat up old couch on one wall and a chair on another. The kitchen had some shelves and although some cabinets were missing the doors, it didn't look half bad.
The bathroom was a dingy, dark place. There was no curtain on the shower and the sink was rusted for the most part. The bedroom was also blue, but the walls weren't tinged with any other color. The window looked down the street, but you couldn't see anything because it was so filthy. A mattress was leaning up against the wall and a blanket was thrown over it. Overall, the place could use a bit of fixing up, but it was livable.
"This place isn't sanitary Megan. Even I wouldn't live here" Tre spoke up, shuddering the tiniest bit.
"Honestly" Billie agreed.
"Oh shut up all of you. I like it. It just needs to be cleaned, a lot"
Mike rolled his eyes and went to inspect the rest of it.
I plopped down on the couch and saw a layer of dust fly off. I coughed, and sneezed and stood up.
"Jesus".
I made a few trips back and forth from the apartment and my house, bringing some random things from my room and stuff that was packed away in our basement that my mom never used. I also packed a bag full of cloths, rags, and scrub brushes and a crap-load of cleaning products. The guys all mysteriously had something else to do when I asked them if they could help me clean.
"Lousy no good-" I trailed off.
"I'll see you at my house later Mags, my mom wants to cook you a birthday dinner."
I smiled and watched him walk down the hall with the guys. I turned and focused my attention on the grime in my apartment.
Four hours later, I stood back in the bathroom and examined my work. The rust stains around the sink had vanished, the mold in the shower was gone and the floors sparkled. I had hung up an old sheet as a make-shift shower curtain until I got myself a real one.
Every room smelt like lemon by the time I was ready to leave for Mike's

Myla greeted me at the door before I even had a chance to knock. She hugged me and I attempted to walk into the house with her hanging off me.
"Myla, I'm gonna be here all night."
She giggled and ran off.
"Megan. Happy Birthday Dear!" Gwen greeted me. "Come, have a drink"
I sat down with her at the table and she poured me a glass of root beer.
"How has your big day been so far Hon?"
"It's been great. I moved out this morning into a tiny apartment a few blocks down"
Gwen choked on her drink and coughed.
"You moved out of your house?!"
"What the fuck?" I yelled, opening my eyes.
Mike, Tre and Billie all lay on top of me, smiling.
