Billie and Amanda, chapter 8
*One Week Later*
Amanda lay on the hospital bed, thinking. She was waiting for Kaely to come so she could help her pack up and drive her home. The boys were coming home tomorrow after that last show in Arizona. Tre and Kaely were going steady now and she and Billie were... well... Billie hadn't asked her to be his girlfriend, but she hoped he would-soon.
Amanda got up and walked over to the mirror near the bed. She turned around and pulled off her shirt. She looked back into the mirror and remembered the day after Billie left.
*Flashback*
"I'm sorry, dear, but you'll have that scar on your back for the rest of your life," the nurse softly spoke to her. It had been silent for a while as Amanda observed her back.
"You know it's a horrible burn and-well-you know, you're lucky to have made it out alive," the nurse told Amanda.
"I know," Amanda said.
*End of flashback*
Amanda pulled her shirt back on and sat down on the bed. She couldn't wait until Billie came home tomorrow. Just then Kaely rammed through the door.
"I'm here!" Kaely sang.
"About time! It took you forever!" Amanda said, getting up and giving her a hug.
"Chill, girl, come' on let's go," Kaely said, grabbing Amanda's things and walking out the door. Amanda slowly walked out after her.
*
I know that things are getting tougher
When you can't get the top off from the bottom of the barrel.
Wide open road of my future now... It's looking fucking narrow!
The song blasted through Kaely's car.
"You know, I haven't heard this song since the night I met Billie, God I miss him," Amanda said.
"Well, duh, you dumbass, we played the song," Kaely said, laughing at her.
"Ha Ha, ya I know that," Amanda said sarcastically.
*
"You going to be OK by yourself?" Kaely asked, pulling up to Amanda's driveway. Amanda read the clock in the car-10: 30 pm.
"Uh, ya I'll be fine," Amanda said, "thanks." Kaely was seriously the best friend she had.
Amanda stepped out of the car and walked to the door. She pushed the key in, heard the "click", and walked in. Amanda walked over to the TV and sat down on the couch. She turned the TV on and flipped to MTV. The Ramones were on. She watched for a while, but slowly fell asleep...
*
"DING-DONG!" the doorbell chimed. Amanda awoke, startled.
"What the-?" Amanda sat up, rubbing her eyes. As she walked over to the door, she read 1:48am on the clock.
"Now who in the world could that-," Amanda began opening the door. She wasn't expecting anyone, not this late, or should I say early? She opened the door to find a nervous looking Mike at the door.
"Um, hi," Mike began nervously.
"Hi," Amanda said, raising her eyebrows," is something wrong?"
"Oh, no! Nothing, everything's fine," he said looking down.
"I just-I, can I come in?" Mike asked, shyly.
"Oh, of course, I'm sorry," Amanda said, slightly confused," I just wasn't expecting anyone."
"Erm, yeah, sorry for waking you up," Mike said, walking in. He stopped and looked around.
"Nice place," he said.
"Uh, thanks," Amanda replied. Amanda walked over to the living room, Mike following.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Amanda asked politely.
"Uh, no thanks, you, uh, better sit down," Mike said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. They both sat down on the couch, opposite from each other.
"Uh, Mike?" Amanda asked.
"Yeah?" he said looking up.
"Um, why are you here, I mean, weren't you guys supposed to get here tomorrow?" Amanda asked.
"Oh, yeah, we got back early."
"Then, where's Billie?"
"He uh, he-" Mike sighed.
"Shit this is hard to say but I'll just tell you, he uh, he, he has a girlfriend," Mike blurted out.
"A-a girlfriend?" Amanda said, confused.
"Yeah, her name's Rachel, he met her at one of our gigs-" Mike looked up to see anger in Amanda's eyes.
"What! After all I did for him, that son of a bitch, I'll kill him I swear-" Amanda got up and started walking towards the door. A pair of hands found their way around her waist and pulled her back.
"No, listen, you can't. Billie can't know I told you. He made me promise that I wouldn't tell you. Its just that-I can't let you get hurt," Mike said softly wiping Amanda's tears. He pulled her into a hug. Amanda looked up and they were looking into each other's eyes.
"Mike," she said, pushing him away," this isn't right, you have a girlfriend and-"
"She broke up with me, according to her I was spending too much time with the band," Mike said angrily.
"Oh I'm sorry," Amanda said, giving him a hug. Mike put his hand on her cheek and kissed her softly.
"Look, Billie will be over tomorrow to tell you, and we're all going out for dinner that night, OK?" he told her.
"Alright, I won't say anything," Amanda said. She felt safe in his strong arms. He released her from the hug and walked to the door and was about to walk out when he turned around.
"Hey, be my date, for tomorrow night?" he shyly asked.
"Sure," Amanda said. Mike smiled and walked out the door.
Amanda walked back to the couch and collapsed on it, crying herself to sleep.
