So Long and Goodnight, chapter 1

Around eighteen years back, when I was only sixteen, I had a boyfriend named Billie Joe. We both went to Pinole High School and we had been going out ever since we first met, like, when we were in eighth grade.

He was the best boyfriend I ever had. He loved me so much and I loved him too. He also had this cool band called Sweet Children, which he formed with his friends Mike and Al.

So, it was Billie's sixteenth birthday and he got his driving license. He promised to pick me up for our first date with he driving the car.

"Hey babe," was what he said when I opened my house door for him on 7 pm.

Without saying or doing anything else, he kissed me and I kissed him back. Well, I know perfectly that we were at my house and my parents were upstairs, but I didn't know why. And we started making out for like, half an hour, without anybody knowing it. Which was the most perfect make out I ever did before.

He finally pulled away and he pulled my hands and ran to his car, which had been waiting for a long time.

He did not bring me to any luxurious restaurant or having a candle light dinner or whatsoever, instead, he brought me to the beach. The nice beach. And he bought me hotdogs, hamburgers and french fries, and coke, of course.

We sat at a hidden place in the beach, our favourite spot. We ate our perfect dinner there, laughing and chatting.

"Billie, I have something for you," I told him, after we finished our dinner.

He smiled and waited for me silently as I took his present.

I gave the present to him. "Can I open it?" he asked.

"Sure," I nodded.

I watched him opening the wrappers and he finally opened the box. He found the present there.

"What is this?" he asked me, waving a piece of paper in front of me.

"I don't really know what to give on your birthday, so I just give that check and let you buy a new guitar. We can go to a music shop tomorrow and find the new guitar for you," I explained to him.

He grinned. "It's okay actually, if you don't give me anything. This is enough for me."

And he leaned over and kissed me all over again.

I was very happy that night. It was the most perfect night.

The next day, he picked me up again and we went to his favourite instruments shop, with Mike.

He went to look for the shop owner, leaving Mike and me at the showroom, while he go to the office.

"What happened to you and Billie yesterday?" Mike asked.

"Nothing. Why?"

"He seems happier."

"Of course. He's getting a new guitar."

"Yeah must be."

I must admit it, it's pretty strange. Mike was talking nonsense. Really, I don't get what he was saying.

Then Billie came back with the shop owner, Joe.

"Sam, this is Joe," Billie introduced the man to me.

"Hi Joe," I said and shook his hand.

He smiled. "Okay then. I've got a new guitar and you need to see it, Billie."

"Okay. Come on, you guys," Billie said.

I followed Joe and Billie to a place. There, I could see lots and lots of guitar, and all of them seemed quite expensive.

"This one, Billie," Joe said, pointing to a white guitar.

"Oh, nice."

Billie took the guitar and examined it carefully. Then he looked at Mike.

"What do you think, Mike?" he asked.

Mike nodded. "It's nice."

"Okay. I'll take this, Joe. Wait.. Where the hell is the check? Oh okay, it's here."

Joe went to the cashier, and we followed him. So, Billie had chosen his birthday party, a new white guitar.

After that, we parted with Mike and we went for a movie. Actually Billie was not that kind of movie-watching type but because he wanted to thank me, he asked me to see a movie.

The movie was a horror movie, but I did not feel frightened a bit.

After the movie, Billie brought me home. When we arrived, as usual we stood at my front porch, where he usually kissed me good night.

I closed my eyes and waited for him to kiss me. For a long time.

Then I opened my eyes again, seeing that Billie did not move a bit.

"So?" I asked him.

"Sam. There's something I need to tell you."

Uh-oh. There must be something wrong. He looked damn serious.

"I want a break up."

"WHAT? What the hell are you talking about? What did I do to you? I've never done anything wrong! I love you, Billie, remember that," I screamed.

He shook his head. "You've never done anything wrong. I love you too, Sam. But.."

"But what? Okay. That's it. We're over."

I pulled myself away from his arms then went inside to my house.

"Sam! Sam! Wait! We need to talk!" Billie shouted.

I didn't care. "Bastard," I muttered under my breath.

I love him so much, but then he dumped me.
