An Extraordinary Girl, chapter 11
*Saturday Morning*
Amanda felt the soft sunlight hit her face. She let out a groan and rolled over onto her other side. She pulled the blankets over her head, trying to fillter out the light. She heard someone running though the halls and into her room. Soon there was a sudden jolt in the bed and Amanda was knocked on the floor.
"Wake up Manda Panda!" a bouncing Tre shouted.
"Tre FUCKING Cool!" Amanda shouted after she sat up.
"Ummmm, you said a dirty word. Bad Manda Panda. I'm telling on you," Tre said sitting on the bed with an ear-to-ear smile.
"You say it all the time. And what did you just call me?"
"Manda Panda. It's my new nickname for you."
Amanda just shrugged. She stood up and pushed Tre out into the hallway and shut the door behind them. She slowly walked downstairs, in her pajamas, into the kitchen to be greeted by the Armstrong family with good mornings.
"Good morning," Amanda said in a tired voice, as she sat at the table next to Billie, and placed her head against the table.
"Rough night?" Billie asked with a smirk. Amanda shook her head 'no' as some of her hair fell over both side of her face. "More like rough awakening," she mumbled through her hair.
"Oh? Who awoke you?" Adie asked as she placed a plate of eggs and bacon at the table. Amanda sat up and stared at her food.
"Tre," she mumbled before taking a bite of beacon. Billie just shook his head with a smirk.
"Sorry, Amandalynn, we forgot to lock him up last night," he said with a slight chuckle. Amanda raised her eyebrows and stared at Billie with a confused look on her face.
"What did you call me?" she asked after swallowing her food.
"Amandalynn. It's a new nickname. Mike pointed out that when you say your name fast it sounds like we're saying A mandolin," he answered. Amanda contiued to stare at him as if he were a loon. "You know? Like the musical instrument."
"Yeah, I know. I ain't completely retarded," Amanda said as she returned her attention back to her food.
"Ain't, ain't a word, and you ain't going to say it," Billie said in a mocking tone. Amanda let out a groan as she swatted at his arm. He chuckled as he dodged her playfully.
"Dad, leave her alone," Joey said through a mouthful of food.
"Yeah, dad. Stop acting like Tre," Jakob said after swallowing his food. Billie gasped at what his youngest son said. He placed a hand to his heart and made a very shocked face.
"I am utterly insulted. How can you think I'm like Tre. I mean, I'm a lot more mature than he is." The rest of the Armstrong family, including Amanda, burst out laughing.
"What?" Billie asked at the sudden outburst from his family.
"Hunny, you think you're more mature? You two are both immature. At times you are acting your age. AT times," Adie said with a giggle. A smile played at her husband's lips. What she had said was true about him, he was always like Tre. When the band was together they always were childish, but when seperated they always acted their age, except for Tre he's always childish. Now a days, the band was never seperated since they are living together.
Amanda finished her breakfast and excused herself from the table. She slowly slumped back up the stairs and flopped down on her bed. She covered her head with her pillow and sighed. Footsteps were heard entering room and extra weight was put on the bed. She peeked out from underneath the pillow to find Joey sitting on her bed.
"What do you want?" she asked in a muffled voice.
"Just seeing how you were. I mean you kinda stormed off before I could ask."
"I'm fine. Just tired because Tre sent me flying out of bed, literally."
"Ha. He's done that to me a bunch of times," Joey said as Amanda uncovered her head, leaving her hair messier than it already was, and sitting up. He chuckled and smoothed down her hair a bit before staring into her hazel eyes. He noticed so much sorrow, sorrow that she was hiding on the outisde.
"What's wrong?" he asked, concern playing at his voice.
"Nothing," she whispered looking away.
"There's something wrong, Amanda. It shows in your eyes."
"I just," she started, letting a sigh escape her lips before continuing," I just miss my mom and dad."
"It must be hard for you. I mean losing your family," he said placing a hand on her knee. She glanced at his hand and then at him.
"You don't understand, Joey. You didn't loose your mom when your were eight. You didn't loose you dad a few weeks ago. You don't know how it feels. You don't know how I feel. I feel so empty," she said with fresh tears escaping her eyes.
"Shush, don't cry," he whispered wiping a tear away, a small gap in between them. He stole a glance at her. Something snapped inside of him. With impulses taking control, he leaned in and kissed her, closing the gap. He tangled his fingers in her hair. She struggled a bit, but relaxed to his touch. He teased open her teeth with his tongue and gained entrance. Then, started a small make out session before Amanda pulled away.
"Joey, this is wrong. We're brother and sister. We can't do this. And plus we're like ten," she whispered, avoiding his gaze. He slowly nodded and released her. He gave her one last kiss before standing up and exiting the room. She stared at the place where he once was sitting, her heart racing.
"Wha...what just happened?" she asked herself. She slowly stood up and gathered some clean clothes before walking into the bathroom. Before turning on the tap she placed her clothes on the counter top, catching a glance at her reflection. She stared at herself. She was an exact replica of her mom, except for her eyes which were of her fathers. She noticed that she had changed since those few days past his death. Her usual bright, hazel eyes were dull and grey. She wasn't always like this, she used to be care free, until her mom died leaving her hating God, and her exsitance. Since her dad died she didn't know what to do, but keep on living even if she wanted to die. A few days ago she was getting depressed a little more easily, but things would cheer her up. At the moment she was more confused than anything. She kept staring at the ghost of herself in the mirror before she couldn't take it anymore. Slowly, she started to fumble with the handles trying to make the water just right, before stripping of her clothes and stepping in. She leaned up against the shower wall and sighed. Deep in thought she grabbed her shampoo bottled and dumped some out into the palm of her hand. Slowly, she lathered it in her hair before rinsing it out. She repeated this another time before putting some conditioner in her hair. Once her hair was completely rid of shampoo and conditioner, she leaned up against the porcelain wall, before sliding down into a sitting position. She brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. She sat there in the shower letting the warm water wash over her. The water started to turn cold, stinging her back. She sighed and stood up and turned off the tap, before exiting the stall. She grabbed a towel and quickly dried off. Amanda placed the towel on the porcelain counter before quickly getting dressed. She walked out of the bathroom and across the hall into her room, only to releazise that it was being prepped for painting. Some of the furniture had been moved out and was in the hall. She turned on her heels and started down the stairs. The tile floor was cold underneath her bare feet, as she made her way into the livingroom. To her dismay Joey was in the room, she didn't want to talk to him after what had happened some twenty minutes earlier. She looked over into the corner of the room to find Adrienne perched in a chair, reading The Catcher in the Rye. Amanda walked over to the chair and knelt down beside it. She placed her head against the armrest, disturbing Adrienne.
"What's wrong, dear? Are you feeling okay?" the older woman asked setting down the book after marking her page, and placing her hand to her adopted daughter's forehead. The younger girl nodded her head 'yes' and looked up at her.
"Then what's wrong?"
"I miss my mommy and daddy," Amanda whispered as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Oh you poor thing!" Adrienne exclaimed as she got out of the chair and embraced the young girl in a comforting hug. With a little difficulty, she lifted her up and sat back down in the chair, rubbing her back soothingly. Amanda continued to sob in Adrienne's shirt as Joey watched sorrowfully.
Billie Joe came down the stairs looking for the two oldest of the children to help paint. He heard sobbing in the other room and quickly rushed in. His eyes found the sight of his wife, Adrienne comforting his new adopted daughter.
"What happened?" he asked as the other two band members of Green Day joined the room.
'She's missing her parents,' Adrienne mouthed. Billie nodded his head and went over to help. He wrapped his arms around his wife and Amanda. The young girl shifted around in the older woman's grip and turned to face her father. She flung her arms around his neck and continued to sob. Billie sat back on the ground and kissed Amanda's temple, slowly rocking her back and forth. Tre slowly walked over to the two and knelt down beside them. He started to rub Amanda's back, soothingly just as Adrienne had done a few moments before. He couldn't stand to see her like this. Mike had gotten a box of tissues and brought it into the room. He set it down next to the three and sat down next to Joey. He looked at the three and then put his arm around Joey who was looking teary himself. They all watched as the young girl began to deteriate right before their very eyes.
Amanda felt the soft sunlight hit her face. She let out a groan and rolled over onto her other side. She pulled the blankets over her head, trying to fillter out the light.
