Tre Cool's Retirement Age Job, chapter 1

It was September 2036 and Green Day was at its end. Well, we are not splitting up, but all of us were already 64. How are we going to travel the world while we are 64? So, while Billie Joe and Mike decided to stay in America, I wanted to find a new location. I moved to Asia, and to a small country called Singapore.

Well, though I have money to support me until I die, I wanted to take a job. I was thinking what job would be suitable for me. Then, I have this good idea. In Singapore, all the schools have concert bands, and in the concert bands they have the percussion section. Well, maybe I could teach them! Even though they most probably don't play our music, but it's still something that I like, percussion.

So, I applied to this school, Singapore School. They accepted me almost immediately, seeing my successful career with Green Day.

"You can start teaching next Monday, Mr. Cool," the principal said.

"Oh, don't call me Mr. Cool, sounds a bit funny. Call me Tre or Mr. Tre Cool, with the Tre, please, principal."

"No problem. Thank you very much, Tre."

Well, luckily I don't have tattoos visible in my arms or whatever, so I wouldn't scare the students.

I lived in an apartment; well the apartment was quite big for me myself. Actually, adjusting to Singapore is quite difficult, seeing that it's very different from US. But at least, here, their government is all right, not like that president.

While waiting for Monday, I composed some short songs, like I did back in 1993. One of them was called," French Fries and Burgers". It reminds me of "Pop rocks and Coke"... I miss Billie and Mike, and Joey and Jakob. And Adie too.

Well, Joseph is now a punk star also, with his own band called 'The Grouch' in honor of GD. Jakob is in the band also. I remembered clearly when they first released their album. It was a big hit. I'm the old Uncle Tre is very proud of them.

Even though I'm old now, my hilarious nature is not gone. I still play pranks on people; the latest one is Ashton Kutcher. Everybody's old now, but the memories of me being punk'd by him is not gone either.

I think I may have fun with the teenage kids I will deal with later at the school. Hope they are 'musically inclined'; it'll be easier to teach.

Finally Monday comes. I drove my new BMW car to the school. Well, the car did attract some kids at the school.

I went to the music room, and played some shit at the drums. Then, a guy came in, clearly surprised with what i just played.

"Whoa, man, you're great!" he exclaimed.

I smiled," Are you in the concert band?"

He nodded. "Oh, are you the new percussion instructor Ms Chong was talking about?"

"Yeah, probably."

"So that means you're Tre Cool!" he shouted again.

"Correct! What's your name, dude?" I asked the guy, laughing at his excitement.

Still grinning widely, he replied," Peter. Call me Pete, Mr. Tre Cool."

"Call me Tre, Pete. Okay, let me see what you can play."

I stood up and stand next to the drum set. Pete took his drumsticks and started to play 'American Idiot'.

"You know our songs! Well, it's kind of old songs now," I said.

"Green Day is a great band! So of course I know! I have all the CDs from 1039 smoothed of our slappy hours till the end!" he said proudly.

I smiled," Nice, Pete. 1039 SOSH is very hard to get, even 30 years ago. Well, where's everybody?"

He scratched his head. "I'm not sure. But they must be on the way here."

"Oh ok. Well, your technique is good, and you have the good counting skills, i can see that," I told Pete.

"Oh really? Thanks Tre!" he smiled again.

I must say i like this over-excited guy. He's good and 'musically inclined'.
While waiting for the others, we both talked about Green Day songs. He claimed that the mastered all Green Day songs. Well, i think we'll see if he really can play all. But i think he could play. I hope that the other students are just as enthusiastic as him in studying percussion.
