An Angel's Voice, chapter 17
"BILLIE JOE! YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS!" Adrienne shouted at her husband. Billie winced.
"But Adie, I love her so much! And she needs a home! Come on, pleeeese?" She shook her head.
"No, Billie. We can't! We don't have time for another child. I'm having trouble with the two boys as it is."
"What do you mean?"
"They never see their dad. And why bother adopting Sara if she's never going to see you?"
"She can come touring with us! And she can help you out with Jakob and Joey. Come on, Adie. I love her and I-"
"I know, honey. I love her too. But...." She dug her head into her hands and sighed. "It's a big decision, Billie. We just-"
"I know, Adrienne. Come on, please? She needs us." She looked into her husband's sad green eyes.
"Alright, Billie Joe. I guess we could give it a shot." He smiled and hugged his wife.
"YES! I LOVE YOU ADRIENNE NESSER! Oh, you won't regret it, Adie. You really won't!" She laughed.
"But first we have to talk to Jakob and Joey. And Sara, too."
"Of course. OH, YES! JAKOB! JOEY! COME HERE PLEASE!"
"I'm gonna have a SISTER!?" Jakob asked, grinning widely. Adrienne laughed.
"If you want. What about you, Joey." She looked at him. He smiled back.
"Yeah, Sara's cool. I like her." Billie smiled.
"It's settled, then. Joey, will you go get her, please?" Joey nodded and disappeared behind the door. He came back with Sara in hand.
"We gotta talk to you, Sara," Joey said.
"About what?" she asked, looking at everyone. Billie's smile widened.
"Well, we were just talking and..."
"And...?"
"How would you like to become a member of our family? Permanently, I mean." She looked at him.
"A real family? Like one that cares for each other and is always there for one another? That kind of family?" Billie laughed.
"To put it simply, yes. What do you say? You want to become Sara Kristine Armstrong?" she smiled.
"OF COURSE I WOULD!" She threw herself into Billie's arms. He hugged her back and kissed the top of her head.
"Good. Go get the phone, please." She squealed and ran to the kitchen. She ran back and threw the phone to Billie. "Hi, Mr. Anderson? Yes, I would like to adopt a certain young lady." He winked at Sara, who smiled back."
"Which one?" Mr. Anderson asked politely.
"Sara O' Connor."
"Ok. But I'll have to talk to her about it. She's not an easy one to get close to..." Billie threw the phone to Sara.
"YES! BILLIE! I PICK BILLIE!" she screamed into the phone. Everyone laughed.
"Alright then. Just come down to the orphanage to sign the papers. Sound good?"
"Sounds great! We'll be there tomorro!" She hung up the phone and hugged Billie.
"Come ON, Billie. If you want to do this today, then let's MOVE!" she said, dragging Billie through the doors of Mr. Anderson's office.
"Ok! I'm coming!" They ran into the office. Mr. Anderson greeted them with a smile.
"Hello, Sara. Mr. Armstrong." They sat down at the desk. "So, you want to adopt Sara, do you?" he asked Billie. He nodded.
"Yes. We all have fallen in love with her and we want her to join our family," he said, smiling down at Sara.
"Alright then. Just sign here and initial here. And she's all yours." Billie signed the papers and shook hands with Mr. Anderson.
"Thank you! Thank you very much!" Mr. Anderson nodded and looked at Sara.
"Alright then. It was nice having you here, Sara. Please, come and visit."
"I will," she said and her and Billie walked out to the car. "So, Billie- I mean Billie Joe?" He smiled.
"Dad. You can call me dad."
