Life Changes, chapter 2

Later that night, I just felt like sitting on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Billie called. "Hey, Chass," he said. That was what he called me when he wanted something really bad. "What do you want?" I said with a smile. I knew what he wanted. "I just wanted to know, umm...," he began," What was wrong with you today." I thought a minute. Should I tell him I'm feeling left out? Or should i bottle it up?

I'll tell him.

"I'm just, sort of, feeling a little left out," I said. "Why?" he asked.
"Well, it's just that you, Mike and Al are hanging out all the time and barely even talk to me anymore."
"Didn't I just ask your opinion today?"
"Well, isn't this the first time you've called me in about three weeks?"
"I don't want a fight."
"Me neither."
"Well then let's stop."
"Fine with me."
"So, what do you want to do, since you're feeling so left out?" he asked. "Well, how about just you and me go to the Gilman this weekend? Dead Kennedys are playing," I suggested.
"I'm there," he said.

Saturday came, but, we decided to walk to the Gilman. Billie walked beside me, looking at his feet, hands in his pockets. "This sounds like a little kid question, but, am I still your best friend?" he asked after a while.
"Of course you are," I said, "I was just feeling left out, is all."
"You shouldn't, though," he said.
"I know."
"Then what's the matter?"
"Ummm..."
"You can tell me."
"Girl problems."
"Wait, wha- Oh! Okay, that's nice."
I smiled. It felt good to joke around with him again. We got to the Gilman and went in. The band had started playing before we had even got there. "They're really good tonight," I said. "They're good every night," he smiled.
Even though we were fifteen, the guys at the Gilman didn't care if we ordered alcohol. And let me tell you, I got sauced that night! Billie stayed sober (remarkable, isn't it?) so that he could walk me home.
"Whoah," I said the next morning when Mike and Billie came over, "what happened last night?"
"You got drunk, jumped on the table, and fell off," Billie said with that evil little smirk of his running across his face.
"So that explains the bump," I said, rubbing the back of my head.
"Wish I could have been there," Mike said, staring down at the floor.
"Sorry, Mike," Billie said. "We just wanted to be alone for a night."
"Hey, I've got nothing against it," Mike said.
"What?"
"You and Chassy together."
"What?!" Billie and I screamed.
Billie went over and started to slap him in the head. I blushed. I loved Billie, just, not like that.
