Amy's Adventure With Green Day, chapter 12

But there was one person we had forgotten about, and that very person came walking up to us and slapped Mason across the face.

I heard the noise of the slap and turned around. Green Day did the same thing, they still had their pants down but the smile quickly disappeared from their faces. I looked at Mason who was angrily glaring at our mother. A red handprint on his cheek.

Ellen started yelling at us, telling us how we never behave and what horrible kids we were. Then the last thing she said was:
" I never wanted you two, you were both accidents."

The people around us gasped. I didn't feel sad, instead I felt angry. I stepped forward, ready to hit her.

" Excuse me," Billie Joe said into the microphone " Sorry to interrupt, but what are you doing, yelling at my friends here?"

Ellen looked at him. He obviously hadn't heard what she said; otherwise he would have figured out that Ellen is our mother. Her look was filled with disgust.

" I happen to be their mother!" She yelled. " And you, YOU!" she breathed heavily. " You took them, you made them criminals, and you have no fucking pants on!"

Billie's face twisted, he was trying to look upset but it was easy to tell that he was trying not to laugh. Mike and Tre' did not seem to care about what Ellen would think, they were pissing themselves laughing. Laughing at the obviously drunk woman standing in the midst of their mosh pit yelling at the two people they just saved from being arrested.

This made Ellen even angrier, it was almost possible to see the steam come from her ears. She clenched her fists, a sign which meant that she was going to burst any minute... with other words, not a very good sign.

I took a step back, Ellen's eyes were starting to close, her head started wobbling and her legs went weak at the knees. It was actually quite a comical sight, it may not seem very nice to say that, but the same thing had happened so many times, that Mason and I were used to it. Ellen was going to fall asleep any minute. She had done it before, she was so drunk, that she just collapsed on the ground and fell asleep. The first time it had happened Mason and I had been worried, but now it was almost a daily occurrence. I smiled at the thought of someone falling asleep at a Green Day concert.

I noticed the crowd was dead quiet, every now and then there was a whisper, but then someone would say SHHH! And it would be quiet again. I realized how strange it must look. A woman, who not even two minutes ago looked like she was going to pop with anger, was now about to fall asleep, in the middle of a crowd consisting of thousands of people. And that crowd was here to see a punk rock show (which would usually be recognised as loud, crazy and filled with jumping and screaming).

I looked up at Billie; his head was slightly cocked to the right, one eyebrow raised and a curious, confused look on his face. Mike and Tre' both had the same look on their faces, they were red and their eyes were watering from laughing so much, every now and then one of them would giggle and then they would start laughing again. I laughed at them, they seemed like two young schoolgirls who had just gotten in shit for laughing but couldn't stop.

I heard a thump and turned around, the crowd roared with laughter. Ellen was lying on the grass, snoring. I started laughing. Mason was standing next to me looking at Ellen, laughing with a look on his face that said, how-the-hell-did-you-manage-to-fall asleep-in-a-Green-Day-concert? I heard Billie laugh into the microphone and turned around.

" Are we really that boring?" He asked the crowd.

Mike was leaning on his knees, Tre' was rolling on the ground, laughing so hard that tears were streaming down his face. Billie Joe raised his eyebrows, and turned his head slightly to the right so that he was looking at the crowd from the corners of his eyes. The look was saying "Well?" Billie waited for an answer. The crowd suddenly realised to what question he wanted an answer to.

" NO!!!" The crowd roared in unison, people started yelling and screaming. I looked at Ellen lying on the ground, her eyes slowly opened. She frowned and stood up.

" Oh, hello" Billie Joe said. " Look who's awake now."

I laughed at him and then turned to Ellen, she looked tired and angry at the same time. The crowd hushed again.

" YOU!" She yelled, "YOU!" she shut up, obviously trying to think of an insult, then she gave up, frustrated. "AARGH!" and turned around, ready to walk out, away from the concert. Then she remembered something and turned to Mason and I. The thing she said made me even happier than I already felt, could this day get any better? I was about to find out, it would get better, but before it could, it was going to get worse.
