Some Days He Feels Like Dying, chapter 3
I called Mike right away. I had to tell him. He told me that he'd come over and watch the kids while I take a plane over to Minnesota.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?!", I yelled. "I CAN'T GO TO MINNESOTA!"
"Fine." said Mike in a rather amused way. "No Minnesota, no Adrienne..."
Okay, so he had a good point. But what was I supposed to do when I got there. Get on my hands and knees and beg for Adie to come back? Well, whatever I was doing, I couldn't turn back because I was already on a plane. I was a little nervous... I hadn't the slightest idea where Adrienne was, she's probably so pissed at me she would shoot me if she could, and I don't know my way around Minnesota too well.
Once I landed, I got in my car and drove to Minneapolis. I walked into some hotel and asked if they had any available rooms. The lady seemed to be pretty schocked that 'I, Billie Joe Armstrong' was standing right there in front of her. I swear, that lady was gonna pass out, but instead she - still in awe - said, "Room 113 is available."
"Thanks." I said.
I got to my hotel room and dropped my stuff on the ground. I was gonna start looking for Adrienne. So I started heading out for my car. I couldn't understand why it was such a long walk from the hotel to the parking lot. But it was, like, 6 blocks.
Five minutes into my joy ride I ran into somebody.
"Whoah! Sorry bout that." I said. I looked at the girl who just happened to be wearing a Green Day shirt.
"Nice shirt." I said.
Which was rather stupid, but who cares? The girl was a Green Day fan!
"Oh, my God." was all the girl said. She was about 11 or 12. She was kinda tense, so I tried to be friendly and loosen her up.
"Um... now you can tell people at school who you've met today, "I said with a smile.
"Heh," she replied.
"I'm Billie Joe", I said. I was completely aware that she knew I was Billie Joe Armstrong, but I just wanted to make sure she didn't mistake me for anybody else. "What's your name?"
"...Bessie", she said.
"How long have you been a fan of us?"
"Basicly my whole life. I kinda grew up with you guys..."
"Oh, that's great."
"Mmhmm."
There was a huge moment of silence and then she asked me a couple questions. It was weird though because it didn't feel like one of those interviews or anything. I really liked this girl. She was funny, polite, and sweet. I couldn't help but make a conversation with her.
After a while I said, "Well, I better get going. I'm sort of looking for somebody."
She looked a little upset, but still said, "Okay."
I gave her a big hug and thanked her for being a fan for so long. She thanked me for my music. I felt flattered.
After we walked our seperate ways, I kept on thinking about her. I don't know why. I've seen and talked to so many fans before it's not like this was any different. But she was. She was really different.
I finally got to my car. I drove around Minneapolis, then I drove over to St. Paul (where Adie would most likely be), and saw her walking down the street. I was so excited and happy I cried. I was in the middle of the street, but I still jumped out of the car. I ran over to her as fast as my legs could go.
At this point, I was bawling. I ran up to her and hugged her and took her head in my hands. I kissed her all over her face and her neck. Tears were streaming down my face. And I finally noticed something. She was crying too. Adrienne missed me! Oh, my God.
"Adrienne, Adrienne", I kept on saying. We hugged and kissed for a while, and I brought her back into my car. We drove back to my hotel. We sat there on the bed kissing. And finally she said it.
"I love you, Billie Joe. I love you."
