Living This Crazy Lie, chapter 2

My ancient car, a '69 Ford Mustang, red, of course, was parked at the end of my driveway. I hopped into the passenger's side, what with me being grounded and all. The CD player I had installed had a volume high of LOUD. I mean LOUD. And we had it up all the way. So we were about halfway to our destination, singing along to the Nimrod album.
"Woah! LOOK OUT! HOLY MOTHER--" I grabbed the wheel from Billie and jerked us out of the way of an out-of-control semi. 'Thank you, night vision.' I thought to myself. Our car started rolling as it reached the side of the road, and the impact as it finally stopped knocked us out cold.
I blearily opened one. Ok, good, now try the other. Phew, dang that was hard. I unbuckled my seatbelt and turned to look at Nate, who was waking.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm alright," she said, touching her hand to her head, bringing it back bloody. "Scratch that, I'm gonna be sick..." I laughed a tiny bit, and looked at Billie beside me. I was being crushed by my mangled car, but I paid no mind and unbuckled Billie, not knowing whether he was still alive. I checked his pulse, and was definitely there. I sighed in relief, worming my way out of the mess I was trapped in, reaching for Billie's door and grabbing my purse. I shoved Billie's door open and pushed his unconcious body out, scrambling out close after. I wiped blood gently off his cheek, kissing his nose softly. His eyes flickered and then he groaned.
"Billie oh thank God! I thought we had lost you!" I said, showering his bloodied face with kisses. I reached into his pocket to get his cell phone. I pulled it out and quickly dialed 911 to get an ambulance. We sat and waited for it to come for God knows how long. At last it finally came. They put Billie on a stretcher and then looked at me, and wondered whether they should put me on it instead. But I was up on my feet, helping Nate up off the ground, while Billie had been lying on the ground. We got into the back of the ambulance. I sat right next to Billie's head, dabbing at it with a damp cloth. He reached up to touch my face, bringing his hand back bloodier than Nate's from her face, or mine from Billie's face. I took his hand in mine, drenching my own hand in my blood as well as his. I gave the cloth to Nate to clean her face. I looked into Billie's deep green eyes, hiding his severely damaged soul. Suddenly images of a little boy sleeping in alleyways and wandering the streets at night in the rain. I saw an image of Billie grown up, meeting me in that dance. I saw him in the forest, looking at me, face inches from mine, and then turning away, unable to face his feelings. I saw the hurt, and the betrayal that life dealt him. I jerked back, giving a little yell, at the same time as Billie. I looked at him and knew he saw into my life too. We finally reached the hospital, and we were herded into a room to wait for a doctor to look at us.
