All by myself., chapter 3
After school-
"Catch!" Mike yelled. Just then, I felt a sharp pain in my lower left leg.
"Oh, sorry An. I meant to hit Billie."
"That's okay. Just, next time, aim for the person 20 feet to my left. Good thing that only Billie was on the football team. Everything seemed back to normal between Mike and I. I heard footsteps behind us. I whipped my head around, and saw a girl 10-feet behind us. I beckoned her forward, and motioned for the others to wait.
"Hey, my name is Anna. Do you go to Pinole Valley?" I asked.
"Yeah, I am new there. My name is Jessica, but please call me Jess."
"Okay Jess. This is Charlie, Billie, and Mike. My brother goes there too, his name is Trè, but he is sick today."
"That's cool. Why is your brother named very?"
"It's a stage name. His last part of it is Cool, so it means Very Cool. He wishes. His real name is Frank Edwin Wright III, but Trè Cool is much better."
"Oh, I get it. What kind of music do you like?"
"The Ramones, the Beatles, the Clash, shit like that."
"Oh, me too."
"Really? That's cool. Where did you live before you moved here?"
"A lot of places. My dad is in the marines, and we move around a lot due to that. But, just before we moved here, I lived in Philly, PA."
"What's it like there?"
"Philly is just... god, I can't even describe it. Downtown is a mess of homeless people, street vendors, pickpockets, and the rush of people hurrying to get where they don't even know they want to go. I lived in the northeast, which isn't special. Just basically houses. West Philly is a whole smorgasbord of people. It also has a lot of boutiques and shit like that. Center City is where the educated masses live. It's the hip place for the college kids to live."
I couldn't help but notice Mike staring at her as we talked. And, for a good reason. Ash-black hair, hazel eyes, and a small nose, very unlike mine. I had the same nose as my brother. Even though I already said yes to Brandon, I really wanted it to be me Mike was staring at. God, why did life have to be such a bitch?
