Shit Happens, chapter 1
As time went on and I got older, I realized how bad my life was. My parents were on the verge of divorce, we were in debt, ever since my brother started dating that new girl, he's like a different person, and last but definitely not least, my parents were always fighting and took it out on me and my brothers.
Luckily, I always had me Green Day CD's with me.
As I listened, I would see how the lyrics sort of related to my life.
Just when I thought my llife couldn't get any worse and I was about to run away to fufill my dream of becoming a celeb, I got a phone call one day.
"Hello, may I please talk to Ms. Shelby Magee?" the man said.
"This is she," I said.
As it turned out, the man's name was Joe Kenard. He was a talent agent for Reprise Records and he had heard my friends and mine band (Beautiful Treason) play at the DarkRoom last week and he loved it. He wanted us to come down to Oakland to play in front of Rob Cavallo! I literally screamed into the phone! I was so excited!
I told him "thank you," about a million and one times and hung up the phone to call Brittany. I told her what had happened and she screamed, too. I almost went deaf! She had been drinking milk and it came out of her nose.
I ran to tell my parents, but, as it turned out, they had been fighting. I decided to leave them alone and tell them later.
It was over dinner. My mom was eating green beans and my dad chugging down his glass of Coke.
"So," I said, "I got a phone call today from a guy named Joe Kenard." My mom put down her fork and said, "Who?"
"Joe Kenard," I said," He's a talent agent from Reprise Records. He heard Beautiful Treason last week and wants us to go to Oakland to play in front of Rob Cavallo."
"Wait," Kenny (my older brother) said,"Rob Cavallo. The producer for Green Day?"
"Yeah."
"Whoah."
"Jealous?"
"Maybe..."
There was a long silence then Kenny put down his fork and said, "That's totally unfair! Phat Ninja Karoke has been a band for longer than yours! You get to play in front of [b]Rob Cavallo[b] and you've only been a band for a year?!"
"Kenny! Don't freak out! We're just [b]way[b] better than you!"
My mom burst in.
"Stop! Shelby, do you really want to go throught with this and are you [b]sure[b] that this Joe Kenard guy is for real?"
I immediately said, " Yeah, I'm sure. I even looked him up on the Internet and he's [b]really[b] a talent agent for Reprise Records!"
"Alright," my dad said, finally stepping in, "I have heard Beautiful Treason play and I think you are amazing. But, I have also heard Kenny's band play. You're good, too. Now, if Shelby's band was good enough to be caught by the eye of a [b]real[b] talent scout, I think she should be allowed to go if she really wants to."
In my mind, I was screaming "YES YES YES!!" I knew my dad would come in the save for me. He was cool like that. My mom, though, was a [i]little[i] harder to crack. She was still uneasy about me going all the way to Oakland, California by myself. I had reminded her atleast a billion times that I would be with my friends and that [b]nothing[b] would happen to us. She finally said "yes," and I called Joe to tell him that I had finally got the "okay" from my parents.
"Great!" he said. He wanted us to come down in July. That was the only time Rob was open. It was a month away! I could barely wait!
