Cool By Name, Not So Much By Association..., chapter 11

I didn't see Joey for a few days after that. I couldn't tell anyone what had happened... It embarrassed me, to be honest. I told myself that I didn't like Joey, but there was always a bit of lust for him left in me after that kiss.

It broke my heart everytime I remembered the look he gave me. He looked like he actually hated me. But I didn't hate him...

Avi and Molly came over after when Dad, Claudia and Frank had gone to the Waterpark. I told them what happened... Well I just told them that I kissed Joey... I didn't go into too many details.

"What?" Avi said, mouth hanging open.

"I knew he liked you!" Molly smiled.

"But the question is...do you like him?" Avi said looking straight into my eyes.

"Well..." I said blushing a crimson shade of red.

The two girls started laughing and screaming. I joined in, enjoying the moment.

"But he hates me!" I sighed, leaning against the end of my bed.

"No he doesn't! He's just licking his wounds," Molly said.

"He'll come back soon. Then you can tell him how you feel!" Avi added.

I stopped her.

"Wait! Tell him! I can't! If we ever got together...I can't even imagine the slagging off we'd get!" I half yelped.

"Well you can't not tell him!" Avi sighed.

"I dunno..." I hesitated.

"Your Dad is having a barbecue tomorrow, isn't he?" Molly said.

"Ya, for the start of the summer," I said.

"Talk to him then! Explain that you didn't want things to go too fast and that you weren't regretting him!" Avi said, as simply as could be.

I thought about it for a few minutes...

"What do I have to lose?"

I tossed and turned in my bed all that night. My mind couldn't rest. All I could think of was what Joey would say to me.

I finally got up at half eight from three and a half hours sleep. I walked sleepily into the kitchen where my Dad and Frank sat in front of some random cartoon. Claudia sat at the counter with her head resting in one hand, the other held a cup of coffee. She was not a morning person. This morning I wasn't either.

She grunted in my general direction. I grunted back and grabbed a cup of coffee. After two sips I felt better instantly. My hair was bugging the hell out of me, so I grabbed a scrunchie and tied it up in a bun.

"You should get something done with that," Claudia said pointing to my greenish head.

"Yes, it's a bit disgraceful, isn't it?" I laughed.

"I'll book you in with my colorist next week." She smiled, feeling a bit better too.

"That'd be great, thanks Claud!" I smiled. She got up and headed back upstairs to get dressed.

"Dad!" I called during a ad break.

"I'm going to go shopping in a bit, ok?"

"Sure," he said walking to the sink with his bowl. "You need some money?"

"Na, I think I'll be ok, but thanks!" I smiled and he kissed the top of my head

I had a little bit of money from my babysitting fund but I had spent most of that on a CD splurge with Mike last week. He was the best out of Green Day to go CD shopping with. Dad had no patience and Billie never looked properly. Plus Mike always bought me coffee afterwards...

As I walked over to Rite Aid at around 12 I realized that I was going shopping for a dress, to impress a guy...I'd never done that before...

Avi worked at the Rite Aid at weekends during the school year and had gotten a Summer Job. I was thinking of working there too after I finished up in Adeline.

She stood at the front door, tapping her foot. Apparently I was late and she was impatient.

"Sorry I'm late! Where's Molly?" I said looking around for her. Brendon wasn't here because he usually spent most of his Summer in his Uncle in Las Vegas.

"She's out with Matt, again!" she sighed.

"What? I regret introducing the two of them now," I said as we walked down to the Boardwalk. Where all the best Vintage and Retro shops were.

"Molly always changes when a guy comes along, but at least I have you now! Brendon is a crappy shopper. He picks the most ugly stuff!" she laughed.

We stopped in front of 'Le Metro' and Avi held out her elbow.

"Let us shop!"

I linked her and laughed.
