Billie and Amanda, chapter 10

6:00 that night

"DING DONG!" the door bell chimed.

"Come'on in, I'll be right down," Amanda yelled from upstairs. Mike walked in and stood nervously waiting by the front door.
After a few minutes he yelled," Amanda are you done yet, we really need to leave, everyone's waiting for us at-" but he stopped mid sentence.
"Holy crap-" he whispered, watching Amanda come down the staircase towards Mike. Mike just stared, open mouthed, eyes wide open. She looked beautiful. Amanda was wearing a short, black, slinky dress. It was low cut(not a slutty low cut, just low cut) and layered on the bottom. Her hair was slightly curly and black, flowing over her shoulders. She had on a black pair of heels and silver hoop earrings. She hadn't put on a lot of eyeliner, like usual, a little mascara, a little eye shadow, some gloss, and a tiny bit of blush. She looked much more girly than usual.

"W-wow," Mike was barely able to stutter out. As she walked to him, he took her hand and slowly spun her around.
"You look great," Mike said. He noticed Amanda smiling at him, so he looked down and blushed.
"Hey," Amanda said, putting her hand on his chin and raising his head.
"Thanks, you look amazing too," Amanda said, looking straight into his blue eyes. Mike was wearing a white suit, a tie with bass guitars all over it, and dress shoes. His hair was blonde and slicked back. Amanda had to admit-he looked hot, extremely hot. She put her hand on his chest and they leaned together for a quick kiss. Immediately, Amanda thought of Billie. His kiss. It was-well, amazing. NO! Stop! Stop thinking about Billie, she thought to herself, you're with Mike-M-I-K-E, not Billie. Amanda pulled away from Mike's soft kiss. Mike looked down and blushed. When he looked up, Amanda could see he was smiling.

"Ready to go ,mademoiselle?" he asked politely, opening the door for Amanda and taking her hand.
"Let's go!" Amanda said, a little nervous, a little scared, but mostly excited-and happy, to be here with Mike.

Mike stopped the car in front a very grand restaurant. It was silent for a few minutes.

"Are you sure you can do this-I mean-you don't have to face him if you don't want to," Mike said, referring to Billie.
"No, I'll have to face him sometime, it's better sooner than later," Amanda said with a sigh.
"Alright, well, I just want you to know that I'm here for you-OK?" Mike said, taking Amanda's hand into his own.
"Thanks, Mike, that's really sweet," Amanda said.
"Well, let's go," Mike said. They got out of the car and walked toward the restaurant. They got to the front where a man was standing.
"Name?" he asked.
"Uh, our reservations should be under Van Gough," Mike said.
"Van Gough?" Amanda asked, a little confused.
"Uh yeah, I'm Van Gough ,Billie's Fink, and Tre's The Snoo, " Mike said with a chuckle. Amanda couldn't help but laugh. They walked forward and saw Tre, Kaely, Billie, and a some girl- Amanda guessed it was Rachael.
"Ready?" Mike asked nicely, noticing the look in her eyes.
"Yeah, let's go," Amanda said. Mike took her hand and they walked over to the table. When they got there, Rachael was the first to speak.

"Oh my freaking gosh!" she squealed, getting up to shake Amanda's hand "you must be uh-Ashley, right?" she said to Amanda.
"Actually it's Amanda," she corrected her.
"Whatever," she said, flipping her straight blonde hair back," same difference."
Amanda forced a weak smile. Billie thought she could be friends with this-this preppy bitch, she thought to herself? Rachael was wearing glitter eye shadow, pink blush and lip gloss, mascara, and pink nail polish. Ew. Gross. Pink. She was a pink puffball. What did Billie see in her anyway?

Mike and she said hi to Kaely and Tre who both had green hair(Tre had his spiked up and green on the tips and Kaely had the bottom portion of her dyed green). Kaely was wearing a green polka dotted dress and fishnets. Amanda had to admit-she had a style of her own. Then she saw Billie. Billie was staring at her. He looked hypnotized. His mouth was slightly open and he was just staring at Amanda. He looked a little hurt, like he didn't want Amanda and Mike to be holding hands. Mike didn't notice, but Amanda sure did. Billie saw that Amanda was looking at him, so he looked away.

"Hey," Amanda said to everyone, and she and Mike took their seats. Rachel was busy examining the whole right side of the menu.

A waiter appeared, and speaking in a French accent he asked," What will you be having today?"

Billie opened his mouth to speak but Rachael started talking right away, in her high, preppy voice.

"Yeah, OK, like, um, we'll take 2 orders of that vegetarian thingy and we'll like, have 2 iced teas, 'kay?" she said. Tre snorted, Mike coughed to hide a laugh, and Kaely and Amanda exchanged looks. Billie slumped back in his chair. Apparently, Rachael had just ordered for Billie.

"Do you want me to order for you too, love?" Kaely asked Tre, trying not to laugh. Tre looked at her like she was insane. Everyone laughed, except Billie and Rachael, who didn't catch the joke.

Everyone else ordered separately, and the waiter left to fill the order. Billie hadn't spoken one word to Amanda, and as far as she was concerned, he really didn't have to talk to her at all. Amanda kept seeing Billie looking at her, but whenever she looked over, he would look away. It was frustrating, really.

"I'll be right back," Amanda said, getting up and heading towards the restroom. When she finally found it, she walked over to the sink. She didn't really need to go to the bathroom, she just wanted to leave an awkward situation. She opened her purse and dug for her eyeliner. I might as well fix my make-up while I'm in here, she thought. Amanda leaned over and looked into the mirror, while applying the eyeliner. She heard someone walking in and she turned around and saw Rachael.

"Hey," Amanda said nicely to her. She didn't know why she was being nice, she was usually a bitch to preps like this, but she was Billie's girlfriend after all-her thoughts were interrupted by Rachael voice.

"So you like Billie?" she asked, leaning over to fix her lip gloss. That was the last thing Amanda thought would be coming out of her mouth.
"Huh?" Amanda asked, turning around to face her. Rachael sighed dramatically.
"Look, I know you and Billie kind of like, went out for a while, and I know you saved his life and everything, 'kay?" she said, in her increasingly annoying voice.
"Um, you know this-how?" Amanda asked, a little angry.
"Billie told me," Rachael said, shrugging. Amanda raised her eyebrows and went back to putting on her eyeliner. It was silent for a while as each girl fixed her make-up. Rachael finished first, put her make-up in her purse and was about to walk out when she turned around in her tracks.
"You must feel like some sort of hero-huh?" Rachael said, meanly.
"Ex-excuse me?" Amanda asked, shocked.
"Well, I mean you like, saved my boyfriend's life," Rachael said.
"Um, yeah so what, you should be thanking me, bitch," Amanda lost it. Rachael scoffed.
"Yeah whatever," Rachael said putting her hand up," just don't even try pulling any fast ones, m'kay?" she said to Amanda in her fake voice.
"What?" Amanda said.
"Let me put it simply for you. Billie. Is. Mine. Back. Off." Rachael said. Amanda was about to strangle her. She didn't give a shit about her or Billie any longer. She took a step forward and raised her fist-just then, Kaely walked in.
"What the fuck is taking you two so long?" Kaely saw Amanda's fist raised, midair. She ran over and stepped between the two. Rachael turned on her heel and walked out.
"Bye ladies," she called back.
"God, that fucking prep whore, I was ready to sock some of her shit up her ass, God that bitch-" Amanda was cut off by Kaely.
"Look, you need to calm down, you don't want Billie to know you two hate each other, it would break his heart. And I can bet you anything she acts like a cute, little, sweetheart in front of Billie, so she'll say you two are the best of friends," Kaely explained. It was silent for a while as they walked out the bathroom.

"Fine, two can play that game," Amanda said quietly, so quietly, that no one heard, not even Kaely.

The waiter placed the food down on the table. Everything looked great, everything except Billie's and Rachael's food, that is. Everyone started eating, except Billie, who was trying to figure out what the hell was on his plate. It was pretty funny. After a while Amanda looked up and saw Billie and Rachael flirting. She was playing with his hair, and so on. It was disgusting. Amanda got up.

"Where ya going, Amanda," Mike asked.
"Outside, I need a smoke I think," Amanda replied. She didn't usually smoke, just sometimes-to relax. She made her way out the back, into the courtyard. She opened her purse, took out a cigarette, and lit it. She just stood there, staring at the sky, smoking.

"Hey," she turned around to see Billie standing there.
"Oh, it's just you-you scared me," Amanda said, putting a hand to her chest.
"Yeah, sorry," Billie said. It was silent for a while as they both smoked.
"So, what's with you and Mike?" Billie finally asked. Amanda knew he had been waiting all night to say that.
"Uh, honestly? I really, don't know." Then Amanda got a thought. An evil thought. She could use Mike to make Billie jealous. No. But that wasn't right. Oh, well, just this once.
"Hmm, well, he's really sweet and nice, and I like him a lot. I hope he asks me to be his girlfriend," Amanda said. She looked over at Billie and saw pain in his eyes. He looked extremely hurt. Amanda felt really bad for using Mike like that. I'll never do that again, she thought to herself. They stood there smoking, for another couple of minutes. Amanda stole a look over at Billie and saw he was crying. One single tear was running down his cheek. Billie looked over at Amanda and saw she was looking at him. Billie took a deep breath and threw his cigarette on the floor, and wiped his eyes with his sleeve.

"Fuck this," he said, walking away.
"W-wait!" Amanda stuttered out.
"Where the hell are you going?" she called after him. Billie didn't turn around. He just kept walking to his car, not looking back. Amanda didn't even try to stop him. She just watched the car pull out and drive away, on the winding road.

Amanda didn't know what to do. Should she go after him, or should she just let him go? Why the hell does he have to make my life so complicated, she thought. But, Amanda, being the nice girl she was, turned right around and ran into the restaurant.

When she got inside, she saw Tre flinging pieces of meat at a screaming Rachael.

"Ew, like, get that away from me!" she squealed," I'm a vegetarian, you know!"
Tre just smiled and kept flinging food at her. Mike and Kaely were engaged in a very serious conversation, it looked like. Once Amanda neared them, she could hear the conversation.

"So what kind of bass you have?" Mike asked Kaely. Figures, they both play bass in a band. Amanda looked over to see Rachael squealing again. It was so funny, she could've watched all day. But she had to talk to Mike. He was Billie's best friend, he should know where he was-right?

"Mike," Amanda whispered, poking him in the shoulder," can I talk to you real quick?"
"Uh, yeah sure," said Mike, smiling. People were starting to turn around and give Tre and Rachael annoyed looks.
"Come'on," said Amanda, stepping outside with Mike.
"So?" Mike asked," what do you need?"
"Well, Billie and I were outside taking a smoke, and he started crying, and he got in his car and left," Amanda sputtered," do ya know where he went, maybe?"
Mike looked like he was thinking, really thinking. Then he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Shit," he said simply," shit."
"What's wrong?" Amanda said, alarmed.
"It's September," Mike said.
"Wh-" she began, but Mike cut her off.
"His dad, he died in September, on this exact day, oh my god, I can't believe I forgot... " Mike said. Amanda knew where he was. Her little sister's death had brought her to the same place, many times before. It was a place of death, of coldness, of darkness. At the same time however, it was a place of calmness and serenity. She was positive he was there. Mike was still muttering when she interrupted him.

"Give me your car keys," she ordered.
"What?" Mike asked confused.
"Trust me, I know where he is," Amanda said, looking into his blue eyes.
"Alright," Mike shrugged, handing her a key ring. Amanda turned to leave, but stopped and turned around.
"I'm sorry, I just, I have to make sure he doesn't get hurt... " Amanda trailed off. Mike just leaned in and gave her a soft kiss. This time however, she didn't think of Billie as she kissed Mike. Amanda pulled away and smiled.
"Bye," she said, looking into his eyes one last time. She turned around and sprinted into the car. She put the keys in the ignition and whispered," I'm coming Billie, hold on."
