A7X, chapter 1
I sat there by myself. The cold night winds kept me up. I kept wondering what was gonna happen to me now. There was nowhere to go, with no one to help me. I felt so alone. My whole family was murdered and the people who murdered them took me far away! Somehow I'd managed to escape before they hurt me. I didn't know where I was, but I'd been running for a very long time; at least 6 days. I'd been hiding in this abandoned place for a day or so...at least I thought it was abandoned. I'd been sitting on a curb for 2 hours or so and I hadn't seen one sight of movement. Not even a bird flying. This place was a hell hole. It was kinda scary, and I called it the city of evil.
It was completely silent. I had a strange feeling that someone was watching me. Then the winds picked up. It started howling at me. It was also getting colder and my heart started beating faster. I was scared. All of a sudden I heard footsteps in the empty streets. My heart stopped beating. My head started hurting. I thought they'd found me! I sat quiet, hoping they didn't see me in the dark. Then in the shadows of the night I could see a man coming my way. Just one man in his early 20s, I predicted. He was tall. It wasn't the people who took me and killed my family, but then who was this guy?
"Who are you!?" I demanded, still sitting on the curb. He looked down at me.
"Who are you?! What are you doing all the way down there?" he asked. I got up.
"None of your business! Tell me who you are! If you've come to take me away I'm not going! I'll hurt you!" I shouted; making a fist.
"What are you talking about? I'm not here to hurt you, I'm just on my way to the bar down there. It's a nice day to walk." I lowered my fist a little. "I'm sorry, um, I'm Devin." I said.
"I've been around here for a few days. I thought this place was abandoned...you're the first person I saw. That's why I got suspicious. I didn't know there was a bar here. No one lives here! How can that be?!" I then added.
"No one lives on this side of the neighborhood. It's forbidden. Long story. A few blocks down there's a bar and on the other side of it is where everyone lives. I live close to here, so me and my band go down to the bar every Friday." he said.
"Why were you walking here if it's forbidden?" I asked suspiciously.
"It's the shortest way to get there. I don't mind a little time to myself." he replied.
"What's your name?" I asked him, remembering that I still hadn't gotten his name.
"Oh sorry! I'm Jimmy, but call me the Rev." he answered.
"The Rev?!". I looked at him.
"Yeah, my band, we all have little nick-names, you see?" he said.
I nodded. "So why exactly are you here? Don't you have a home? A family to be with?" he asked. I bit my lip hard trying not to cry. At first I didn't do anything. He just eyed me, waiting. Then I finally got the courage to tell him everything, I mean everything. I just needed to tell someone. When I was finished he just sat there. Speechless, jaw slightly dropped. I couldn't hold it in any longer and I burst into tears.
"I'm so sorry..." he finally said. He wrapped his arms around me for comfort. I just stood there sobbing. I couldn't stop.
"Come with me and we'll help you. Please, let me try." The Rev suggested. I thought about this for a moment. I did need help, but what if he was one of those people? I didn't know what to think. I guess he knew what I was thinking because he said, "Please, I'm not one of those guys. I swear. Believe me!".
"I--ok..." I said, uncertain at first. I needed all the help I could get.
"Great! Come with me to the bar, you can meet everyone." he told me.
"Ok!" I said. I slowly stopped crying, following him down the road. We walked a few blocks of silence.
"Two more blocks left!" he finally said, breaking the silence,
"Come on!" he then exclaimed, grabbing my hand and starting to run with me. I was so glad I had someone I could depend on; the Rev was the only friend I'd had in weeks. I did kind of feel uncomfortable holding someone's hand I had just met, though. But right now, I wasn't worried about that. A little ways on I saw a small building with the words 'JOE'S' in red letters above it. I figured it was the bar. We slowed to a walk again.
"We're here!" the Rev said pointing to it.
"Great!" I said, panting from all the running. We walked up to the place. It looked old and one of the windows was broken. I wondered if this had anything to do with that forbidden stuff because when we walked around to the entrance the other side was new and clean.
We walked in. It was amazing on the inside. I'd never really been in a bar before. Not a real one, at least. I could smell a strong scent of cigarette smoke. It made me think of my mom. She always smoked. There were about 6 pool tables. All of them were full with kinda creepy looking people, drinking beer and smoking cigars and cigarettes. Lights hung from the ceiling while music was blasting in the background.
"This way." the Rev said, pointing to a bar counter. There, where he pointed, sat a bunch of guys. I was the only girl in there, except for one of the bartenders. Still holding my hand, the Rev led me to four guys who were talking.
"Hey, guys!" the Rev called.
"Hey! How's it going!?" one of the four said.
"What took so long?" another one asked, "And who's that?!". They all looked down at me, except for the Rev. I felt so small. They were all so tall. And I was very short for my age. The Rev let go of my hand and opened his mouth to speak when the lady bartender interrupted.
"How old are you!?" she asked; she too was looking down at me.
"Fourteen." I said, not really thinking at all.
"You can't be around here! You're too young. Out! Now!" she said pointing to the door.
"But I..." I started.
"Now!" she repeated. I looked at the Rev. He wasn't sure what to do.
"Come on." he muttered to me and the four guys. I followed him out the door. I looked back. One of the guys hesitated with a 'what-is-he-talking-about?' look on his face. The one next to him shrugged as they all followed me and the Rev. When we got outside, the Rev explained everything to them. Then he introduced them to me.
There was Zacky Vengeance; he had black and purple hair and had a black shirt on. Then there was Johnny Christ; he was kinda short and had black and blonde hair. Synyster Gates and Matt Shadows were the last to be introduced. Matt Shadows had slicked back, dark, brown, hair, and Synyster Gates was wearing a leather vest and a black hat with medium long, black hair.
It was completely silent. I had a strange feeling that someone was watching me. Then the winds picked up. It started howling at me. It was also getting colder and my heart started beating faster.
