This Girl Has Gone Far Away, Now She's All Gone, chapter 3
Do I like her? Do I not like her? What's going on!? This doesn't feel normal! Umm... maybe I just hate her? No, that can't be... or am I prejudice towards Japanese people? Nah, that's not possible either, that would be like hating her....
"Umm... Bill?" the girl asked.
Billie Joe jumped, surprised, "Oh, hi umm, no; wait how'd you know my name, anyway?" he asked.
"I heard this guy I saved. He called you 'Two Dollar Bill'. So, I thought maybe you're called Bill. Is your name William?"
"No, my name's Billie, Billie Joe, actually. What about you?'
"Mine's Haushinka, pleasure to meet you, Billie Joe-Sensei."
"Billie Joe WHAT?! My last name's Armstrong, where the hell'd you get the 'sensei' from?" Billie exclaimed, weirded out by hearing his name all messed up.
"Well, in Japan we use these honorific things, so Sensei would mean like you were in this school before me so it's like a measure of respect for you, sorta."
"Wow, that's pretty cool....I think.... wait, did you say you name was Haushinka?"
"Yeah, I did, why?
"Well, it's just that this friend of mine, Mike; by the way he's an awesome guy maybe you two could be friends if you aren't already friends, well, it's just that I think that in computer class or shit he has you talked to each other as part of the exchange student thing. So, are you here for an exchange program?"
"Well, I used to be, but then I did some stuff like graffiti all over the place and like curses were flying out of my mouth. I never had any friends except when I was really little, before school, but then I never saw them again when school started, it's like a prison, I never had any time to do anything else." she said sadly.
"Yeah, I know what you mean, but what about weekends?"
"What?"
"Weekends, you know, like no school Saturdays or Sundays?"
"WHAT!!??? Really? I can't believe it, are you serious!?"
"Fuck yes, I am. What, do you mean to say weekends don't exist in Japan?"
"No, they don't. And exams to get into schools are really hard. Believe me, I'm looking forward to staying here, but I'm not sure Mom and Dad will agree, they think America lessens my opportunities of becoming someone great in life. I don't really care though." She looked angrily at the floor "I don't want my parents to rule my life anymore."
"Wow, you mean you actually go to school EVERY DAY?!!"
"Yeah, and I really don't wanna go back. But I like to draw anime', you know, like Japanese-style drawings."
There was a blank look on Billie's face. "Umm... no, I have no clue what anime' is. Can you show me some?"
"Sure, just let me go get the notebook."
"Alright, I'll wait here."
Haushinka ran off, away from the little room in the nurse's office, and headed to her locker to retrieve her artwork, feeling shocked but pleased that someone actually wanted to see it.
Billie Joe swung his legs back and forth, sitting on the too-tall-for-him hospital-type bed. The movement of his legs caused two small pieces of paper to fall off his pocket and land on the floor. He picked them up.
One was a little pamphlet that had "Some not-so-Sweet Children are...PLAYING LIVE at the Gilman this Sunday night. Come see them and have the Time Of Your Life..."
The other was a phone number with the name 'Addie' on top, surrounded by a heart.
"Oh, holy shit!!!" thought Billie, quickly hurrying to the front office, which was right across from the nurse's office, and he snatched the phone without bothering to tell the secretary why he had to use it (his cell phone was at home). He tried very hard not to get a panic attack as he called Addie's cell phone. She answered within seconds.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Hi! Addie, it's Billie Joe."
"Oh, hi, Billie! What's up and why are you calling me in the middle of class?"
"Well, it's just that I don't feel like we're going anywhere together. It doesn't feel right anymore, so I called to break up."
"You're breaking up? But why Billie? What did I do?"
'You idiot.... Girls can be such numbskulls sometimes.....' thought Billie, but he said "Sorry, sweetie, I gotta break up."
"Oh, fine then, if that's what you want then I'm not gonna be your friend anymore, you little fucking bastard! Don't try talking to me anymore, I hate you. I never wanna see you again! Fuck off and die!" and she hung up on him.
"Well, Romeo, that went smoothly", he thought as he sighed, shaking his head, and ripped up Addie's number and threw it in the trash can.
He went back to his room again and stared at the ceiling as he waited for Haushinka to come back.
"Umm... Bill?" the girl asked.
