What's a Band Like You Doing in a Crappy Place Like This?, chapter 4
Man, where was that Mike guy? I can smell his hormones from a mile away. He better back off of Raphealia or he's going to pay big time.
"Kujo?" I heard Raphealia talk to me.
"Yes?" I asked her.
"Do you trust this guys?"
Oh man, was I supposed to say. I should say something wise like that. Yea, that would be a good thing to do. I responded.
"I can't trust most of anyone, whatever you like my dear, makes me happy."
"Thanks for trying, Kujo, but it's failing, tell me the honest truth."
"To be perfectly honest, no," I responded flatly.
"Ok, but can you tell me why?"
"Because, my dear, I can see the way that tall one looks at you, the way the sick guy thinks of how you are, the only one I truly like is the crazy one."
"How does the sick guy think on how I am, I like the crazy one, too, and the tall one likes me, is that a crime?"
"Well, no, but he has something else on his mind and it's not your personality, the sick one thinks thoughts about you that you call the 'preps' that used to go to your school, when you used to talk to me in the middle of class. The crazy one is worried about the foal and is trying to name it, let him, he'll come up with something that'll affect the foal's life, I can tell, I haven't seen the foal this happy since..."
"You don't have to say it, Kujo, since Estelle died, I know. We all miss her; it was a shame on what happened to her. If only she didn't go to the mountains, then she would be here now."
"But trust me when I say, be careful of this guys. Don't let them smoke, the Clydesdale is sick of it and you know how he gets."
"Yes, we all know how Zyta can get."
"Take what I've told you to mind, promise me that."
"I promise you, Kujo, anything else I need to know?"
"Yes, Bela has a stone caught in her hoof, and Jumar is worried about the crazy one around the foal. Jumar is also trying to get to be ridden by the sick one; he has grown attached to him. Maybe we all should go to the mountains for camping, that'll calm down everyone and also bring us together." I heard her laugh in my mind.
"What?" I asked her.
"You're still seeing that she-wolf, Tamaska, that lives in the mountains, aren't you, my little sly one?"
"Yes, my dear, I am, I haven't seen her in forever, I need to be with her again."
"Fine, we'll go to the mountains, I haven't been there for a while anyway. I need another dog from there anyway, think Tamaska would want to stay here?"
"Not sure, I'll ask her soon, I have to go find Rain, no telling what that pup is up to now." I mean meaning Rain Falling From the Stars.
"Ok, Kujo, I'm trusting you."
We lost connection after our conversation. My dear Tamaska, living with me here on my little farm. I trotted away happily from my place to see the crazy human and the foal playing together. My, he looks happy, if only Estelle hadn't gone to the mountains, just to be attacked by that large cat. I jumped over the fence and ran up the hill to get a better view of the pasture. I saw everyone, Raphealia and the tall human and the sick one near Jumar, the tall quarter horse. I could feel the happiness of Jumar in my soul. Bela was being taken care of by Raphealia and the tall human was watching carefully. Maybe I was wrong about this human.... nah. I trotted toward Raphealia and she smiled towards me as I nuzzled up next to her.
I remembered Kujo and my recent conversation, let Tre name the foal, ok, I'll have to keep that in mind. Maybe we should go camping, it would be a good idea, Jumar hasn't had exercise in a little bit and Bela (my shorter quarter horse,) gets bored very easily. "Hey Mike?" I asked him.
"Hmmm?" he moaned.
"Maybe we should go camping in the mountains," I asked him. Kujo looked up at Mike with pitiful eyes. Mike chuckled and rubbed Kujo's ears just the way Kujo liked it. Kujo whined when Mike stopped and Mike shook his head so Kujo went away.
"I wonder who thought of that," Mike said.
I chuckled and said, "Kujo has a little she-wolf girlfriend of his in the mountains, he misses her, and she to him, I often talk to her when Kujo is being crabby."
"Little Kujo has a girlfriend, that's cute," he said. I laughed and saw Jumar bend down low enough so Billie could mount up bareback and Jumar trotted smoothly away with Billie.
Mike gave me a confused look and said, "I think Billie has a gift of his own."
"Yes, but it's not like ours, hun, it's a different kind of gift." Tre ran up to us with the foal following him like a puppy. "May I name him?" Tre' asked me. I knew what he meant and what Kujo said earlier, I nodded and Tre cleared his throat.
"We shall name him Lionheart," he said deeply. Mike's eyes looked wide on the seriousness of Tre's message. I gasped and Mike and Tre looked at me. I hung my head and told them the story about Estelle and Tre looked at me when I told him that she was attacked by a mountain lion and how he just so happened to name the foal Lionheart.
Billie and Jumar came back closer then ever, Billie did have a gift, a different gift, but a gift all the same. The gift of affection and mercy, very rare. Then I remembered of what he thought of me and shook the thoughts out of my head. We made the preparations for going camping in the mountains with all of the horse and dogs, including Lionheart. We packed up the horse's saddlebags and mounted up. Mike and I on Zyta (my Clydesdale) with Mike's arms around my waist. He decided to sit behind the saddle this time, and he was very scared at first but relaxed after a little bit. Jumar with Billie and Bela with Tre, with Lionheart beside Bela the whole time. Constantly nibbling on Tre's foot and Tre laughing the whole time. Kujo smelled something and took off running. I smiled, he had found Tamaska.
"Kujo?" I heard Raphealia talk to me.
