The Day Billie's and Mike's Life Came Crashing Down, chapter 10
Back in ER
Dr Relva was looking at Mike's condition and wasn't very happy about it. His chest wasn't looking too good either, it had started to bleed slightly and Mike's breathing was getting slower. His heart rate was dropping, fast.
Everyone in the room was doing everything they could to try and keep him alive. After a few nail biting minutes Mike's condition was stable again and his breathing was under control. His heart rate was getting back to normal.
They cleaned his chest up a bit and took him into a private room next to Billie's. They hooked him up to a heart machine and a breathing monitor and left him there while they went to check on Billie.
In theatre
Dr Relva came into the room and walked over to the nurse.
"How's he doing?" He asked looking concerned at Billie.
"Well he's stable at the moment but I don't understand why does he keep on burning up? Every time he does burn up his breathing slows down. It might have something to do with the gashes but I don't know, what do you think?" She asked.
"I'm not sure unless it might be caused when he has panic or anxiety attacks, so we'll have to make sure that he stays as calm as possible."
Once Billie was back to normal breathing they took him back to his room and kept the breathing monitor on. When they went past Mike's room, Tre was looking out of the window at Billie with a relieved expression on his face now that Billie is back to normal but still unconscious.
Midnight
Mike woke up to find that he was on his own in a strange room. He looked out of the window to the other room and saw Billie hooked to a breathing machine; Tre was sitting next to him asleep in the chair. Mike was still scared of Tre and what he might do but so long as he was near Billie he was all right. He couldn't help but keep thinking about what Billie had written in the diary and how he's getting through all this. He drifted off into a deep sleep a few minutes later.
Meanwhile in Billie's room his breathing was getting slower and slower by the second, he was soon having another fit. Tre woke up and rang the buzzer and the nurse came running in.
"Oh no, not again. I NEED SOME HELP IN HERE, PLEASE!" She screamed and Dr Relva came running.
"What's wrong? Has he gone into another fit?"
"Yeah, why does it keep on happening? He hasn't been awake yet so he should be fine. His breathing is getting worse."
"Alright let's get him into theatre! GO, GO, GO!" Dr Relva said getting Billie more oxygen.
Mike woke up just to see Billie getting rushed out of his room and back into theatre. Tre was following with tears down his face.
"Oh Billie! What's wrong with you?" Mike asked himself, and he tried to stay awake until Billie came back.
In theatre
Billie had calmed down and he was wincing slightly.
"It is definitely got something to do with the gashes. Let's put some liquid on them and cover them with bandages." Dr Relva said checking his pulse.
"Should we try him in with Mr Dirnt. See if he does any better in there with him.2 the nurse said bringing over the liquid and bandages.
"Yeah, I think that they should be with each other. They've been through so much these past few weeks. They need each other at the moment." Dr Relva replied, finishing putting the liquid and bandages on Billie.
"Shall I take him back up then?" She asked.
"Yeah, let's go." He said putting Billie's oxygen mask back on.
Back in Mike's room
Mike was trying to stay awake, when Billie returned, but instead of going back into his own room, he came into Mike's.
"Ah, Mr Dirnt you're awake." Dr Relva said putting Billie next to Mike.
Mike pulled his oxygen mask off and asked,
"What's going on? Is he dying?"
"What! No, we just thought that all that you guys have been through, that you might want to be near each other."
"Thanks, but what's wrong with him?" Mike asked reaching for Billie's hand.
"We think that it definitely might have something to do with the gashes on his arms and chest so we put some liquid on them and bandages to cover it to make sure that it doesn't get an infection."
"Oh, right."
"Don't worry, he will be fine within a week or so. I'll come back and check you both in an hour, ok?"
"Yeah, sure. Thanks again." Mike said, looking at Billie, while he was still unconscious. He looked so cute lying there, helpless and weak.
He was still holding Billie's hand when Tre appeared.
"What the fuck are you doing to him?" Tre asked looking angrily at Mike.
"Look Tre, I'm not doing anything to him alright, I'm just holding his hand." Mike said, still keeping hold of Billie's hand, hoping that he would wake up soon.
"Don't even touch him, you shouldn't even be anywhere near him after what you did to him." Tre said moving closer to him with his mad, scary look in his eyes.
"For the last time I didn't do anything to him, you have to believe me. Tre, please, stay away from me, Tre, Tre, please, keep away from me." Mike said now scared of Tre. He started to shake with fear, as Tre was getting really close.
"Mike? Tre?" Billie said weakly.
"Billie, are you alright?" Mike asked, relieved that Billie woke up in time to save him from Tre.
"Yeah, I'm fine, what happened? Where am I?" Billie asked looking confused.
"You're in hospital, remember? You started burned up and your breathing was getting slower, don't you remember?" Tre answered, worried about Billie.
"Oh yeah, I remember you asked me something and you told me that Mike was in ER, is he alright?" Billie asked Tre not noticing that Mike was holding his hand.
"Yeah, he's fine. He's right next to you holding your hand." Tre replied, confused.
"Oh Mike, I'm so glad that you are here, look I know that you are wondering how I got the gashes and I . . .." Billie started but got interrupted by Mike.
"Tre thought that I did that to you so he tied me up and wouldn't let me go, then he untied me then he kicked me in the chest where I got attacked and made me pass out. That's why I coughed up blood!" Mike said in tears.
"What! Tre how could you think that Mike done that to me, he's like my brother he would never hurt me; you should know that by now! I can't believe that you done that to Mike, you could have killed him! For fuck sake, if you really want to know who did this to me, then I will tell you! It wasn't Mike so don't you dare think that it was him! IT WAS ME! I DID IT TO MYSELF!" Billie said, angry with Tre for thinking that Mike would have hurt him.
"I only thought that because I saw Mike in your room with a knife that had dried blood on it. When I appeared he hid it under your pillow and pretended that I didn't see it but I did!" Tre said, getting annoyed now.
"You were in my room!" Billie said to Mike.
"Look Billie, I was only in your room because I was worried about you and I wanted to find out what you were feeling that's all, because you hardly talk anymore and I just wanted to find out what you were thinking. That's how I found the knife and when Tre appeared I put it back where it was. Please you have to believe that Billie." Mike said holding onto Billie's hand.
"Oh that's a lot of bullshit, that is, don't believe him Billie, Billie!" Tre said trying to get his attention but he wasn't listening to him.
"You were worried about me?" Billie asked looking into Mike's eyes, with tears running down his face.
"Of course I was worried about you. Look Billie, I care about you a lot, but all I want is for you to talk to me once in a while, just to tell me what you're thinking and how you feel. These past few weeks I've been kind of thinking that you don't realize that I'm here as you never tell me anything anymore, and I've just kind of been feeling a bit left out. You don't have to tell me everything I just want to know that you can tell me as much as you like. I am always here if you need to talk. You might then, not take your emotions out on your body." Mike said back to Billie wiping away his tears.
"Mike, I know that you are here and you don't have to feel left out, I just, I just like to keep something's to myself that's all and I will tell you stuff, you've just got to understand that I will tell you when I'm ready. I can promise you that I won't take any more emotion out on my body, just as long as you don't read anymore out of my diary. I will shoe you when I am ready, ok?" Billie asked, not taking his eyes away from Mike's.
"Yeah, ok. That's all I wanted to hear." Mike said giving Billie a hug.
"UH, HELLO! I'M STILL HERE YOU KNOW!" Tre shouted, breaking Mike and Billie apart.
"We know that you are here Tre and you have to learn to trust things that your friends tell you. So when Mike tells you something like, he didn't hurt me, then trust him, otherwise I can't trust you." Billie said looking at Tre with a concerned looking face.
"Alright, look Mike, I'm sorry that I almost killed you and for thinking that you hurt Billie and for everything else. Billie I'm really sorry to have made you keep your thoughts bottled up these past few weeks. I've been thinking that you would be a lot better off without me!" Tre said, not looking at Billie or Mike.
"Tre, look I forgive you, but you don't have to go me and Billie love you and we can't imagine trying to get over you again." Mike said.
"Do you really mean that?" Tre asked.
"Of course we mean that Tre and if you leave us again then I don't know how I would cope, you know what happened the first time you left us don't you?" Billie asked, looking at Tre with a pained expression on his face.
"Yeah, I know look you don't have to worry I'm not going anywhere in a hurry. What's wrong?" Tre asked Billie, as he was looking a bit pale.
"Billie, are you feeling alright?" Mike asked not letting go of Billie's hand.
Billie collapsed over the side of the bed and was starting to throw up. Most of it was blood.
"Billie come on, what's wrong? Wake up, please. Billie! Billie! Please wake up." Mike screamed trying to wake him up but nothing was happening.
"Mike, ring the buzzer, for fuck sake call the nurse in!" Tre screamed, but Mike wouldn't let go of Billie.
Tre jumped up next to Mike and rang for the nurse. She came running in.
"What's wrong? What happened?" She asked Mike.
"He was turning pale and then he collapsed over the side of the bed and started to throw up blood." Mike replied in tears and still he wouldn't let go of Billie.
"Please Mr Dirnt, let him go. I need to help him by taking him back into theatre!" The nurse said taking Billie away from Mike.
She laid him back onto the bed and rushed him into theatre where Dr Relva was looking at an x-ray of Mike's chest wound.
"What happened? Another fit?" He asked taking Billie up to the light.
"No, not this time. He collapsed over the side of the bad and began to throw up blood." She said putting on an oxygen mask on Billie.
"Right! Check his chest." he said taking the bandage off and seeing that the cut had got bigger and darker.
"That's not supposed to happen is it?" The nurse asked.
"No, it's not. But it's just this cut all the rest are healing up nicely. It seems that the blood has all gathered into this cut so it is making it more painful on the rest of the body." Dr Relva replied taking a look at the cut more closely. "The only thing we can do is get permission from Mr Dirnt to..."
"No! You can't do that! There must be someway in which we can help him. We can't ask Mr Dirnt to give us permission to kill the only person left in his life, he'd kill himself!"
"But there is nothing that I can do! This cut has gotten to dark for me to do anything about it. We can either let Mr Armstrong live the rest of his life in pain or we can help him by not being in pain anymore but we have to make a decision now!"
"I'll stay here while you go and tell Mr Dirnt what you want to do."
"Very well."
Dr Relva walked past Billie and left to ask for Mike's permission to let him die without any more pain in his life, while the nurse stood over Billie with tears in her eyes.
"Why does this stuff always happen to the kind, gentle, cute ones." She said to herself stroking his jet-black hair.
In Mike's room
Mike was sitting up on his bed, crying when Dr Relva came in.
"Um, Mr Dirnt, I need your permission for us to help Billie." He said walking up to Mike.
"What kind of permission? What's wrong with Billie?" Mike asked wiping a couple of tears away with the back of his hand.
" His chest has got darker and we can't do anything about it so the best thing to do for him would be to let him go to end his pain."
"What! You want me to give you permission to let my best friend die, so that I will be left all on my own. No! You can't! I won't let you do that to him!" Mike said not believing anything that Dr Relva has just told him.
"Mr Dirnt, please listen to me. The cut has gotten too dark for me to do anything about it. So you can either let Mr Armstrong live the rest of his life in pain or you can spare him the agony and let him go! I know that this is a hard decision but I really need an answer within one or two hour's time. I'll keep him on a breathing machine while you make your decision and if you decide to let him live we'll do the best that we can to keep him alive." Dr Relva said walking away.
Mike didn't know what to do, should he let Billie be free from any more pain or should he let Billie be in pain for the rest of his life. He just couldn't make that decision, live or die, live or die they just kept repeating themselves in his mind.
"Don't let him die Mike." Tre said, in a teary voice.
"If I do then he won't be in anymore pain but if I don't he will be in pain for the rest of his life. I couldn't do that to him. But I don't want to let him go either. I don't know what to do Tre." Mike said, he was too upset to think of an answer though if it was him and Billie had to make the decision then he'd know what he'd choose.
"Please, I know that there is a way to keep him alive. I just don't want to see you left on your own. Billie will pull through you just have to believe that. Please Mike, let him live! Tre said trying not to cry.
"I don't want to be the one to make him live the rest of his life in pain, but I also don't want to be left on my own. I've got to do the right thing. I know what Billie would do if it was me. He'd let me go so I wouldn't have any pain, but, this is Billie." Mike said, he had an answer.
Dr Relva came in and walked up to Mike.
"Do you have an answer for me?" He asked.
"Yeah" Mike replied.
"Well?"
"I want Billie to . .
