Where I belong, chapter 2
"Okay, here we are!"
Billie opened the door.
"This is my friend's apartment. I'll try to convince him to let you stay here for a while. You know, till you settle down."
"Thanks, Billie. Wow!", said Bridge as she was walking in the living room.
"I didn't think it would be... Such a dump! I mean, no offence, but do you really live in this place?"
"Hey! If you ignore all the beer cans and pizza boxes on the floor, it makes a nice place for living! Besides, it has everything I need: a roof and a fridge full of beers!"
Bridge smiled.
"So, where is your little friend?"
"If you are talking about me..."
A tall, thin man entered the room.
"I'm Mike. And you are...?"
"Bridge. I was just..."
"No, let me handle this," Billie interrupted her, grabbing Mike and pulling him in the kitchen.
"Okay, Mike, can you do me a big favour?"
"It depends on what it is," he answered.
"I need you to let Bridge stay here for some time. What do you say?"
"Well, she is kinda hot..."
"Oh, no! Don't even think of that! She's pregnant, for pete's sake! She just needs a home for a while. So is that a yes or no?"
"Okay, she can stay."
"Thanks, man, you're the best. I'll go tell her the good news."
Billie went back in the living room. Mike was still standing in the kitchen when he suddenly heard a hard knock on his kitchen window. There was a man standing on the other side of the window.
"Mike! Damn it! Open the window! NOW!"
"Hey, Tre! What's up with all the yelling?"
"Just... Open... The god damned... Window! "
"Okay, okay.."
Mike opened the window and let Tre go inside.
"You know, people use doors these days!" he said.
"Shut up. I guess Jimmy doesn't like when someone paints his car in pink."
"You've painted Jimmy's car in pink?! Oh, dude... He's gonna kill you!"
"I know. I had to do that. Last month he put a glue all over my doorstep. It took me weeks to clean it off my feet! So now it's payback time!"
"Nice work, man! So how is Jimmy, that lazy old fag?"
"I heard his girlfriend is pregnant! He says he is not the father, but... Knowing him..."
"Poor Jimmy. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost."
They started to laugh.
"So who is the babe in your living room?" Tre asked.
"That's some pregnant girl Billie brought. She's gonna stay here for a while. Come on, lets go."
They went in the living room.
"Bridge, I want you to meet our best friend, Frank Edwin Wright III. "
"Hey, Frank," said Bridget, "Should I call you Frank or Eddie?" she smiled.
"Oh, ha ha, very funny. Just call me Tre and there will be no problems, okay?"
"It's a deal. As long as you call me Bridge. I just wanna thank you for letting me stay here. I'll try not to be pain in the ass while I'm here."
"Hey, I don't mind if you are any kind of pain, especialy in the ass!"
"Tre, please!" Mike said, "Control yourself!"
"Okay, but I have to warn you, Mike likes to sleep naked!"
"I think I will survive," said Bridge.
Night. Bridge was looking through the window. And thinking.
"It is pretty peaceful out here."
"Oh, Mike. I didn't saw you. Yeah, it's peaceful. Too peaceful if you ask me.
So, what's with Billie?"
"What about him?"
"Is he... I mean... Is he really available?"
"You mean, does he have a girlfriend? No, he's single. But I wouldn't think of that if I was you!"
"Why not?"
"Well, he is pretty tricky, if you know what I mean. Besides, why would you want an apple if you have pizza right in front of your nose?"
He smiled.
"Maybe I like apples more than I like pizza."
"Maybe you need some time to figure out that you like pizza more than you like apples?"
"Maybe," she answered. "It's getting late. I'm going to sleep. Night, Mike."
"Night, Bridge. And let me know if you change your mind."
"Don't worry, I will."
She laid down on the couch. Her mind was blocked from all the thoughts.
She was thinking about Billie, Mike, Tre and everything that happened to her that day. "They are my guardian angels. They must be," she said to herself.
Then she fell asleep.
Billie opened the door.
