You're A Blur In My Dead Past, chapter 15

I felt a hand on my cheek and I stirred.
"She's waking up!" I heard a distant voice say, it sounded female.
"Mags, are you ok?" another voice, this time male.
I opened my eyes and focused on the four people standing around me.
Bianca was hugging Tre, her hand clamped over her mouth. Mike was kneeling down next to me, on my left and holding my hand. I looked up into his light blue eyes that were clouded with sadness and tears. I tried to smile and sit up but I fell back down after I felt the stabbing pain in the side of my head. Billie grabbed me before I fell back onto the tile floor. He brushed a hair out of my face and smiled.
"What happened?" I mumbled.
Billie's eyes flashed up to Mike and I turned to him.
"I. I um, well, I was trying to hit Billie but you were in the way and I accidentally hit you instead. I'm so sorry Mags. I never meant to hurt you, it's the last thing I ever want to do" he babbled.
"Well, look what happened. You did hurt her, twice" Billie said rather angrily to Mike.
"Screw you Billie Joe" he replied.
"Guys, don't start again" I mumbled.
I reached my hand up to feel my wound and pulled it back to see a few spots of blood covering my palm.
"Come on Mags, Ill take you back to my place" Billie said, helping me stand up.
"No, Billie its ok, I'll take her" Mike said, grabbing my other hand.
"Mike, back off. You've done enough" Billie replied, pulling me towards him.
"GUYS!" I yelled, pulling myself away from both of their grips. "You two are best friends, stop arguing like 6-year-olds for Christ's Sake."
Mike'sgaze fell to the ground and Billie scratched his arm.
"I'll be fine, ill just go clean the cut and get a few aspirin" I mumbled, walking out of the room, Bianca following.

"You sure you're ok Mags?" she asked me while I was wiping the cut.
"Physically, I'm just sore. Emotionally, I'm fucked up"
"What are you gonna do about Mike. You can't just stand by and let this get worse".
"Bianca, he didn't do it on purpose. At least I don't think he did. Both times it wasn't his fault."
She sighed. "Still"
"Still nothing. I still love him." I grumbled.
The bell rang as I fixed my hair to cover the cut.
"Damn. We're late" I said, rushing out of the bathroom and to my locker.

"Ms Curtis, why are you so late?" my math teacher asked as I walked into class five minutes late.
"I was having female problems in the washroom sir" I lied, trying to hide a smile as I sat down next to Tre at the back of the class.
The teacher cleared his throat "Well, Uh, have a seat"

Tre nudged me when I sat down and opened my notebook.
"Way to lie Mags" he laughed.
"It's a gift"
"Frank and Megan. Stop talking or I'll keep you back after class" the teacher warned, glaring at us.
I turned to face the front and copied down the notes on the black board when a piece of paper flew onto my desk. I opened it and sighed.

'What are you going to do about Mike? '

I scribbled my response on it.
'Are you and Bianca against me or something? A little conspiracy to break us up? I'll tell you what I told her. It wasn't his fault that I got hit, and what happened on my birthday was an accident. Just leave me alone'

I threw it back to him and ignored his attempts to talk for the rest of class. I tried my best to ignore everyone else during school until the final bell rang and I made my way outside, my school bag slung over one shoulder.
"Mags! Hold up!" I heard Billie yell behind me.
I kept walking as he tried to catch up. "Why are you ignoring me?"
"I'm not-" I stopped and clutched my head and felt my bag slide off my shoulder and hit the pavement. My knees became wobbly and I fell forwards. I landed in Billie's arms and he sat me down on the sidewalk.
"Mags, are you ok? What was that?" He asked quickly.
I rubbed my head and tried to focus my blurry vision.
"I'm fine, just got a little dizzy. Help me up."
He stood and held out his hand, pulling me up. My knees were just as weak and I fell again.
"Alright, you need to lie down. Ill take you to my house, it's closer than yours."
I nodded, unable to speak. He slid my arm around his neck and supported me with his own arm around my waist. He picked up my bag and we started walking.

"I'm sorry about what happened between me and Mike" he said sullenly.
I was laying on his bed, an icepack on my head and a glass of water in my hand.
"It's ok. You'll get over it eventually and laugh about it years from now" I smiled.
He leant back in his chair clutching Blue. I closed my eyes and we sat in silence for a while.
"I'm dropping out of school"
I opened my eyes and looked at him suspiciously. "What? You're kidding, right?"
"No. I've been thinking about it for a while and I want to devote my life to music. School's just getting in the way"
"You can't just drop out like that" I snapped my fingers.
"I'm almost an adult, I can do whatever the hell I want to."
"Alright, if you're sure this is what you want. Have you told you're mom?"
"Uh, no. Not yet"
"Don't you think you should?"
"Eventually" he smiled. I giggled.
We heard the front door slam and keys drop onto the table.
"Billie Joe! I'm home, and I've got dinner" I heard his mom shout up the stairs.
"Hungry?" he asked as I followed him out of the room.
"I brought home some pizza" she said. "Oh, Megan, I didn't know you were here. Would you like some pizza?"
"I'd love some Ms A."
"Oh, Dear, just call me Ollie"
I smiled and grabbed a plate.

I nudged Billie during dinner and nodded my head towards his mom.
"Tell her" I mouthed when he looked up.
He frowned and I kicked him gently under the table.
"Fine!" he mouthed back, looking angry.
"Mom?"
"Yes dear?"
"I, I've decided to, uh, drop out of school"
She dropped her slice of pizza and gaped at him.
"You will do no such thing young man!" she practically yelled at him.
"But Mom! I'm almost 16!"
"That doesn't mean a thing. I work hard so you can afford to go to school and get a good education. I won't let you just throw that away!"
"But I want to devote my life to music! The band's getting really good! We've even got a show at Gilman on Friday, plus, there are going to be record execs there, we might get signed!"
Ollie frowned at her youngest son. "I'll tell you what. If you do get signed in, say, the next week. You can drop out, if not you're back at school. Deal?"
"Deal!" he beamed. "Thanks mom"
"The things I do for my children" she mumbled.

"You didn't tell me you had a gig on Friday! No one did. I'm always the last to know things." I complained.
"Mike wanted to keep it a secret. He wanted to surprise you."
"Oh" I smiled.
Billie cleared his throat and looked at me, green eyes sad.
"So, how's everything going with you and Mike anyways? Aside from the fact that he doesn't treat you well."
I punched his shoulder. "He does to treat me well BJ, these last two things were just, mishaps."
He shook his head and sighed again. "Whatever"
"Don't whatever me BJ. I love him and I plan to stay with him."
He looked up at me and placed a hand on my cheek.
"You deserve someone better"
