Fight Club, chapter 1

JOINING THE CLUB

Lani Joster was not an average teenager. Well, she wasn't most of the time. She was an underage drinker and a chain smoker. she was a self-proclaimed punk, a trouble-maker, a rule-breaker. In 3rd grade, she got sent home for spitting at the teacher. While in biology, she fed the lab rat a mix from chemistry and had fun watching it burp and have serious bowel movements. She had to clean up the mess and was suspended for 2 weeks. The next month she got suspended for stabbing a freshman with a mechanical pencil. My defense?

"He touched my butt." His?

"This girl is a nutcase." And Lani's parents? Her father is in prison for abuse, burgulary, and alleged attempted murders. Her mother got a divorce after this. but she's too high or drunk to notice if Lani goes missing for a few weeks. Lani's brother, Antwon, is an identity thief, rolling in major bucks. While growing up, Lani avoided other students so she wouldn't have to explain why she randomly disappeared or her mother's odd apperances. If anyone did ask her, she just shrugged it off or mumbled and excuse. She invested all of her money into Green Day and was saving to but the newest album- Dookie.

So it was perfect that this girl would join a Fight Club, the sort of club where people would smoke and drink, right? Maybe.

"I'm going to the club, Ma." Lani said to her mother before walking out the door. She padded her back jean pocket to make sure she had her money. She pulled her Ziggy stardust sweatshirt down below her butt to make sure the perverts wouldn't glance her way or stare at her too long. She twined her long red hair up into a ponytail and walked down her street in cheap, Target brand black and white tennis shoes. She walked down the street, turned left onto a small alley, and entered a small building that turned out to be the Fight Club. Inside, she found and indie-punk band playing their hearts out, bongs and pillows everywhere, and some drinks randomly placed. She picked up a big jug of beer and took a large mouthful and handed it to some homeless guy. You shared everything at the Fight Club. She noticed someone new at the far end of the bar.

Lani picked up a joint, lit it, and walked over to the man at the bar. Her was wearing a tawny and black hat, dark jeans, and a black t-shirt. The only thing she could see of his face right now was his slight 5 'o clock shadow. Lani sat at the bar and took a sip of the man's beer. He chuckled.

"Are you a regular?" Lani had seen that face before. But being high and tipsy, Lani couldn't place it yet. The man smiled, showing white yet crooked teeth. He turned back to the bar and drank up the rest of his beer. Then the band began to play a cover of Longview by Green Day.

"Oh my god, are you..."
