Cool By Name, Not So Much By Association..., chapter 5
Next was science. I saw Avi in the corridor and caught up with her.
"Hey Ramona! I heard what you did to Alan in the corridor! You definitely have balls." I looked at her puzzled and realized she was talking about the jock dude. Coincidence that his name was Alan, huh?
"Please say you have science now!" I said as she passed the door to the lab.
"No, sorry! I have Geography... I'm sure Zach is in there." She smiled and went down the hallway. I took a deep breath in and opened the door. All the preps gave me dirty looks and one guy was about to spit at me before I legged it down to where Zach was sitting.
"You certainly make a good first impression!" He laughed. His forehead was resting on his arms. I sat on the bench in front of him as a guy with black hair in an emo cut was sitting next to him.
"I've been told... Hey!" I said to the guy.
"Hey! I'm Brendon!" He smiled. His teeth were blindingly white.
"Ramona!" I smiled back. I turned around to get out a notebook and pen when Joey came in. I smiled and waved but he just scowled at me and sat up the front. I turned back to Zach and Brendon.
"You know him?" Brendon asked.
"Not really... " I lied. I didn't want anyone to know I was Tre's daughter or any connection with Green Day... yet.
"He doesn't talk to anyone. Poor kid." Pfew! Maybe no one knew who Joey was either...
Just then the teacher came in. She went on for a bit about the experiment we were going to be doing. Then she called the roll.
"Ramona Wright." She called.
"Here!" I smiled. One prep guy looked at me and crossed a finger across his throat. I smiled and gave him the finger when the teacher turned around.
"Now get into groups of three and get the apparatus listed on the board."
I turned to the two guys and Brendon smiled, knowingly at me. Zach kept his head on the table. I got up and started checking in cupboards under the tables. Brendon bent down and whispered in my ear.
"I know who you are... " I stood up quickly and looked him in the eyes.
He nodded with a look on his face.
"Don't worry I won't tell... " He reassured me. My heart stopped pounding. "I only gossip about the people I don't like." He grinned. Brendon seemed all right.
I set up something that kind of looked like what was on the board. I only liked Science because you got to blow up stuff...
Zach eventually sat up and looked at me.
"So, what we doing?" He asked sleepily.
"Glad you decided to join us." Brendon said handing me HCl.
I took a dropper and put some into a beaker.
"Are you sure you should be doing that?" he asked unsure of me.
"Don't worry! But if you're scared put on these." I said throwing a pair of safety goggles at him. He grabbed them and put them on quickly, as if he doubted me. I stuck my tongue out at him and he smiled, for some reason. I put on a pair of safety goggles, myself and Brendon handed me another liquid thing. Zach looked at me scared as I dropped a tiny bit into the acid.
"KABOOM!" There was a little explosion as green liquid flew out of the beaker. The beaker then shattered, glass going everywhere. The three of us ducked under the table. I burst out laughing as the teacher screamed at us. We were covered in green stuff.
"You certainly do make great first impressions Ms.Wright. Three of you to the Principal's Office... NOW!" she raged.
I mumbled insult as we got out.
"That was fun!" Zach laughed.
I looked at him as if he was insane.
"Don't be so worried! Mr.O'Brian wouldn't give out to a fly!" Brendon
For some reason I just started laughing. Zach and Brendon had to nearly carry me to the office as I kept stopping to laugh. I couldn't forget the look on Zach's face as the beaker exploded.
We sat outside the office. I was still laughing. My shoulders were shaking and tears filled my eyes. Brendon got called in first so Zech moved up next to me. He looked at me in disbelief.
I looked over at him and saw his face had a tinge of green and I laughed harder. The receptionist tutted and left to go off and do something else. Zach lifted his hand and brushed some green foam out of my hair. I looked at him suspiciously and he gave me a little smile. I rolled my eyes and started picking at my watch, which was also green.
"So, what's the deal with you and Avi? The two of ye definitely aren't twins..." I said.
"Ya, we're not. I'm ten months older than her." He smiled from under his bleached blonde hair.
I nodded in understandment.
"You're definitely not like anyone I've met before." he said, quietly. It was such a corny line but some how it made me smile. If anyone else had said it I would've told them to put their hand in their pants and forget about it, but Zach seemed different.
I lifted my head just as Brendon came out of the office in a huff. He rolled his eyes at me as he went into the corridor.
"Ms.Wright!" a voice boomed from inside, so I got up and went in.
"You certainly make... interesting first impressions, Ms.Wright." he said sitting low in his chair.
"You don't want to know how many people have told me that today, sir." I joked sitting down.
"Young Brendon just told me all about how it was an accident and he ''couldn't remember who's idea it was'' so I'm letting ye off this time... make sure it doesn't happen again, ok? You don't want detention on your first day." He stopped and I got up.
"You know Mr. B, You're alright! Thanks." I smiled going out of his office. He gave me an amused look.
"Zechariah Smith!" He called and I couldn't help laughing as Zechariah, blushed and went into his office.
"See you at lunch." he mumbled.
