Chumps And Chumpettes, chapter 9
"Do you wanna go out someplace tonight, with the guys and me?" Billie Joe asked.
"It'll help you take your mind off things for a while."
"Yeah, that'd be nice, thanks. Where can we go?" I replied.
"Well-" Billie Joe started, but was interrupted by a shout.
"The door's fixed. I'm gonna go now."
"Cheers." Billie Joe shouted back.
"Well, there's this little 'all you can eat buffet' thingy, with themes from all over the world. You wanna try it?"
"Sounds great." I said, with a smile. "Wait," I said grabbing his arm, and Billie Joe looked at me questionably. "You're driving, not Tré, right?"
"For our safety, yes." He said with a laugh. He grabbed my hand and pulled me along. "Come on, let's go."
The restaurant was great, and the food was great, and the atmosphere was great. Everything was great. However, I kept thinking; 'What if Mark shows up? I can't stay hidden forever. '
"Amy? Come on, snap out of it. Don't worry, I checked. He's not in the restaurant." Billie Joe said, with a little laugh.
"Yeah, watch Tré get really pissed, that'll cheer you up, promise." Mike said as he passed another beer to Tré, who was making them disappear pretty quickly.
"Yesshh Amy, don't worry, you're sshhafe." Tré said, as he wobbled and nearly keeled over.
"Erm, guys. Me and Amy are gonna head back now. I think we're pretty tired as it is, without the added pressure of a drunk Tré." Billie said, laughing. "Make sure you get a cab home, alright?"
"Okie dokie, Billie Okie" Tré said, with a loud guffaw at his own 'joke'.
Billie Joe shook his head, and covered his face with his hands through pure shame.
On the way home, we talked about everything. And, although I was having a great time, there was just something niggling at the back of my mind; Mark. Everything Billie said, everything I saw would link back to Mark in some way or another. Even a bush at the side of the road; it reminded me of his home. That used to be my home.
Billie could sense that something was wrong, but he tried to make light of the situation, with jokes etc. Bless him.
We went inside, and said goodnight to each other. I went up to my guest room, and he to his own. But, I couldn't help it. I just could not sleep, so I went into his room, and luckily enough, he was still awake, staring at the ceiling.
"Billie, I stay in here? I can't get to sleep."
"Dunno what makes you think it'll be any easier in here." He mumbled, but he still shifted over, so there was space on the bed, and he pulled out one of the pillows from the stack beneath his head for me to use.
There was a silence for a while, while both of us were thinking about our own personal stuff.
Then Billie said: "Amy, I want you to know, that even though I've only known you for a couple of days, I like you. And, if you need someone to talk to, then I'm here."
I rolled over to look him in the eyes and gave him a soft, lingering kiss on the lips.
"What was that for?" He asked after a minute or two.
"For being there when I needed you and for saying the right thing at the right time. It's my way of saying thank you" I replied, looking deep into his eyes.
He smiled. "I guess I'll have to make you owe me another thank you then." He said with a grin. I returned his smile, and closed my sleepy eyelids.
"I guess so." I whispered in return.
