Cool By Name, Not So Much By Association..., chapter 15
"RAAAAMMMMMOOOONNNNAAA!" my personal alarm clock, Frankito screamed into my ear three hours later. Adie was picking me up at eight-thirty so I had a hour and a half to get ready.
I rolled over and glared at him. He giggled and skipped out the door. I lay in bed a few minutes and thought of all that had happened. It's weird how one evening can completely change everything.
I wasn't really upset about Joey anymore...if I hadn't seen him and the hobiscuit I never would have gone to the Gilman and met Ryan and well....
I just hoped I wouldn't regret what I'd done with Ryan...
I took a shower to clear my head...it didn't work though. I kept asking myself the same questions.
Did I only sleep with Ryan because I was upset about Joey? Will Ryan call? Do I want him to call? What will Avi and Molly think when I tell them? Am I just a groupie to Ryan?
Some of my questions were answered when I came out and checked my phone. There were three new voicemails in my inbox.
The first was from Adie.
Just ringing to make sure you know I'm collecting you at half eight... you must be still asleep...I'll talk to you when I see you later!
The next was from Avi.
I saw Joey with that Ho-bag Raven, which is so not her real name, last night. Figured that's why you disappeared.... Didn't say anything to your Dad or the others though...give me a call if you're still alive! Byeeeee!!
I laughed. Then the third message started to play and a smile instantly spread across my face.
Hiya Ramona...it's Ryan...in case you didn't know...well...I'm off from work at five and was wondering if you wanted to grab a coffee? If you can't that's fine...well...see you later...or not!
I decided to get dressed before I called anyone. I put on a black shirt with a thin pinstripe going through it and paired it with a A-line black and white checked skirt made of a wolly material and pink Vans. I figured that dress at Adeline was pretty invidualist. I quickly dried my hair and let it down, as it had a nice kink in it. I threw a notebook, pen and some of my sketches in my bag and sat down looking at the phone, trying to muster the courage to ring Ryan. I gave up and called Avi first.
You're alive! What happened to you last night?
I saw 'Raven' and Joey making out in my TV room so I decided to take a walk...I kinda ended up meeting another guy...
What? You serious? How and where?
I ended up at the Gilman and Buichall Dána were playing...I got talking to Ryan, the drummer and we kind of...
What!?!?
Did it....
*silance*
You still there?
When are you finished at Adeline? We need an emergency meeting! Stat!
I'm finished at four thirty...
Come to Kafkas right after! *hangs up*
I put down the phone and sighed... I guess I wouldn't be seeing Ryan later.
Just as I was picking up my phone to call him my phone rang.
Hello?
Hey Ramona, It's Ryan...did you get my message?
Ya, I was just about to call you!
Well, I have to go to practice straight after work, it's kinda sudden.
Oh, right...
But, there's a late showing of 'Some Like It Hot' at the old cinema downtown. It starts at eleven so will I pick you up at half ten? I'll buy you ice cream afterwards...I know a great little place...
That'd be great! Thats one of my favoutite films! I'll meet you there instead, ok?
Oh, alright, see you then!
I hung up looking at the small object in my hand. It was truely a great achievement of man. I grabbed my bag and went downstairs to the kitchen.

To my great surprise Adie, Dad, Claudia, Frank, Jakob and Joey sat around the table. I was most shocked to see Joey. He just gave me a dirty look and went back to his Coco Pops.
"Looking ready for action!" Dad called from the table. I smiled, grabbing the packet of Rice Krispies and a bowl from the counter.
The only seat was left next to Joey. He purposely shifted as far away as possable from me. It kind of hurt I have to say.
I poured milk into the bowl and listened to the popping instead of joining in the conversation. Joey was silent next to me.
"How's your little girlfriend, Joey?" Dad asked, winking at him. Joey rolled his eyes and didn't answer.
"If you had stuck around longer you could've met her Ramona." Dad added. He was really dense.
"I bet she was out with her boyfriend!" Claudia laughed. I blushed a dark shade of red. The whole tables' eye's were staring at me. Dad switched into concerned-parent-mode.
"What's his name?"
There was no way I was getting out of this. I was a crappy liar. I decided to confess.
"Ryan." I felt Joey staring intently at me.
"What age is he?" Dad continued. Fuck! I didn't know.
"Nineteen," I guessed.
"He's too old for you!" Dad said bluntly. Claudia slapped his arm.
"She's sixteen Tré! She's big enough to make up her own mind!" she protested. I really loved my ex-step-Mom right then.
"Is he in college?" Adie asked in interest.
"No, he's a drummer, in Buichaill Dána. They're a huge underground punk band."
"We tried to sign them a few months ago but they said they were holding out..." Adie said.
Dad was fuming in the corner.
"If he's a drummer I know he's no good!" he ranted. I had to laugh.
"Dad, you're a drummer!"
"Exactly! I know what goes through his head, and it ain't pretty!" he raged. Claudia slapped him on the back of his head.
"Can we go now Adie?" I said getting up. She nodded.
"Have a fun day with Jakob and Frankito, Joey," she said kissing the top of his head. He squirmed.
"Bye!" I waved to the kitchen and fowelled Adie to my first day of Adeline St.
