An Angel's Voice, chapter 9
Sara woke up and looked around her. She had Peter in her arms and Tre behind her, his arms wrapped tightly around her. She looked at the floor. There was Billie Joe with 3 empty beer bottles lying around him. He's going to be totally wasted, she thought, laughing. Peter stirred in his sleep. She silently got up and took a shower.
After she got out of the bathroom, she found Tre and Pete on the bed, playing cards.
"WHAT? Fuck no! That's like the 11th time you've beaten me!" Tre shouted, Peter laughing.
Sara giggled. Tre noticed her and turned around.
"Oh, hey. You've got one hell of a card player here." She laughed.
Peter puffed out his chest. "He just can't take it. I'm the king of Go- Fish." Peter said triumphantly.
Sara lifted her eyebrows at Tre.
"He beat you at Go- Fish? You wimp. Here, Pete, let's teach Mr. Cool how to play a real game."
Tre looked both offended and confused. "And what, miss Sara, would that game be?"
She looked at him.
"Poker." Peter finished for her.
Tre's eyes widened. "He knows how to play POKER?"
Peter glared at him. "Yeah, so?"
Tre looked at him. "Not much 5 year olds know how to play poker."
Peter threw his hands in the air. "Ok, buster, first of all, I'm 6 and a half. Second off, I'm one HELL of a poker player. So you better be scared because I'm gonna kick your tooshie."
Sara's eyes widened at Peter.
"PETER! Don't cuss. What would Kevin say?" Peter looked at Sara.
"He wouldn't say anything, he would beat me up."
Sara laughed. "Where are Billie and Mike?"
Tre looked around the room. "I think they went to go get some breakfast."
"Mike, do you know what 6 year olds eat?" Billie asked.
Mike looked at him. "You have kids of your own, you should know what they eat."
Billie looked at Mike. "So do you! My kids are older than six! I don't remember what they ate!"
Mike held his arms up defensively. "Neither do I, man. Let's get him a muffin or something."
Billie sighed. "Fine. Let's get 5 muffins then, make life easier."
Mike nodded in agreement.
They had their hats and sunglasses on so no one would notice them. They went to the check out counter, and they bought their breakfast. They jumped in the car and left for the hotel.
"Pete? Do you have to take a bath or anything?"
Peter nodded. Sara laughed.
"I'll bet you do, man, you stink!" Peter shot her a look.
"Don't look at me that way."
She grabbed a pillow and dug it into Peter's face.
"HEY!" Peter shouted, laughing. He too grabbed a pillow.
"PILLOW FIGHT!" They shouted and charged each other with pillows. Tre was watching television.
"HEY! Be careful in there!"
"Ok! We will! OW, Peter! That hurt. I'm gonna get you!"
Tre heard Peter scream and he giggled. There was a knock on the door. He got up and opened it.
"Claudia. What're you doing here?" He looked at her, she looked back at him.
"I had to come and see you." She heard the screaming in the other room.
"Is someone else here?" She asked, inviting herself in and going towards the bedroom, where Sara and Peter were having their pillow war.
"Claudia! Wait, I want to talk to you!" Tre said, but she opened the door.
She saw Sara and Peter on the bed, whacking each other with pillows. She turned to Tre.
"Who are these people, Tre?" She asked him.
Peter and Sara stopped. They looked at Tre.
"Um... Pete, why don't we go get your bath set up?" Peter nodded and they made their way to the bathroom.
Tre and Claudia went into the living room. Claudia turned to Tre.
"Is that... your family?" Tre shook his head frantically.
"No. Sara's a friend and Peter's her cousin." Claudia sighed with relief.
"Tre, I want you to come back. I still love you."
Tre sat on the couch, not knowing what to say. "Claudia, I-"
She kissed him. He quickly pulled away.
"Claudia! I don't love you anymore!"
She looked at him with hurt eyes.
Sara came in. "Tre? Is everything ok?"
Claudia turned to her, looking cold. "This doesn't concern you. Or your little brat so you stay out of it!"
Tre stopped Claudia before she could say anything else.
"CLAUDIA! That is ENOUGH! You have no right to talk to her like that!" Tre turned red with rage.
Sara was scared. She had never seen Tre so mad. He turned to her, and his expression softened.
"Sara, just go and watch TV, I'll be fine." He kissed her on the cheek and she went into the bedroom silently.
Billie and Mike escaped all of the fans that crowded their hotel room and opened the door. Billie hesitated when he saw Tre and Claudia.
"Where's Sara?" Mike asked. Tre pointed to the bedroom. Billie made his way to the room, followed by Mike.
They saw Sara frantically packing her things.
"Whoa, what're you doing?" Mike asked her. She turned around, startled by their entrance.
"When Peter's done with his bath, we have to go."
Billie looked confused. "Why?"
She looked at him. "Because Tre's got other things to take care of."
Just then Peter got out of the bathroom. He proudly showed off his Green Day t-shirt.
"Hey, guys. Where's breakfast?"
Billie, still looking and talking to Sara, pointed to the kitchen. Peter made his way to the kitchen; he saw Tre and Claudia talking.
They stopped when he entered. Pete went up to Claudia.
"Hi. I'm Peter. What's your name?"
She glared at him. "Get away from me, you little fucker." She was mad.
Peter started crying.
Sara rushed in. "Nice. Very nice." She looked at Claudia coldly, who glared back. She picked up Peter and went back to the bedroom. Tre looked at Claudia.
"Why'd you say that?" Tre looked hurt.
"Well, that slut should control her kid." Tre got really mad.
"You know what Claudia?" She looked at him. "You can fucking leave! I am NOT sitting here and listening to you insult her like that." Claudia looked offended.
"Tre. Come on. Come home. The kids miss you, I miss you."
Tre looked cold. "No, I won't come back to you."
"But Tre, the kids."
"I'LL COME SEE THE FUCKING KIDS WHEN I FUCKING WANT TO!"
Sara could hear him screaming in the other room. Peter cried harder. Sara tried to calm him down. She looked at Billie.
"We're leaving. Now."
Billie tried to stop her. "No, Sara. Don't leave. Tre needs you." She whirled around.
"Billie." She said quietly. "I am not staying here with Peter. Not with her here. Tre can handle it. He's a big boy. I have to go." She opened the door and walked in on Tre's conversation.
She ignored him and went straight for the door. Tre ran after her, followed by Claudia.
"Sara. Where are you going? Don't leave." She looked at Tre.
"I am not putting Peter in danger having her around." She turned and started to leave.
Claudia looked offended.
"Go ahead, Tre. Let her go. That slut's got to learn to control that little fuck." Sara gave Peter to Tre.
Tre comforted him, for Pete was still crying. She turned to Claudia, her eyes filled with rage.
"Listen, I don't know who you are. But I am not letting you talk to my cousin or me like that. You don't deserve Tre. So why waste your time? Just leave." Claudia was ready to punch her, but Tre interrupted.
He handed Pete off to Mike, who had entered the scene with Billie.
"She's right, Claudia. Leave. Now." Tre glared at her. Claudia just stuck up her nose and left. She turned and faced Tre.
"Fine. I'll leave. But don't ever expect to come back. Because I won't let you. I gave you a second chance, Tre. You blew it, not me." And she went out the door.
After she got out of the bathroom, she found Tre and Pete on the bed, playing cards.
"WHAT? Fuck no! That's like the 11th time you've beaten me!" Tre shouted, Peter laughing.
