Where I belong, chapter 1
Late night. Silence. Only she was hurriedly walking on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. A tear glittered in her eyes. "I'm nothing. I'm just a big piece of nothing. Why is this happening to me?" she said to herself. She put her hand in her pocket. She took a knife. "Soon it will all be over. All I need is to find a place...Oh, there it is. A little alley. Perfect." She was crashed inside. "No one will miss me anyway. Maybe they won't notice I'm gone. This is it." She lift the knife and close her eyes.
"I wouldn't do this if I were you," she heard a voice behind her back.
"Oh, yeah? Well, what do you know? You have no idea how miserable I am right now. So back off!"
"Belive me, I know...but I won't stop you. Go ahead, kill yourself. If you think that is a resolution to your problems..."
"Who do you think you are to tell me how can I fix my problems? You don't have a clue! You have perfect life, probably good job and great house and you think you can tell me what to do!!! Fuck off! Leave me alone!"
"Okay...May I at least know why are you going to kill yourself? I mean, in case police ask when they find your body?"
"Well, let's see...my boyfriend dumped me when he found out I was pregnant, my mom and my dad don't wanna hear from me anymore, I have no home and, oh, yeah...I'M PREGNANT!!"
"Wow, you're pregnant and you wanna kill yourself? What about your kid?"
"I don't care about it! I don't want it anyway!"
"Okay, okay, calm down..."
"Don't tell me to calm down! I AM GOING TO KILL MYSELF!! So go away, go back to your perfect life and your perfect girlfriend! Can I at least kill myself without somebody bothering me?!"
"Perfect life? Perfect girlfriend? You think you have a problem? I have no job, no girlfriend, no money and I live on my best friend's couch! I was selling joints for 2$! Do you think I never tried to kill myself?! Well, think again!"
"So why didn't you?"
He smiled.
"Do you ever think how easy is to kill yourself and how hard is to live? Maybe things can't be worse, but they can definitely be better, only if you try. Don't give up so easely. I was once like you."
"And what did you do?" she asked. He smiled again.
"Come with me. I'll help you."
"Why do you wanna help me?"
"As I said, I was once like you. Come on now."
He gave her his hand and she took it.
"By the way, I'm Billie."
"I'm Bridget, but you can call me Bridge."
He smiled one more time. There was something in his smile, something that was giving her confidence. That was the first time she was feeling safe. The sun was slowly coming as they were walking on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
"I wouldn't do this if I were you," she heard a voice behind her back.
