Is Home Really Where The Heart Is?, chapter 15

Today's Friday! Yay! I still had school today, but I got to torture Syd and Mike about the Saturday morning detention they have acquired from blowing up their cake. Nothing interesting happened in school today except for science with Ms. Palmer. Boy, is she an idiot. She thinks my name is short for Caroline. I mean, how do you get 'Caroline' out of 'Carlie'?! Ok, so you only have to add an 'o' and an 'n', but that's not the point. You want to know what went on in science? Well, you have no choice unless you don't read the next part, so here's what happened:

I walked into class and took my usual seat next to Dillon Cason. He's awesome... and really good at playing guitar, so I've heard. Evan (Remember? From cooking?), well, he sits in front of me. Hey, he plays drums! I just remembered that! Oh, and our desks are really weird, 'cause it's like one desk seats two people, so Dillon and I are together. Then Evan and Josh Reider sit next to each other, and David Smith sits behind Dillon. There's no one sitting behind me. So anyway, now that you know where I sit, I'll continue on with my class. So, after sitting down next to Dillon, I got out a pencil and put my books down. We were having a test today.
"Ok class," Ms. Palmer said. "Once you're finished with your test, you have to do the chapter 4 review on page K55."
"I don't have my book with me? Can I go get it?" Dillon asked.
"No, you can just get it after the test."
"Ok."

When Dillon was almost done with the test, Ms. Palmer asked him for some stupid assignment that he was absent for. He said it was in his book.
"Well, you should go get it then." Ms. Palmer said.
"Do you want me to finish my test first?"
"Are you still taking it?" Me and Dillon couldn't help but laugh at this. Then I leaned over towards him.
"No, you're done you just want to finish." I said sarcastically.
"Yes... " He managed to get out.
"Well, when you're done go and get your book." [i]Oh my god, she's an idiot.

"Caroline, please don't talk during the test." she told me.
"It's Carlie, not 'Caroline'. Just Carlie" I corrected her.
"Sure it is Caroline..." she ignored my protest. oi

When everybody handed in their tests, Ms. Palmer started walking around the room to make sure we were working on our homework. She went over to the air conditioner and started waving her hand over it. Then, she was mumbling to herself.
"I wonder why this is blowing out such cold air?" She asked herself.
"It's an air conditioner you dip shit." Dillon whispered to me. I was about to burst out laughing it one more even remotely funny thing happened... Then it happened. She walked up to the front of the classroom, stopped suddenly, then bent down and picked up a pen.
"Oh look a nice pen on the floor. Is this anyone's nice pen on the floor?" she asked the class.
I raised my hand so I could go to the bathroom, 'cause by now I really had to pee. She ignored me...then the bell rang and I still had to pee.Darn you Palmer!

And that's what happened at school today...I told you it wasn't that interesting. But I did make fun of Mike and Syd about their Saturday morning detention. So anyway, now I'm sitting here alone in my bedroom staring at the walls. My walls are pretty-full, 'cause they're all...purple...and...picture-y. Then the phone rang and I jumped and fell off my bed twitching.
"Stop the ringing!" I shouted to no one, seeing as no one was home. Oh yeah, phone. I reached up onto my desk looking for the phone. Then I realized that I don't have a phone in my room. So quickly I got up and ran to the kitchen to grab that phone.

"Hello?" I answered.
"We're coming for you in five minutes be ready!" The person on the other line replied.
"Syd?"
"No...uhh...Mike!"
"Syd shut-up, I know it's you."
"This is...BILLIE!"
"Syd, you're such an idiot...you're not fooling me you know."
"But it really is Billie."
"Yeah sure it is."
"I'll prove it! Here, listen!" they said then I heard a faint 'Weeee!!!' in the background.
"Sorry Billie."
"That's ok." Billie J said. And it was definitely Billie J.
"Wait, why is Syd at your house?"
"I'm at her house. And I'm watching you. You fell off your bed twitching when I called. Then you continued to the kitchen where you answered the phone." I could almost hear the evil smile on his face. I don't know how...but I could.
"Are you ready yet?" I heard Syd ask in the background.
"Ready for what?"
"We've got a gig in...uhh...I forget where it is, but you're coming. And we gotta pick up Mike, now step on! And stop staring at me!"
"Oh sorry...I'll be ready in a few minutes." I took my eyes away from the window where Billie J was waving at me.
"Good, 'cause you really don't have any choice." And he hung up.

I called my mom quick and told her that I was going to hang out with Billie J and Syd. She said it was fine and to call her if I was home before her. Soon enough, Syd was knocking on my door.
"Carl come!" and she started taking me away. "We have a four hour ride ahead of us!"
"FOUR HOURS?!"
"Yep! It's some where in northern Cali, you get to sit with me and Al in the back for eight whole hours! Won't that be fun?!"
"And what exactly is your definition of 'fun'?" I asked as we got into the van.
"Spending four hours straight in a car with my best-er-est buddy ever... CARL! And those other weird people who are dragging us along with them. HI AL!" she shouted as I opened the door to get in the old beat up orange van.
"Uhh...hi Sydney." he gave a little smile and looked at me with a face as if to say 'Why-me?!' I just shrugged my shoulders and sat down by the door. Quick escape if Syd's to hyped up on anything... Then it happened...
...the van blew up and we all died.
The end!...or is it?! Dun dun dun!

No, not really, 'cause then this would have had no point...not that it does now, but it will...I think...

**3 hours later**
"Tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, telephone pole! Tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, 55 miles per hour!" Yep, that was Syd. She was in the back while we were all in the front. Yes, me, Billie J, Mike, and Al were all squished into the front seat...for obvious reasons. And yet she continued on.
"Tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, I wonder why there are so many trees out here?"
"Geeze, maybe because we're in the woods?" I pointed out.
"Nah." Then she went back to pointing out everything she saw...and I mean everything. We were now on dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. We followed the signs...and so far...they were wrong, and misleading. The stupid signs were misleading and lead us straight to nowhere!

"Signs misleading to nowhere." I said with out thinking. Well, actually I was thinking, just thinking out loud, you know?
"What did you say?" Billie J tried to lean over to look at me.
"I said 'signs misleading to nowhere'. Why?"
"That'd make a cool song...I'll have to remember that."
"Like that'll happen." Mike added.
"Hey can one of you like move over or something?" Al asked, shifting his weight a little.
"Not really...I can barely drive the way it is...plus I almost can't reach the brake." Billie J said.
"So that's why we were running all the stop signs!" Syd said, finally turning the gears in her head. Gears...I wonder if she's a robot...I'll ask later.
"Hey Mike, any chance you can move over some?" Al was now asking him.
"Not really..." Mike's voice was muffled by the window which was basically covering his whole face.
"There's plenty of room back here!" I heard Syd yell. "Fine then, I'll go back to pointing out the obvious! Tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, dog on top of a doghouse, tree, tree, tree, tree..."
Everyone groaned when she began again.
"Wait, did you say a dog was on top of a dog house?" I asked.
"Yep, and he was still tied up to it...poor dog house, being chained to a dog." she replied sadly.
"What do you think he'll do? Like, commit doggy suicide?" I laughed.
"Yeah probably, anyway...tree, tree, tree, tree, tree..." she continued on.

"Hey, Mike's closest to the door, let's just push him out!" I said and leaned over to attempt to open the door. But before I could get there, he pushed the lock down. Darn you Mike...keeping us squished and whatnot.
"Not today Carlie, not today..." Mike shook his head at me.
"Tree, tree, house, tree, tree, tree, tree, house with no roof, tree, tree, tree..."
"No roof?! Damn it!" Billie J yelled, then U-turned right in the middle of the road.
"Ahhh!" Syd yelled then was heard crashing into the drums and guitar.
"Wait! BLUE!" Billie J slammed on the brakes, forcing us all to come close to having our heads permanently part of the dash board. Except for Syd, she was tangled up in the drums. Billie J, who was now practically laying on the floor, scrambled to find the door, then opened it and fell out. I saw him running around to the back of the van in the mirror. He threw open the doors and snatched his guitar from under Syd's foot.
"Oh Blue, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to have Sydney crush you. Will you ever forgive me?" he said cradling his guitar in his hands.
"Ow... why are the drums always the ones to attack me...why won't they let the bass come after me for once?!" Syd complained as she climbed up front.
"Syd no! Bad Syd! Back! Back!" I yelled at her.
"But I feel lonely." She said, crawling to the back.
"I know!" Al piped up. "Mike can sit with you on the way back!"
"NO!"

"OK!" I'm sure you can figure out who said what. Once Billie J was finished comforting Blue, (a little creepy if you ask me) he got up front, kicked me and Al to the back, and sat Blue between him and Mike. Billie J started up the van and drove up the driveway to the house. They sent me and Syd out to see if the door was open. We got out and went up to the front door. Syd walked up to the door and said it was locked. So we went back to the rest of them.

"It's locked. And I don't see anyone home." I said.
"Well, just break through the window. Syd knows how to do that." Mike stated.
"But what if an alarm goes off?!"
"Syd, there's no roof, why would they have an alarm on the window?" I hit her in the head.
"Well, you never know." We walked to the back of the house, just me and Syd, (lazy bums), and found a window that was already slightly open. Syd pushed open the window a little more, just enough for her to squeeze through, and started putting her upper body through the hole. She was doing just fine until the window closed slightly and caught her in it.

"Wait here, I'll go get Mike."
"Oh yes, because I have so many places I can go while I'm stuck in the window of a house with no roof!" I heard her muffled response. I ignored her and walked to the van to get Mike. He's strong, he can help.
"Mike, we need your help."
"Wait where's Sydney?" he asked.
"That's kind of the problem...she got stuck...in the window..."
"Oh, ok I'll come." he followed me up to the house and walked around the back to the window in which Syd was currently occupying. I looked at the front door and saw it wasn't fully closed. I walked up to it and pushed on it. Guess what?...It was open...that figures. I walked through the door and over to the room where Syd was stuck. I ended up in the kitchen.

"How'd you get in there?!" she looked at me oddly.
"The door was open the whole time you idiot."
"It wasn't for me!"
"Sure it wasn't." I walked over to the window and saw Mike struggling to get it open. It ends up that when it slide down, the lock was hit...she locked herself in a window. Remind me again why I'm here? I unlocked the window, sending Mike flying backwards from the window suddenly moving and Syd sent out the window onto Mike.
"Thanks Mike!"
"Ow...Get off of me!" and he pushed her into the leaves laying on the ground. This will be a night to remember...oh boy.
