A Journal Never Lies, chapter 14
She woke up, smelling a too familiar smell. She propped herself up on her elbow. She rubbed her head, feeling like she had a massive hangover. When she opened her eyes to get a better look at her surroundings, she noticed where she was: Gilman. She was confused. She could have sworn that she went home, with her brother. But she obviously didn't. She jumped up, looking for Rudy. If anyone could explain things to her, Rudy always did.
"Rudy! Rudy!" she yelled.
Rudy hustled towards her. "What, Alex? What's wrong?"
"What happened last night? Why am I still here and not home? Was Green Day even here last night? Am I losing it, Rudy? Am I?" She felt herself breathing heavily. She wasn't ready for this to happen. She was expecting to wake up in her bed, rays of light falling upon her pale face. She was expecting Frank to come in, telling her good morning. She was expecting to wake up to the smell of Mike's pancakes cooking; ready for her to eat. But, she didn't. She woke up to a gray-walled room. The only light here was from the small window near the bathroom door. There was no smell of Mike's pancakes; just the smells she came in here smelling. Nothing was making sense to her.
Rudy chuckled to himself, "You don't remember huh? Well, Green Day didn't play here last night. They haven't played here for about two years. You're still here 'cause you never left. You got wasted last night and passed out. I saw you and laid you on the couch. And no, Alex, you're not crazy; you just have a hangover."
She replayed Rudy's words in her head. Over and over. Everything she thought happened last night didn't. She really did think she was going crazy. It felt so real to her. "I'm... Gonna... Go now Rudy. Umm... See ya."
She heard Rudy say "See ya", but she didn't bother to stop walking. She opened the door of Gilman, remembering last night when she "walked out when she saw her brother". Of course, it wasn't real. She had so many thoughts going through her head. She wondered how long she actually has been on her own. She wondered maybe she's lost it, and never realized it. Then, Rudy's main words hit her, "They haven't played here for about two years. Did she hear right? It has been two years since Green Day has played at Gilman? She thought it was impossible. She remembered them playing about two weeks ago, not two years. Suddenly, a car's horn was the only thing she heard. The last thing she saw was a blue-haired stranger.
She woke up, looking around her. She saw white walls, with a each tint to them. The smell of flowers filled her nostrils. She looked to her right, a large arrangement of flowers covering the table next to her. She tried to life herself up, but a jolt of pain went through her leg. She yelled in pain. A woman ran into the room, asking many times what had happened. The woman placed her hands onto her shoulders, trying to calm her down. Finally, she did. "Who are you? And where am I?"
The woman smiled. She finally got a better look at her. She was obviously a nurse or something along that line. She had purple scrubs with little yellow and pink flowers everywhere on. Her hair was pulled into a tight bun, and had hardly any makeup on, making it look natural. "You're in the Rodeo Hospital. You were hit by a car. You've broken you leg. The man is still here. He claims to know you. Is you name Alexandria Wright?"
She nodded. The woman wrote thing on her clipboard. She looked up and smiled at her. "Well, then I guess you must know him if he knows you. Would you like me to send him in?" She nodded. The woman smiled and walked out. A few minutes later, the man who hit her came in. She couldn't believe who she was seeing.
"Billie?!" she yelled. She couldn't believe that she was looking at him. First she finds out that Green Day hadn't played at Gilman for about two years, then she ends up getting hit by Billie Joe.
"Yup. It's me, Billie Joe Armstrong, in the flesh." he smiled at his own little joke. He got serious and looked at her leg, "How is it?"
She shrugged, "It's okay I guess. I didn't really know I broke it until that lady told me. God do I hate hospitals."
Billie laughed, "You haven't changed one bit, have ya Alex? Look, I'm really sorry for hitting you. I was looking for my Ramones tape and when I found it and put it in, I looked up, and saw you. I was in shock, but I got scared 'cause I didn't want to hit you. Then when I tried to turn the car, it was too late. I'm sorry. But it's broken?"
She nodded. Billie Joe sighed, "Shit Alex. I'm really sorry."
"Don't worry about it. Hey, at least I'm not dead." she managed to smiled, making Billie Joe smile as well. The atmosphere in the room seemed at bit awkward. She didn't expect to actually find one of the three people she left the same day she discovered that she had been away from home for two years. She sensed Billie Joe felt the same way. He kept rubbing his left arm with his right hand. He seemed like he was looking for words to say, but nothing was coming out of his mouth.
"Well Al. Do you think I should call your brother and Mike? Let'em know you're here?"
"Ummm... I guess. How have you guys been? Ya know... Without me around?" she wondered what they've been doing, since she hasn't been around to know.
Billie Joe shuffled from one foot to the other, "It's been pretty rough. Tre hasn't been himself ever since you left. His drumming has been off for a while. We were kinda thinking of breaking up."
"No!" she yelled. "You can't! I love your band. You guys have so much potential. Don't quit just 'cause I'm not there with you guys!" she felt upset. If Green Day were to break up, it would be her fault. She knew that she could never live the same knowing that such a great band, that she thinks can make it big, broke up 'cause of her.
"Well, if Tre sees you, we may not have to break up. Be right back. I'm gonna go call them and tell'em where I am; and that you're here with me." Billie Joe began walking out the door. He stopped when he touched the doorknob and turned around. "Alex?"
"Yeah Billie?"
Billie Joe looked at her with his piercing green eyes, "It's really good to see you again. You don't know how much we've missed you."
"I've missed you too." A smile overcame her face. She felt happy. Even though last night was only a dream, this was real. Billie Joe was here, and she was going to go home; to try and start a normal life again. Even though she got hit by a car and broke her foot, she didn't care. She was actually glad that Billie Joe hit her. Crazy as it is, she found him. Well, really he found her. But, they still were together, and she was going to see her brother and Mike-who she hadn't seen in two years.
"Rudy! Rudy!" she yelled.
Rudy hustled towards her. "What, Alex? What's wrong?"
