What Are You Going To Do, Billie?...Kill Me?, chapter 14
"I can't do this," Billie said, she slowly pulled away from him. He stood up, looking down at her as she sat there on the grass.
"What is with you?" She asked as she stood up, she stood in front of him.
"What we're doing is wrong..."
"Well why did you come and see me then?" She asked, she couldn't help but feel hurt in a sense, even though it was nothing to get upset over, but that's how she felt at the time.
"I needed to, I don't know, Jesus!" He yelled out, he pulled his hands up to his hair and rubbed his head, unsure as to why he needed to, maybe he just wanted to.
She was starting to get frustrated with him. She looked at him, as he tried to keep his eyes away from her.
"What the hell Billie?! Don't fucking do this to me!" She yelled, he didn't want to hear it, so he grunted and turned around and started walking. " Billie?! Why are you doing this?!" She said as she quickly started walking after him, he ignored her. She starting get to freaked out by what he was doing.
She keeps calling his name, but he wouldn't answer. She followed him back to his car. He opened the car door and got in, she really didn't know how he was feeling.
He hated feeling like the way he was; he just didn't know what to do. It was like a fly that wouldn't go away. It ate his brain away. Not the fly but his thoughts.
She sighed; she didn't get in the car.
Billie just kept his eyes forward, not starting the car, waiting for her to get in. But she thought that he wasn't going to take her home.
"Are you coming or what?" She heard him say as she looked threw the window; she opened the car door and sat down. He still didn't start the car.
"What is up with you? One minute you're all fine and then the next you're acting like this..." He didn't say anything, his fingers turned the key and the car started.
She just gave up, the drive back to the school was quiet, and nothing was said. It was more than awkward, it was uncomfortable.
He stopped the car at the front of the school.
"I just have no idea what to say..." He said, the first words in about 10 minutes.
She had had enough.
"Billie, I can't stand it when you say that you don't know! Almost everything you say to me is that you don't fucking know!"
"Well maybe it's because I DON'T!" She rolled her eyes.
"What is it that you don't know?! Why can't you just fucking think about it without fogging up everything in your fucking mind!" They both looked at each other.
" Okay fine! I'll tell you about what I don't know! I don't know where I am going from here! I don't know why I make things out to be so complicated, when really it's not! I don't know why I just can't have fun without having to think of shit like that! And last thing! I don't know why I seem to care about you so fucking much! And I don't know why I want to see you when I already have someone!" She couldn't say anything.
Already have someone
Those are the words that can kill you instantly when you really care about someone and it was hurting Cali.
"Well I'll tell you how to know about stuff you don't fucking know! Grow up...Don't let people push you around; don't let yourself think that stuff! Think about what you want to fucking do! I know that you! Billie Joe fucking Armstrong can do whatever the fuck he wants if he puts in the effort! And start having fun!" She stopped; he not only heard what she was saying, because she was yelling it at him. But he didn't actually listen to it. "And I don't know why I care about you so much too! But I am always fucking here if you want to see me! But you have to KNOW about what you want to do! Don't drag me around like that...Because if you already have someone, you're just going to end up hurting me! And I don't know why this happened to us both, but it fucking did..." After saying that she opened the door and slammed it shut after she got out. She ran back down to the school, leaving Billie to think about what she had said. And for the first time he actually knew something for sure.
" I'm not going to have a girlfriend" He said to himself, he didn't need to have a girlfriend, he wasn't going to get married next year or anything. He wanted to sort things out, besides girls. He wanted to get himself straight and start getting his act together.
He drove off; things were starting to clear up.
*
Cali ran back into the school, not caring if she got caught. She ran back to her room and crashed onto the bed. Katie wasn't there, thank fuck. She screamed into her pillow.
"WHY ARE YOU FUCKING DOING THIS TO ME!?" She screamed, "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE ME THINK THIS?!...Why do you even fucking know me!?" She screamed again, she couldn't help the tears that fell. Then she stopped, a thought flashed through her mind, making her think of it.
She was using him.
Using him to get rid of the lust that she had for him, using him to get away from reality, after all. Billie Joe was an escape for her, and it was his entire fault. She needed to get those thoughts out; she needed to express it in some way. So she got out some paper from her bag, and a pen. She went over to the small window and looked out. The night sky coming in, she closed her eyes and went deep down inside of herself; bring up the feelings she had pushed away.
Once she had caught them, it was on the paper.
She wasn't the type for writing poems or songs; although she did need to write a poem for English class the next day...Writing it made her a whole lot better.
***
The next day Cali's first class was English, and for the first time she had actually got her homework done. She walked into the half full class of boarding girls, and her teachers, Mr Neil. Most times Mr Neil would put her to sleep, he was the most boring teacher and person she had ever seen, he would repeat things, go on even after the bell had gone, and got you to do work during lunch. Cali looked around the classroom, to find that the only seats left were the ones at the front, she liked sitting at the back. Not because it was cool to, but so that no one was staring at the back of her head. She took a seat in the second row.
"Cali, since you're the only one with their homework done, you can read your poem out to the class." Mr Neil said, after about half way through the lesson. Cali stood up and went to the front, she looked at all the girls, she hated being in rooms filled with people, and she just didn't belong. She took a big breath and said the title of the poem.
"The rights of Cali." All the well-known girls laughed.
"What kind of a freak puts their name in a poem?" One of them said, the rest laughed. Cali wanted to go up to them and tackle them to the ground, she just imaged it.
"Shut up! Go on Cali." Mr Neil said. Cali kept her eyes to the paper, and started reading it.
"The light on my cigarette burns away fast.
I look up to the cloudy mist,
And try to see the stars,
That feeling comes of tomorrow, i wish
The time would go by..
So I close my eyes and try to think of the words that might come by.
A shock runs down my spine, as I go of into my place.

That feeling that I love so much.
I got sucked back in, and I've found a face.
A reflection of myself.
I melt straight through him, as his hand slips in mine.
I'll never leave this place."

"Kelly, I can't be with you at the moment..."
"What?" Kelly's eyes weld up; her heart was just ripped in two. Or like it was on fire.
"I just can't be with a girl, it's not what I want to do or think about right now. But I will still love you,"
She let that one tear fall; she looked him straight in the eye.
"Fuck you Billie Joe." She said, her voice just able to. He looked down; it hurt him more than ever to say that.
***
The months had gone by, at least a whole year to what Cali was told. But it felt like 5 years, the green in her hair had gone back to its natural light brown colour, but she dyed it back to black. She had become great friends with Kelly, after Billie had broken things off with Kelly; she went to Cali and told her. Talking to Cali made things a whole lot easier. And after that, they just become friends; of course Megan and Anna became better friends with Cali too. They would go to Gilman when they could and have fun, but they never saw Green Day play for quite some time, they had gone on tour after the release of their LP 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.
Cali hadn't seen Billie since that day, the day she yelled at him in the car after going to the park. She hadn't forgotten about him, just moved on. Both Billie and Cali expected to see each other after that, but they had given up after awhile. It was best to just leave what was said. But Cali still thought about Billie, she wanted to keep him in her mind. She was starting to think that he was more to her than what she originally thought. But he was far away, and that was that.
As for Kelly, she moved on too. She had left school after getting a job in CD place in up town Oakland, and eventually getting to own the place, after the boss had passed away. She gave Megan a job and they went on with their lives.
Cali was still in the boarding school though. She had turned 17, feeling a whole lot older. Her mom never got to get her out of there, Cali just got into heaps of trouble, but not enough to get her out of there. So she stayed there, and hung out with Anna while ditching classes. Her father and Lucy had gotten married, but they also sent the 2 other younger boys to an all boy boarding school after Lucy had told her new husband to.
As for Green day, Al had decided to go on the tour. So Green Day went on their first tour. Billie Joe had regrets that whole trip, he thought about Kelly for the first week, and then he just stopped. He got on with the one thing he would never regret. His music, and now he hadn't had a girlfriend for that whole year, and he didn't mind. He thought about Cali a few times. Well maybe more than a few times, wondering what it would of been like if he was still with her, and wondering what she was doing at the time. But after awhile, that stopped as well. Because she was too far away, and he thought she had forgotten about him. And that was that. He never expected to see her again.
"31.12.1990 Good bye, 1.1.1991 hello!" Cali yelled out of the car window.
"Cali, please keep the lameness out of my car, awesomeness is only allowed." Kelly said as she kept driving down the highway, the California air filling them as the sun kept the skylight.
"Well I was just saying hello..." Cali said as she looked to the seat in front of her, Megan was sitting in the front.
"Yes...Hello..." Anna said, with a laugh. Kelly rolled her eyes and grinned.
"I wonder if there will be any hot guys there..." Megan said, Kelly looked over to her and then back to the road.
"It's the New Year festival Megan, I'm pretty sure every hot guy in the Bay will be there...And the bands that are playing, more bands means more hot guys..." Cali laughed.
"Is guys all you girls talk about? Although, I kind of need a hot guy to give my new years kiss to,"
"You don't have to kiss a guy, well...If you don't find one, and neither can I, I'll kiss you." Kelly said with a laugh.
"There has to be at least one guy there that will kiss me!" Cali said quickly, they all laughed.
After about another hour of driving Kelly had finally drove them to midtown Oakland. The cars were blocking the streets and about 5 thousand people crowded the streets. Kelly found a parking lot, and after about 2 hours of looking for a parking spot that wasn't taken, she found one.
"Well it's 9 now, the bands don't start playing until after the 'bringing in of the new year' crap, so lets just look around?" Anna suggested.
"Fuck it's cold!" Cali yelled, shivering as well.
"Well just be fucking glad it isn't snowing!" Megan said, they all starting walking to where the 'party' was. They started to see the crowd of people.
"FUCK YOU YEAR OF 1990"
"FUCK ME TOO!" Kelly screamed out after Cali, they all stared at her. "What?" They all laughed and kept walking, they walked into the crowd.
"Let's go to the stage thingy were the bands are going to play, there actually might be our kind of people there, this part of the 'party' seems to be the church people." Megan said, they all followed her until they found the stage were the bands were going to play.
"I'm sure glad school break is on, otherwise we wouldn't of been allowed to go..." Anna said, Cali nodded and looked around at all the people that crowded in the streets. She thought it was funny how people would come together to celebrate the New Year, Cali was just celebrating that '89 and 1990 was gone and that she wouldn't have to deal with it again, in '89 she had gone through physical pain, but in 1990 she had emotional pain. They started to see the punks of the bay area, after all the 'gangster' people they had passed just to get there.
"I sure fucking hope that no one is going to rap on stage tonight!" Kelly yelled out, this part of the crowd seemed to be a whole lot louder. "Okay..." Kelly said as she stood in front of the other girls. "Who wants to split up? We can meet back up at the car at about 3 am..."
"But what if one of us is drunk?" Anna said.
"Good point," Cali said. Meagn nodded.
"Well what if we go off in pairs, me and you Cali...And Megan and Anna?"
"Yeah, Me and Anna were going to go find those guys from Rancid..." Megan said, Rancid was one of the bands that played at Gilman a few times, both Megan and Anna liked them and had talked about trying to find them after they heard that they were going to be there.
"Sounds like a plan to me, but we have to meet up at the car at 3 am, one of the partners have to stay sober... Kelly since your driving..." Kelly rolled her eyes and playfully slapped her arm.
"Okay 3 am! SEE YA HAPPY NEW YEAR!" Kelly yelled as she dragged Cali away with her.
About 3 and half hours later, Kelly had separated from Cali. Kelly had found a guy she once knew named Tommy. Cali got sick of watching them 'catch up'...So she went off; she walked around a few times. Not really doing anything, she had bought some beer from a bar; they thought she looked 21 so they gave it to her. She walked around the streets hugging her jumper closer to her; the air was like walking into a freezer. She looked down at her watch,
"11:56" She saw, then the New Year music started to play. It was getting closer, a whole new year...Was getting closer. She didn't really give into tradition, but she thought it was fun having a New Year kiss with someone you cared about. But there wasn't anyone there she knew. Everyone started screaming, as the big town clock got closer to the 12.
She screamed out a few times, people turned around once they heard her. She was most likely the loudest there. Then she made a plan, when the count down finally ended she was going to turn around and kiss whoever was behind her and kissable, kissable being...Not already being kissed. She threw away her cigarette butt, as the count down started, feeling completely stupid for what she was going to do.
She had that rush of a new start ran through her as it started.
"10, 9, 8, 7!" She loved that feeling. "6, 5, 4!" Get ready. "3, 2!" She quickly turned around, so fast that she only saw someone with dread locks.
"1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
Her lips pushed against the person's lips. Her lips were moving along with someone else's. It was something she knew. It wasn't just a peck, this...Just wow!
She pulled away from the person's lips....
