Maria's Journey, chapter 1
I looked at him. My eyes were filled with tears. How could he be such an asshole. "That's fine with me!" I said and punched in his pretty little face. He fell to the ground, but I didn't care. I just walked away with tears on my cheeks and a broken heart.
I packed my things down in a suitcase. I was leaving. I couldn't be here anymore. Everybody hated me now. Even my dogs hated me. I stole some money from my mothers wallet and went out into the night. I switched my Mp3 player on and started listening to Hitchin' a Ride as I did just that. Tried to hitch a ride, but nobody stopped. Who would want to pick up a 15 year old girl with dirty clothes and messy hair. I sat down on the sidewalk. Waiting for somebody to stop and pick me up. And just as Hitching a ride was done and Boulevard of Broken Dreams started, a car stopped right in front of me. The car looked awfully familiar. But I just couldn't place it. The door opened and a man with black hair stepped out of it. He also looked very familiar. "Hey, where are you heading?" he said.
I had heard his voice somewhere before, but I couldn't place it. I was tired and sad. And the darkness covered his face.
"Anywhere" I answered and looked at him. He came one step closer to me and reached his hand out to shake mine.
"You got yourself a deal!" he said and laughed.
I took my suitcase into the car and sat next to it in the backseat with a strange man who was looking at me. Also he looked awfully familiar.
"We're going to California, it's a long drive, but you're welcome to join us!" the man with the black hair said. I nodded.
I knew it was a stupid thing to do. For all I knew, these three guys could be perverts, maniacs, murders or something worse. But I didn't care anymore.
"What's your name, kid?" the guy who was driving said. I looked at angry at him in the mirror. I HATE when people call me kid!
"My name is Maria, and I'm not a kid!" I answered as calm as I could. "Who are you guys?"
A few seconds went before they answered. "I'm Billie Joe!" the black haired guy said. "This is Mike driving, and the weirdo in the back with you is Tre."
It took me a few minutes to realize that I was staring at Billie with my mouth open. I closed it. I was trying to say something, but not a word came out of my mouth. I started to breath faster and faster and then suddenly, everything went black.
"Hey, kid? Maria? Are you alright?" Mike's voice woke me up. I stared back at the three guys that I had loved and adored since I was a little girl. They looked at me and seemed pretty nervous. I apologised for me passing out and looked out of the window. This was so unreal. Me in a car with the three guys I had had a crush on for ages.
"I wanna sit in the front!" Tre complained. Mike was the only one who was not drunk and then Tre had to switch places with Billie. He looked at me with curious green eyes.
"So, what's your story?" he asked after a while. "You are running away right?"
I looked down at my feet and then stared out the window. Why should I tell him?
"My brother slept with my boyfriend. And my boyfriend said that I was so easy to fool. So I took some spray paint and painted on his door "Who's the fool now?" and smashed his and my brothers room. Now everybody hates me. They say I overreacted and that I have anger issues." I looked Billie Joe right into his amazingly green eyes. He looked back, but he only looked sad. I felt embarrassed and looked out the window again.
Trees and cars passed the window and I was getting more sleepy for every time. Tre wouldn't shut up. He talked non-stop about how many girls he had had sex with. Billie Joe had fallen asleep in the other end of the car. I looked at him and smiled. How could this be possible. I tapped Mike on the shoulder and said: "Good luck all alone with Tre!" and then I fell asleep.
When I woke up I had Billie's arm around my shoulders. He smelled like alcohol. I looked up into his face.
"Good morning!" he said happily. It was a good feeling to have his arms around me. It made me feel safe and warm. I blushed. The man that I had a crush on was holding around me. I blushed even more. I think my whole face turned red. Billie let go of me. "Sorry 'bout that! You looked so cold when you were sleeping."
I smiled at him. He was so nice.
Tre had passed out in the front seat with his mouth open and his tongue sticking out. I noticed how cold it really was in the car. It was still night, or it was night again. Billie must have noticed because he put his arms around me again. "Are you feeling warmer?" he whispered in my ear. I nodded. He kissed me on the cheek and on my forehead. I blushed again. I knew he just did it because he was drunk, but I liked it so much.
"Billie?" I said.
"Hmm...?"
"Do you have anymore to drink left?"
