We Will Run Away Together Hand In Hand, chapter 26

Meanwhile the other guy put Taylor in the same position and was punching Taylor in the face. Mike threw his bass to the floor then jumped off the stage. Once on the floor, Mike ran at the guy and tackled him to the ground before pounding him in the face with his fist.
By this point the whole building had erupted into an uncontrollable riot. The barrier at the front of the room was being lifted from the floor. It was eventually pushed down and the crowd rushed forwards. Taylor, Rebel and Natalie all stood up and ran as fast as they could. Natalie tripped and fell into the sea of people. Taylor stopped and looked around, Rebel was gone too. She cleared her mind and ran as fast as she could away from the erupting scene.
Natalie was left on the floor trying to crawl though the masses of people. She eventually pulled herself up to the stage far from the rioters. She looked up and saw a fire breaking out in the back corner. Natalie felt tears running down her cheeks as she laid down on her back and looked up at the ceiling. She felt an immense pain in her stomach which made her cry even harder. She looked around, the crowd had gone as if they were all wiped out in some freak wave.
"Frank!" she shouted, "FRANK! Where are you?" she cried.
Tre appeared from behind his drum kit. He heard Natalie's shouts and ran over to her. Tre fell to his knees beside his girlfriend and held her hand.
"Babe are you ok?" he asked.
"Frank my stomach hurts. Don't let my baby die please."
Tre was a little disturbed by the mention of a baby, he hadn't known Natalie was pregnant until then. However he knew that he couldn't let the revelation phase him.
"Alright babe, I won't," Tre replied, "have you seen Billie or Mike?"
"No," Natalie replied, "I haven't seen them since they jumped into the crowd...what if they're dead?"
Tre looked around, that question had also plagued his mind, Billie and Mike were his best friends after all, "I don't know," he said honestly, "have you seen Taylor and Rebel?"
"No," Natalie replied, "I haven't seen anyone apart from you since this all started."
Meanwhile Rebel was staggering around through the debris looking for someone that she knew. More importantly she wanted her husband with her. She felt the most sickening pain in her side but she fought through it. Rebel stepped over various pieces of metal and plastic looking for Billie, Mike, Tre, Natalie and Taylor. The pain in her side intensified causing Rebel to limp slightly. She flicked her black hair out of her face and looked around again. She held very little hope that everyone was alive. Rebel knew that someone had died, she could hear their friend's screams. Apart from that and the crackle of the ever building fire behind her everything was in silence. Rebel had eventually fallen to her knees because of the pain however she still crawled to where she once was.
Taylor walked out from the backstage area and froze when she saw what had been left behind as a result of the riot. She climbed up onto the stage and found Tre and Natalie. She ran over to them and asked if they'd seen anyone else. When they both said no Taylor began to panic, her sister hadn't been seen neither had her brother in law and boyfriend. She stood up and walked over to the end of the stage. All she saw were remains of what was once a happy place. She saw no one else in the debris, just heard the screams of a lone kid.
Taylor's eyes filled with tears, Rebel, Billie and Mike were no where to be seen. Taylor looked around then saw something moving. Someone was still down there, amongst the rubble. All the ways off of the stage were blocked so she couldn't get down there. She told Natalie and Tre about the person and looked on hoping that it was either Rebel, Billie, or Mike.
Rebel slowly stood up, holding her side but fell to the floor in excruciating pain. She thought it best not to scream, it would only show her weakness so she thought. She tried to block out the pain but had great difficulty doing so. Inside Rebel's mind a voice was speaking to her, telling her to give up hope, to just lie on the floor and wait for someone to find her. Rebel tried hard to ignore the voice, she could see people on the stage, maybe she could attract their attention somehow.
"Defiant aren't we?" the voice said to Rebel.
"This isn't defiance," Rebel said darkly, "I spoke nothing of defiance only determination," Rebel said then sprang to her feet and sprinted five maybe ten feet before she fell to the ground again.
Billie Joe heard something rattle above him. He was buried under heavy pieces of metal and some plastic. Billie tried to move but couldn't, he even found it hard to breathe properly. He freed one of his arms and felt the area around him. He was on the floor, at least there was nothing beneath him. Billie could hear someone crying to themselves. He moved his head round and saw Rebel lying on the floor holding her side. Tears filled his eyes and he tried to reach out to Rebel.
"Rebel," he called, his voice was barely audible, "Rebel!" he tried to shout.
Billie felt a bit of metal on top of him vibrate and heard it creak as it fell on top of another bit of metal. Another piece of metal fell hitting Billie in the face knocking him out cold. Rebel looked up at the pile of metal and plastic unaware that her husband was lying beneath it, unconscious and bleeding.
Taylor saw Rebel fall to the ground and immediately panicked. When she heard the metal fall she panicked even more. However she didn't know that it was her brother-in-law underneath the metal, not her sister. Taylor looked around then dived off of the stage. Tre ran to the edge of the stage and looked down. Taylor was running up to the pile of metal like a lunatic. Taylor climbed up onto the mountain of rubble and started to pull the plastic away. As Taylor moved the plastic away another bar of metal slipped from underneath her. The bar of metal slipped and fell out of the pile. The bar fell down, down, down and onto the ground but a clang of metal against concrete wasn't heard. Taylor looked down to see why that was and saw Rebel lying on the floor immobile. The bar had hit Rebel in the throat, one last breath escaped her throat and with that came her last words.
"I love you Billie Joe." And with that the signs of Rebel's life faded and disappeared never to be seen or felt again by anyone except the holy angels in heavenly paradise, enticing Rebel's spirit to leave the world that once loved her behind.
"REBEL!" Taylor screamed.
Mike sat up and ran as best as he could to where Taylor was. Tre and Natalie jumped down from the stage and ran over. All Taylor could do was stand on the pile of debris and stare at her sister, lying sprawled out on the ground with a pool of blood surrounding her.At this point Billie had come to and saw Rebel lying beside him. In spite of this Billie didn't like the sight that greeted his eyes. Rebel was lying on the cold hard floor, her arm was outreached towards Billie. Her hand was curled slightly, her skin had turned pale and her eyes were open and glazed over staring coldly at Billie. The metal bar had crushed her throat, possibly breaking her neck in half. Deep crimson blood seeped through Rebel's pale lips, down her cheek and onto the icy concrete floor beneath her staining her thin black hair. Billie's emerald green eyes filled with tears as he looked on at his dead, young wife lying there before him.
"REBEL!" he screamed as loud as his lungs would let him, Billie then broke down in tears, "Take me too!" he shouted, "Please... Please take me too."
Paramedics were called to the scene and arrived in a matter of minutes. Once Billie was recovered from the pile of mangled metal and plastic, he had to watch his wife's body be delicately laid onto a stretcher and enveloped with a white sheet. Medics tried to help Billie with his injuries but he shoved them away and trailed Rebel's stretcher outside to the awaiting ambulance.
As the ambulance drove away the heavens progressively opened and rain drops hit the asphalt road. He stood alone as the rain began to pour down on the newly depressed world of Billie Joe Armstrong. Tears of bitterness streaked black eyeliner down his cheeks. His bleeding hand curled into a tight fist, his arm was shaking from being so tensed up. Then it hit him, his wife had been killed. Billie's chest fell, his fist and arm loosened and all he could do was stare at the road in a last ditch hope that Rebel would come back to him.
"Rebel... come back... please." Billie whimpered.
Taylor walked over to her brother-in-law and stood behind him for a moment. She slowly approached him and put her hand on Billie's shoulder. Billie jerked himself away from Taylor.
"Get away from me!" Billie screamed then marched aimlessly off down the centre of the empty road in the pouring rain.
Tre and Mike looked at each other then at their widowed friend. They both set off after Billie to make sure that he wouldn't do something stupid. Then again, they wouldn't blame him, after all he had just lost his wife. They both stayed within ear shot of Billie Joe just in case he needed to talk to them.
Taylor walked behind them with Natalie, she felt numb, her sister had just died and she felt that it was her fault. She felt that if she hadn't moved any of the plastic from the pile then Rebel wouldn't have died. Natalie was walking beside her, kicking the ground at points. She wanted to say something to Taylor but nothing seemed appropriate enough at the time. What were you supposed to say to someone who's sister had just died?
"Taylor...I'm sorry about Rebel," Natalie finally said.
"I don't need your sympathy," Taylor snapped, "I killed her so I don't deserve sympathy," she said then walked on ahead.
Billie was walking alone, at the head of the group. All he wanted to do was be alone with his thoughts. Alone with himself, where no one could bother him. Billie turned down a lone road then looked behind him. No one was there, 'Good' he thought, 'No one can see me now.' A wind howled through the dull and dead air. Tears escaped Billie's cold eyes. His warmth disappeared as soon as he found Rebel dead. Yet again his guard was up and no one would be able to hurt him again.
Billie's mind meandered to Rebel, his recently desist wife. Her body would be lying in state now, Billie got pictures in his mind of Rebel lying on the cold metal table. The scars on her wrists were still there but a very faint red, the lips that Billie had kissed so many times were pale, untouched, unloved. Since her death barely an hour ago Billie had wished that it was some sick, twisted prank that Rebel was playing on him. All he could think of was the last time he saw her, the corpse that lay beside him just out of reach. She lay there peacefully with the angels, Billie would have given anything to hold his bride in his arms for one last time. Now and forever more he would be denied of that right, the luxury. Soon enough Billie found himself at a deserted beach. The sea lay still, the place seemed derelict. No one and nothing was around, anywhere to be seen. Up in the sky was the hollow low of the moon, the pinholes people call stars and blackness. Black, the colour of Billie Joe's heart. Billie dragged his feet across the sand and collapsed to the ground. Laying face down Billie threw himself over so he could see the sky above him. His expression of sadness disappeared so his face was a blank canvas. His eyes of green faded to black, darkness and cold heartedness. Billie Joe Armstrong was fading away, Saint Jimmy was taking over Billie's body.
"She's gone Jimmy," Billie said.
"Good," Jimmy replied coldly, "now no one can stop us."
"I want to be with Rebel."
"For God sake boy! She's dead, plain and simple. Dead and buried!" Jimmy said, "then again...we could give her a fond farewell or a fondle."
"What?!" Billie questioned, "are you fucking insane?"
"No but you are Billie, for dreaming me up."
"I'm not the one that wants to feel up my dead wife."
"Don't say it hasn't crossed your mind," Jimmy said then made Billie stand up.
Jimmy had taken over Billie's body and mind by that point. Jimmy sauntered down the roads leading to the hospital. All of that time the spirit and mind of Billie Joe Armstrong now lay dormant waiting to be unleashed upon the world once again.
