A BJA & Angelia Story, chapter 2
The group greeted me warmly and I was immediately sucked in to the chatter and asked a bunch of questions. Luckily, Billie pulled me aside to give me the tour. Three girls, about my age, followed behind us, gossiping. I knew one of their names was Courtenay, but I didnt know the others.
When the tour was over, Billie took me back to the other kids, probably thinking that I like...wanted to go back.
"Hey again," a boy standing next to one of the girls that followed us said.
"Hey," I muttered shyly.
"My name's Jakob," the boy said, offering his hand. I took it hesitantly and shook it, "and this is Kaytee," he said, motioning to one of the girls. Kaytee smiled and nodded at me, "and this is Deanna, Courtenay, Jimmy and I'm assuming you already know Mike and Tre."
I nodded and glanced around for Billie.
"Um, hey," I said, "do you guys think that I could have something to eat?"
"Oh, I should have known you would be hungry," Tre said, apologetically.
Billie joined us in the kitchen and pulled out enough food to feed a classroom of hungry kids. He laid it all out. All together there was: 2 loaves of bread, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly, a bowl of fruit [half of the kinds of fruit I had never seen before], 3 jugs of different kids of juices and a bunch of other sandwhich making stuff. I made myself a turkey sandwhich and wolfed it down. Then, I poured myself a tall glass of orange juice and savored the sweet, best tasting juice I'de ever tasted.
After lunch, we all got on our bathing suits [I borrowed one of Deanna's] and headed out to the pool. I knew all of the kids pretty well by now. Deanna, Court and Kaytee were 17, as well as Jakob. It was quite obvious now that Deanna and Tre were together, Court and Jimmy were together. Leaving me, with no one. Billie walked up beside me and challenged me to a cannonball contest. I agreed without any hesitation. He went first. The splash it made had to have set a cannon ball record. It would be hard to top that, especially in a bikini. I stepped up onto the low diving board, and ran forward at top speed. I threw myself high into the air, tucked up as tight as I could and felt the huge swell of pressure as I hit the water. I came up and stared at all the surprised expressions. I could tell it wasn't my sucky jump that had them staring at me like that. I looked down. Shit. My top, it had come undone and was now hanging loosely around my waist.
I snatched viciously at my bikini top and tied it sloppily. Then, I climbed out of the pool, not sure which was redder, my ferrari read bikini or my face. Deanna hurried over to me, obviously embarrassed for me and gave me a sympathetic look.
"That happened to me the other day," she said, soothingly, "Billie challenged me to a cannon ball contest during Mike's birthday party, so there was like a million people there, and my top came totally off."
She smiled bitterly at me, and shuddered at the thought of the flashback. I couldn't believe this had happened to me. ON MY FIRST DAY MEETING THESE PEOPLE. Kaytee and Court came and gave me their words of sympathy and then we all went, towelled ourselves off and changed into dry clothes.
Billie motioned for me to come sit next to him in front of the fire. I had changed and was now wearing one of Kaytee's mini skirts and a tanktop. I plunked myself down beside Billie and Court and absorbed the warmth of the fire. Why couldn't it have been like this at home? I wondered how Kaytee, Deanna and Court had come to live here. Probably because they had boyfriends in Green Day. I sighed and shut my mind off and just let myself relax.
