Vanquish, chapter 1

It was quiet, too quiet, not even the howls of dogs could be heard. An eerie silence that hasn't been heard for 50 years, since the evil power had been vanquished all those years ago. What happened all those years ago became tales, myths, bedtime stories, and only those who were there at the time, those who made it out of that terror alive lived with the shock.

But they had no clue what was going to happen next; the monster that had tortured their souls had returned, more powerful than before, than ever.
It returned in the year 1991.

A girl, about 13 or 14 stood at the edge of the old navy base as if searching for something, or someone. She walked around, smelling the pungent air, full of toxins and waste, still waiting, watching. Her eyes, like a raven's swooped and observed the scenes around her, her ears, delicate and sharp as a hawk's picked up every little sound around her, searching, finding. Finally her eyes set upon a small item of interest, a watch, but not an ordinary watch, one that can control time and space. She picked it up and toyed with it in her hands, small and round, yet powerful enough to change fate. She stuck it in the pocket of her black trench coat and went back searching for her other possessions from her lost childhood.

Days passed and still no sign of what she was looking for. The cold chills of the morning air did not seem to bother her at all, in fact, she embraced them, as if embracing an old friend she had not seen in months.

For days in and days out she stood there, her hands frozen to her sides, her raven black hair dangling from her forehead, brushed slightly by the wind, and mangled by it's power. Her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes glistening, looking for the thing that would change her life forever, a sign that would only be given if he survived the tragic accident all those years ago, if he escaped the madness she had not meant to cause, but did none the less.
